This was our 3rd self-guided bike trip (previous years included Czech Republic and Puglia, Italy). The lodging was incredible. Arriving after biking all day to a basket of goods & refreshments was much appreciated. Taking a refreshing dip in the pools was also welcoming. The wine experiences were exceptional, especially the tasting at Ervideira in Èvora. Support from BikeIberia - another person posted a similar comment and we should of listened!! One bike had unsafe lack of braking power. Our group of 8 had two experienced bike mechanics and they were unable to fix this problem. The response from BikeIberia was "Let one of the smaller women ride that bike." Guess that's an option if you want see someone seriously hurt! Bike condition/safety: 2/5 stars - above and also two of the bikes had the chain jumping off the gears into the spokes or off the front gears. The rear chain jumping off locked the back wheel which was dangerous. Obviously the bikes were not thoroughly road tested and tuned to acceptable and safe standards. Fortunately, a group of two finished their BikeIberia tour the day prior, and the two Cannondale's fit the folks with no brakes/no gears. Bike routes: The itinerary was well organized with the average distance of 30 miles/daily was ideal. We enjoyed the castles, churches and cemeteries that greeted us throughout the day. However, we did not feel consistently safe on the roads; many roads ridden with minimal shoulders. Also, did not appreciate the routing at the end of day, through towns, past ALL 'sights' and finally to the lodging. This often involved narrow cobblestone roads shared with cars, trucks and walkers.

Great bikes, very helpful and friendly staff. Had a beautiful December afternoon bike ride to Belem.read more

Before heading to Portugal I booked an e-bike tour exploring the 7 hills of Lisbon. Having found…read morethe tour through Airbnb "experiences", I sent a note to one I'd be traveling with, asking if he was interested. His reply pretty much said exactly what I was thinking; namely, e-bikes are fun and a 2.5 hour e-bike tour for under $30US per person seemed like a good deal. The starting point was a bike shop near the port, where bikes and gear were assigned, we met our guide (Nuno), and off we went. A few minutes later we stopped at a plaza to talk about what interested us most. We'd been on a walking tour days before and weren't interested in learning much more history. Our guide understood the assignment. Following Nuno as he navigated the busy streets of Lisbon was easy and we did so safely. We made it to each of the hills, snapped some photos, and discussed briefly the history of what we were seeing. The amount of discussion was right-sized. Unlike that earlier walking tour this didn't feel like a history lesson; It felt like fun. And when it started pouring during the final 30 minutes of our ride (rain ponchos provided) it moved into crazy-fun territory. I don't know what all "Rent a fun" offers or whether all of their offerings are booked via Airbnb "experiences" but if you find something they offer that sounds fun and interesting I'm here to say that it probably is.

Cycling-rentals did everything - planned our tour, reserved our hotels, delivered and retrieved our bikes - we really didn't have to do anything except ride and enjoy ourselves. They provided an itinerary that was accessible on our mobile phones with details for each day, including sights of interest, suggested lunch stops, dinner suggestions and some advice on the day's terrain and ride. The actual route map on RideGPS was, hands-down, the very best GPS program we have ever used. The hotels were all good, but a couple stood out - The Octant in Santiago do Cacem and the Odeceixe Verde in Odeceixe. We tried many of the recommendations for lunch and dinner and were not disappointed. In 2023, we rented our e-bikes from Cycling-Rentals.com for the Camino Portuguese - the service and support were so good, that we thought we'd try them for our complete trip in southern Portugal. I highly recommend them - they are thorough, responsive and are always quick to provide assistance if something happens along the way.

This review is long overdue, but now that emotions have settled, I feel I have a more clear mind to…read morereview. We went on a city day bike tour of Sintra. Overall 1/5 stars. -1 star: Tour guide, Ralph, started out the tour by saying he doesn't usually do a tour of the city, but does mountain biking tours. That's fine, we rolled with it. Well, turns out he really doesn't know anything. Ex: Ralph took us to a rock structure and said, "this is a famous spot, but I have no clue why." Ok..then why did you bring us here? He could've shown us other places that he does know about. We would've been more interested in seeing something "not famous" and learning something. It didn't just happen with this rock structure, but everywhere else he took us he had little information to give. So much for a "bike tour". Was more like a bike ride. -2 stars: I crashed my bike while riding in the street. Instead of being concerned for my wellbeing, Ralph was more worried about the bike. Looking it over to make sure nothing was damaged and not looking at me. When he saw that the bike seat had been torn, he exaggerated how he failed to have us sign a waiver and also how the company didn't offer us insurance before the ride. He kept stating over and over "I will pay for the damages because it's all my fault we didn't have you sign the insurance waiver. All of the repair money will come straight from my pocket, you don't have to worry about it. I will pay out of my own pocket." Like decent humans, I owned up to the damage that I created and paid for the torn seat. Had we known about or at least been offered the insurance before the ride, we definitely would have purchased it because it was only 15 euros. Who wouldn't pass that up? We wish we would have known about the insurance before hand because Ralph quoted the seat repair would be 28 euros extra, (which we paid). On the way out of the shop, we saw a sign that gave a breakdown on each items cost. The sign said bike seat replacement was 22 euros without insurance and 11 euros with insurance. So not only did Ralph guilt us into paying for a seat replacement without insurance, he totally scammed us into paying more than we needed to! -1 star: Ralph was nice enough to take pictures of us on the tour; however, every. single. picture. had to have the company bike in the picture with the logo being visible. It didn't matter if you were on a hill next to a ledge, he wanted you to carry your bike up so that it could be in the frame. Ralph telling us to hurry up and move our bikes so that he could take the picture and we could move on, did not set the tone for easy-going tour. I get that you want publicity for your company but it isn't enjoyable to be rushed, let alone bossed around. It should've been a red flag for me to book with Ralph and this company because when we were in the process of booking, Ralph didn't come off as being flexible. The WeChat connection was cutting out and I asked if we could communicate over email. Ralph strongly stated how he didn't want to because it would take more time and wanted to get it booked. It was both frustrating to not be able to hear everything he was saying and that he wasn't willing to make accommodations for a possible customer. After booking, Ralph emphasized how we shouldn't be late. Well...guess what. He was 10 mins late. So save yourself a booking and don't consider this company.
