If you're looking for a place to play tag, talk loudly to yourself, or if you like to take naps in really loud places, the Fullerton Public Library is for you! SHORT STORY I GIVE UP!!! It's too LOUD in there! The wifi/internet has only worked 1 of 3 times I've needed it. Plenty of strange people lurking and sleeping! (maybe I shouldn't worry about the "lurkers" since the FPD is right next door) LONG STORY I think the remodel looks great and all the new furniture is wonderful. I give it the stars for the beautiful re-model. However, I've been a bit creeped by all the cracked-out fellas camped out at the entrance in the mornings and cruising the stacks. The amount of people "napping" and lurking around is unsettling. One day, while trying to get an Internet connection, a fella across from me, who was also waiting for and Internet connection and getting pretty frustrated, made a comment about how he's afraid of contracting body lice, scabies, fleas as he nodded his head towards one of the "napping" fellas nearby. I gave this place 8 chances. That's about 12 hours of my life. Only 12 hours? Well, on 4 occasions, I walked in and walked right out because of the noise level. WHAT THE HECK!?! Can y'all KEEP IT DOWN!?! You're in a library!!! 3 other times, the Internet connection was out or kept going in and out! Last night was my final attempt at studying at this library. There is not one QUIET place in there! PLEASE, designate a QUIET SPACE in the library for people who would like to study in peace. People talk LOUDLY to themselves, talk LOUDLY on their cell phones, talk/SCREAM to others across the room, chase each other, throw books and backpacks, along with other countless LOUD distractions Is it the Fullerton Public RECREATION AREA or is it a Library!?! Such a shame since the library is beautiful and so close to home. I guess I'll keep driving over 20 miles to the QUIET Newport Beach Public Library where the patrons are civilized and the staff is helpful and pleasant. Have fun TRYING to study! read more

You will find me here at least 3 times a week. I love this library. I LOVE this library. The Fullerton Public Library is fantastic about getting new books in and putting them in circulation. I can always find brand new books on the New York Times Bestseller list in circulation. They also have a great DVD selection and it's a great deal as you can borrow them for a week for $1 and non-fiction films are free of charge. They bring in new releases all the time and you can rent them for $1 a day. There's free wi-fi access and the library is always quiet and cool, which can be such a blessing in the summer. As a graduate student, I need a lot of time to study but like most people, I can never do it at home and driving almost an hour to campus simply to go study is out of the question. So my local library solves that problem and I'm definitely put it to good use. *Every few months the library puts on a used book sale and you can get all kinds of great (sometimes brand new) books for as cheap as 50 cents. They'll start advertising around town when the time is near and there's always tons of people because it's a popular local event. read more

"A library is the delivery room for the birth of ideas, a place where history comes to life." I would have rated this place a 4.5 if I could have. I love this library. They have many newer books in circulation including a section specifically for new additions. They also have an extensive, current DVD collection and a children's section stocked with all the classics. I've found every book I've wanted here, and so much more. The library is easy to navigate and well organized --unlike my college days of being lost among the antiquated, dusty collections cursing Dewey and his Decimal System . I love the modernized computer kiosk search system and the website where you can manage and recheck out books. This isn't your grandma's library. Steve Jobs would have been proud of the user-friendly simplicity. The system also shows if some books are located at the other branch (Hunt) only 5-10ish minutes away. The only reason I didn't rate a five is due to a couple cantankerous (if not stereotypical) librarians I've encountered there who were rude and a bit condescending. When I went for the first time, I didn't exactly understand the self-checkout system and was confronted by an angry librarian when one of my books wasn't scanned right and beeped at the door. Don't worry, I'm not trying to steal your Dostoevsky. (Note: All the other librarians at this branch have been great and very helpful.) read more

A coworker referred me to this place, glad I came. I called the library on a Saturday to inquire of their hours of operation for passport submission and was recommended to come in early Sunday morning at least 45 minutes to an hour before opening. It's a first come first serve basis and can only accept so many applications for that day. They get super busy over the weekend. Their website makes reference to the days and hours of operation. The process was easy and quick. All staff members were friendly and professional. It was my first time obtaining my passport, and all my questions were answered. I plan on going back for my kids passports. read more

This library is really a homeless encampment. They turn the library into their personal squatting area for eating, cell phone charging station, a place for them to socialize, bath in the restrooms, taking an obscene amount of toilet paper for their personal use and this one lady cordoned-off her personal corner in the library. The library should do a better job managing the homeless population. First rule to enforce: no eating in the library! Second rule: you can't claim a whole table or corner for your personal encampment. One seat per patron only! read more

I come here for their book sale. It's something worthy of the calendar on the refrigerator. I'm serious. There are soo many books, cds, dvds, and audio books in the basement, and they just keep coming! I was able to score a PERFECT Harry Potter 5 audiobook (on CD) for a measly $5. My boyfriend spotted it and couldn't believe his eyes...he stepped over a few kids to grab it and hide it away. The Sunday of the book sale is a great day to go...it's one of those "fit all the books you can into this bag and we'll sell it to you for a flat rate" kind of deals. Wonderful! The best part about this library is their DVD collection. It has all the genres you can think of, drama, romance, comedy, documentary, tv shows etc, but they also have an amazing selection of foreign films as well as classic films! I can even find artsy foreign films from the New Wave movement, Expressionism, Dogme 95, and Neorealist movies. So if you're a film buff, this is the library for you. Best part? They don't charge you for DVDs unless you're renting out one that has recently been released. And that charge is a dollar a day. But for all the other films and tv shows you can rent them for up to a week for no charge. Keep them over a week and you're charged a dollar a day. Books are alright, I've searched up books here and found copies of books that haven't been republished in years. And some of them are in really good condition. But I've rented a few books that have had marker, and even boogers in them. Gross and disrespectful. It's just kinda weird when you walk in at times and in between the reserve shelf and the DVD section there are homeless people sleeping on the couches and chairs, with their bags all over the place. I used to come here as a child and I would find the library a great place of solace; however, after many years of renovation, staffing changes, policy, and the like it has become a place I avoid at all cost. I'd rather study at home or on campus but coming here to study is not an option any longer for me. Now if you like to eat while reading, and are ok with hearing people chew and talk well then this is not a bad place. If you need a study room to yourself don't come here because the study rooms are specifically for groups. Not a horrible place but I won't be coming back here. Once too many times have they disappointed and I am no longer a willing patron. read more

It's a great library, with big tables, free wifi, big windows. But... the place is getting filled with homeless/hoboes. They walk funny and smell really funny. Also eating in the back corners of the library. The worse is they look sick too. So much coughing, that made me leave after a couple of hours because I didn't want to get sick. Perhaps, just avoid sitting on certain parts of the library. Overall, it's a nice place, but enforcing some noise levels and hygiene would make the place even better. read more

Beautiful library and a great meeting place for homeless individuals to enjoy their reading. Poor air circulation inside ..very strong body odor with a touch of urine smell coming from the carpet. Barnes & Noble or Starbucks are the hangout for students ,while Fullerton Library is the hangout for homeless.. Overall I think it's the responsibility of the library to maintain a clean and odor free facility for the public and not blame the homeless individuals. read more

Fullerton Public Library now has a solar panel shade structure in the parking lot, making it LEED-certified. This makes me so giddy. When did Fullerton - my hometown and zip code for 17 years - become so environmentally mindful and thus cool?! What with Green Bliss, the vegan and gluten-free cafe in Villa Del Sol and Purple Yoga across the block, Fullerton is on its way to becoming the next Portland it feels. The interior of the library has been completely renovated with new desks, carpets, signage, and warm lighting. I was also able to check out Joan Didion's complete anthology, of which Barnes & Noble in Amerige Heights had none. Huge kudos, FPL, for making this jaded Fullertonian appreciate and proud of her city. read more

I never would have thought that you could give a library ratings on Yelp. But since I can, I give this one 5 stars!!!! It's been SOOOOOO long since I've been to a library. And I'm fully aware of all the other great, beautiful libraries out there (i.e. Cerritos Library with their crazy huge saltwater fish tank), but I like this place a lot! It's so clean and organized! My friend rekindled my relationship with the library when he introduced me to the kindle! Hahaha, that's kind of funny. "reKINDLE," get it?? Anyhow, he showed me that you can borrow books in your Kindle if you have a Fullerton Library Card! How cool is that?? Other than the coolness of that, which I'm sure some other libraries have too, I really like that the checkout area is clean and the auto-checkout is really easy/cool. I also really like their sets of manga upstairs in the teenager area. I haven't had too much trouble with the noise level, and I really just appreciate that they have sectioned the teenagers in their own area. I thought that was really thoughtful. Other than that, the computers were easy to use, and books were easy to find. I liked this place!! The only downer is that certain types of DVDs (I think all "fictional" DVDs) cost a dollar or so to borrow. That kind of sucks, but it's understandable. read more

Been coming here since i was in elementary school and now proud to bring my kids. Its nice to see it organized and has up to date check out machines. Lovely to see the same librarians who i remember as a kid and dedicated and so nice. Great book selections for kids. 4 stars because upstairs adult section has bad odor i believe its from the homeless folks who nap there which i havent seen but seen in other reviews here and not surprised because it does smell. this has its ups and downs.... customer service?? NO -- the asian guy that works at the front desk -- holy crap -- he definitely needs some help with customer service... he hates kids -- its always condescending.. doesn't communicate. When i go in -- im NEVER going up to the front again if he is there - i will stay in the kid area. The good parts are the size of the library -- its HUGE and has a lot of quiet areas to go and focus on what you are there for... the kids area is is the main area that we spend. The night time story time and crafts are ALWAYS a hit with my kids.... They are great because they engage the kids and know that they are KIDS so they will be making noise and they dont get frustrated with them. I will be going here to get passports for my family so will update on that experience when i do... read more

Studied in the teen room upstairs last Sunday afternoon. 4 stars for the FMA and Cowboy Bepop posters ;] and it was quieter in there, that's why I went in. I love this library! I request books online and am notified when they are available to pick up. Easy self-checkout. When someone took a book I'd requested, the staff was so helpful, even calling me twice to make sure I was back on the request list. I'm moving and will really miss this library. I enjoy this library because of its proximity to my house. The employees are helpful, but similarly to other reviews, there are some strange people who are allowed inside this establishment. While I have not experienced the loudness of children to the extent others have, I have been shocked to see homeless men and woman talking loudly in random sections of the library both before and after the renovation. You have to live in Fullerton to be a member of this library. Why the hell are they letting half dressed homeless men into the library if they aren't doing anything constructive and are only talking to other homless in the sci-fi section?! I dunno. I have also seen homeless sleeping in cars in their parking lot, taking up spaces that are very limited. All in all, I enjoy the library, but wish they would do something about the vagrants. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. The building is nice, but the staff is rude and their policies are ridiculous. I get having A fine for an overdue book, but $5 PER book?!? Do you know how many books children check out? A LOT. I have two kids and they both want AT LEAST 5 books each. I know I should have been on top of it but our family came down with the flu for a week and then we had to go out of town for Christmas for 2 weeks. During that time our books became overdue. I realized while we were away that we forgot to return them but didn't have phone lines and no cell service in the mountains because of a storm. We got back and returned them then 5 days later got a bill for a library fine. No one answers the phones there and you leave a message with your phone number and no one calls you back. I call for three days in a row and finally someone answers the phone. It's $5 fine PER book. So if you have two kids and they each want 5 books that's $50 JUST for a library fine. I get that I should've been on top of it. But life happened, holidays happened, and there is NO grace from the Fullerton library. Books were due 11/12 and returned 1/3 read more

Like many libraries, I love the Fullerton Public Library (FPL) and I grew up coming here dozens of times for studies and to find a good read in general. It's not really that big of a place, but it most certainly has a very nice collection of books, old and new (mostly from the 70s-90s), and has resources for many things you could utilize for your needs, like a printing/copying center, a large collection of encyclopedias for different subjects, from Britannica to even Martial Arts. Best of all, since they've renovated this place, there's even a bookstore selling old and donated books; I was very impressed when I managed to pick up a used copy of the Game of Thrones for only two quarters and a microbiology textbook for $3. Very nice. I've never been in the cafe before, but I can assume that it's mostly there for the convenience and that I cannot argue. Unfortunately, this being a small library, there are plenty of downsides to this place. Every once in a while, some kids show up and decide that it's funny to have a shouting contest and disturb everyone in the library. It would appear the "silence is golden" rule isn't being enforced either because the noise level is just overwhelming on the weekends. Of course, the easy remedy for silence is to find the "back areas" to sit in, but that's also another issue. When you finally find a place to sit, rest, read or work, one of the local homeless patrons are having a picnic and are stinking up the place with their meals. This isn't a one time thing only, because I recall I came here several times recently and the same group of homeless men showed up on each visit carrying different package of foods and talking about their "daily routine". It annoys me that the library's security guard didn't do much, because this wasn't just disgusting, it was insulting that these people were using the library as an excuse to dine and use it as a hangout spot. Finally, the biggest downer of the library is the bathrooms. I don't know what's going on here, but ever since I came here for the first time about 10 years ago, the library had some severe issues in stopping the horrible odor saturated in the walls. Even with renovations, the smells are atrocious and nauseating, and I frequently have to wait until I get back home. Not to mention, the library's bathrooms are targets for vandalism; the conference bathrooms had their mirrors stolen recently and no one had noticed it. It's a shame that this library has some problems, but truth be told, I really enjoy coming back here to read up the selection of books available; FPL is especially handy when it comes to studying and looking up what it is I need to know. read more

I love Fullerton Public library. I have no issues with the homeless being their. They're people too and deserve just as much as respect any of you high rollers. My god, the parking here is always a challenge. There is never parking whenever I come. Never. I love the self check out service. There are several stations so there's never a line to check out. The dvd rentals are awesome. Older movies can be checked out for a week. Rent a couple classics for the weekend. Open a bottle of wine and relax! read more

Great place--super underrated resource! They have greatly improved their services and the overall layout of the place. There is a lot to do: classes, activities, used-book store, cafe, movies (rentals and screenings)--you name it. I perused the children's section with my little guys, and they were enthralled by the offerings. There were so many books! Moreover, they had puzzles, blocks, and toys for smaller kids to play with as their older siblings browsed, which I really appreciated. I will definitely come here again and often as I feel like I've only seen the tip of the iceberg. My only suggestion: Have a map or "at-a-glance" overview of services when people walk in. That way, they can find what they need quickly. Otherwise, they can wander around, which isn't all that bad, actually. :) read more

This is a wonderful library. They remodeled it and it looks great! They have plenty of books to choose from, and they are all organized nicely. I can spend hours just browsing for an interesting book. They have free Wifi, and have computer areas which is nice, or you could just use your laptop at any of their seating or even the floor if you choose to. The library is kept very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. I am here at least 2 or 3 times a week. read more

I work with adults who have disabilities and we started coming here a few months ago since our regular library is now closed on Fridays... ...this library is pretty big! Seems like a lot of space. Most of the staff at the info desk are great. I've never gotten their names, but the young, slim, bald guy and the girl with the colorful hair are definitely the nicest! Restrooms are clean. I guess there is an issue with the homeless population being at the library but we always get a study room so we dont run into that issue. New dvd's to check out cost $1 and you only get 1 day. And replacement library cards cost $2...even if you lost one 5 years ago. They will charge you $2. read more

This place is awesome. The shelves are clean, spacious and organized. The staff is friendly and helpful. Everything is computerized to save you time. Renewals are easy. I also like that they separated the children section to a different part of the library is keep the noises down. They also have a passport department, which is very convenient compared to the post office. read more

I started taking my daughter to there toddler reading group about a month ago. And we love it! So friendly, clean, fun and free!!!

Fairly nice library with lots of easy parking and places to sit but the safety of the library is a bit questionable. There quite a few people sleeping outside the library and although there was a security guard as you walk in, you don't really feel too safe. The bathroom were also in rough shape. Perhaps a bit more cleaning would help the situation. read more

I love the Fullerton library. The entire staff is so helpful and friendly. I went to turn in my passport application here and it was the easiest process. They review your paperwork at the front to make sure you have everything and then call you back to submit when it's your turn. It probably took around 20 minutes. I can not recommend enough! read more

This is a decent library located off commonwealth. They have a nice children's area with activities, a variety of books, and places for the kids to interact and play. The library staff are helpful and friendly. It's not a huge library but its clean and helpful. read more

Stinkin bums singing Enrique with headset and microphone plugged to their laptop in the library?!? (i kid you not - i think he was recording himself) =__= WHO DOES THAT?! PEOPLE, THIS IS A LIBRARY! After complaints, after complaints. Emails after emails, after emails..... Yes. SO! Who successfully got the "quiet zone"? Moi! ;) ME. You're welcome. I will take an ice latte as a token of appreciation ;) But importantly, please respect the library. Most people just want to get work done. This library needs better people to run it. There system says books are available and checked in and when I go look it's nowhere to be found. Look over and please double check to see what books you actually have available. Also it would be great if you can add more printing areas. I hate having to wait ten minutes for it to be my turn to print! Rather go the distance and drive to my school to print. Cheaper and quicker! Oh yea almost forgot all the elderly who work at the desks are loud as hell!! Do they not understand that people come here to study and work!?? Keep it quiet! read more

Its a nice modern library. I wish i knew about it sooner. It has a very good selection of books you can't find at other libraries. Parking can be tough sometimes if there is something going on at city hall. Theres a computer lab, cafe, photocopier and study rooms. You can suggest books for purchase. Don't know any other libraries that offer this feature. Its a good place to go get books but just an okay place to study. I wouldn't stay here for long study marathons, there's some weird people here sometimes. The best place to study is between the copy center and study rooms read more

Firstly, the library itself is old. Making practically every portion of the library grimy and under maintained. The carpets are all stained. The desks are very old. You have the need to constantly wash your hands, and or, sanitize your hands whenever you touch a piece of furniture. Second, the library is underwhelming in terms of accommodations with today's current technology. To elaborate, everyone has cellular devices and laptops, which means, there must be an excess amount of places for outlets. But, there simply is not. And when it is open, someone will rush to that spot to plug there equipment into. Trust, it happens all the time. On top of that, the library places dainty phone outlets for the general public to charge their cellphones. This feature, is quite cheap. Makes the school look cheap too. Third, tables. Tables are a first come first serve possession. The library's overall architecture limits the tables for students to sit and study. You must rush to a table in order to get that spot for yourself. Fourth, the floors. There are about 5 floors (including the basement). The third floor is designated to be the location for complete silence and study. And the rest of the library consists of mere "hangout" spots with tables to talk however loud you want. In actuality, there is only one floor where a typical library is conducted. Overall, very disappointing. The only benefit would be the students and librarians who work there. They are generally nice and are 100% willing to help you. read more

The place is really nice. I'm new to Fullerton I just moved from Los Angeles and I think this library looks nice BUT the service at the check out desk was HORRIBLE. I wanted to get a library card and the guy thought he was smarter than me and he threw the pen at me (literally) just because I forgot to sign at the end of the application. read more

This library is VERY noisy. Staff and the City Council do nothing (like post "Quiet Please" signs) to curtail loud talking, children shouting, etc. It is NOT a peaceful experience, especially the Children's Library.
