I was in the market to get my aging furnace replaced. From doing research I settled on getting a heat pump that can also act as an AC unit and would pair well with the solar panels I just had installed. I like to do my research so I contacted several companies in the Bay Area for quotes. I decided to go with FUSE HVAC as they had good reviews and their quote was very competitive. Due to the size of my house I needed a 5 tons system installed. I chose a Daikin unit as I also read good things about it. They installed the latest unit with the R32 refrigerant. Signed the contract but told them I would be traveling in 3 days and they said no problem, they could get the system installed in two days. That was the case, two days installation and tested. They installed an additional air return as my previous one was a little too small. I'm very happy with my choice to go with FUSE so I can vouch for them. The main tech was Alex and he knows his stuff. They also brought their cute FUSE mascot which inspected the system and gave approval. My approximately 10-year-old built-in, large (3 ft x 7 feet tall) side-by-side Kitchenaid Refrigerator had progressively more trouble cooling the freezer compartment and then the refrigerator. The first service I called cleaned condenser coils and pronounced it fixed -- not so! Still trying to get my money back. So I called a new service, Fuse Appliance Repair. Alex (see photo below, per his insistence), easily recognizable as Eastern European from his accent and the all-business, serious demeanor, appeared and, after disassembling the freezer and part of the top, pronounced the fridge in need of possibly all-new innards because of a likely Freon leak. (As an HVAC engineer, I was not surprised). I was initially suspicious of the high labor estimates but later learned about their accuracy. Alex returned the next day with a helper, disassembled the freezer and cooling assembly, spent many hours diagnosing the problem with specialized equipment, and finally diagnosed an oil leak from the compressor, which had fouled all other components. Actually, worse than a Freon leak. They re-assembled the fridge before departing. On the second day, both techs returned and replaced the entire innards of the large fridge. This involved gas flame soldering in our kitchen and, again, about 6-7 hours of labor of two techs into the night. When all was said and done, and they left, it took a few hours of cooling back down, whereupon the fridge worked like new -- I realized only then how wheezy it had become before. The previously accepted bill was significant but small compared to the original price of the fridge a decade ago, let alone today's price. After a few days of the fridge continuing its excellent function, I paid the entire repair balance and moved on with life. Imagine my surprise about a week later when I got an unexpected call from Fuse asking for permission whether Alex could come and inspect the fridge again to confirm that the fridge's health was stable -- I assume Freon pressure was one crucial marker. Wow! I've had many repair services for many appliances and plumbing, many of them good. But this one blew my expectations! I see that they fix all kinds of appliances.
