My platter had: crostini with bruschetta, mystery cheese (I never learned what this was!) that tastes like queso fresco with a pickled beet jawn on top, mini eggplant lasagna, a pizza fritta pocket, grilled cheese, meatballs, and buffalo mozzarella. BF's platter had: caprese tomato/mozzarella combo with seasoned olive oil and side of pesto, meatballs, grilled cheese and a quinoa salad. Both platters were fresh and tasty. Perfect portion for a light lunch and a true taste of the region. Perhaps a tad overpriced since it was a bit touristy here, however, I think I preferred this app sampler to that of La Uascezze and I loved that place, so it was worth it. Plus, it was a great way to kill a few hours and look out at the sea.

The restaurant added what was effectively an "American-style" extra charge, including a bread fee and a cover charge that came to about €15 per person. While a small coperto is common in Italy, this felt excessive and was not clearly communicated upfront. Overall, while the kitchen shows potential, the poor service and unexpected charges make it difficult to recommend. There are many better options in Matera that offer both great food and a more welcoming, transparent experience.

All of the staff are very professional and friendly. Most if not all speak a fair number of languages and several are almost bilingual. The property is stunningly preserved/remodeled from an old winery/warehouse. It sits atop a hill, so there is a 360° view of the entire surrounding area from the top levels of the buildings which are accessible via stairs. We had a small issue with our room and they handled it quickly and were very apologetic about the problem and offered us a bottle of their wine on the house. We had one dinner at their restaurant called Ama and they helped us get reservations in town for a really good restaurant La Cuccagna the other night. The breakfasts were top-notch, no made to order eggs, however they did have the full array of meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs, and other proteins, as well as many of the cereals, fresh fruits, and pastries you can imagine. They bring you coffee to your table. However, the food is all self serve which is really quite nice so you can decide exactly how much and exactly what items you'd like to eat. We did not need to do the winery tour/tasting since we've done those in Italy before and this facility is pretty much a fancy hotel with 18 rooms and banquet spaces. Their actual winery is somewhere else. There are basically two banks of rooms - one to the left as you pull in from the main highway on the north side. Those rooms are converted in what was probably an old storage area. The room we were in was retrofitted to put in a tub and unfortunately, they probably didn't think it through too well when they designed it because the tub is in the floor so you have to bend down to get in it and then the floor gets completely and utterly wet as they don't have hooks or even any furniture other than the heater tubes and a chair on which you can place your towel or robe. When we got into our room, the floor was very wet all around the tub area and unless they retrofit and add some drainage around the side of the tub, I don't think it's ever going to work very well so if you don't like your feet getting wet, make sure you wear the nice slippers they give you because the floor is very slick and slippery as well when you use the tub and there will be water everywhere when you exit the tub. Will review the restaurant separately as it should be since it is open to the public and does not require a hotel stay as the buffet breakfast does.

The "smoked" flank steak with foam Bernaise was excellent. And the dessert was excellent. Fruits with wild strawberry sauce and light meringues. The lamb and greens were not over the top. And the risotto needs some punch. The tomato reduction needed more flavor and the bread crumbs needed more toasting. It WAS a Monday night. And so there might be some room to get better on busier nights.
