A Hobart CBD Institution, and one of the few fully independent bookstores still left. All the books are new; they don't have used books, so that sets them apart from somewhere like Cracked And Spineless up the road. The kids selection of books is great- one of the best and widest kids section anywhere. They have a wide range of books, but your choices in that range isn't very DEEP, and that is what makes me only give it 3 stars. They stock just the surface level of most of the categories. There's always a lot of staff around, but they aren't proactive in helping you and can be quite dismissive at times.
There's a little coffee shop there, coffee is just okay. You wouldn't go here just to get a coffee, and (understandably) they frown on sitting there all day with a book you haven't paid for, so it does feel more like an afterthought having a cafe in a bookstore.
Still an order of magnitude better than Dymocks, but not my ideal bookstore. read more
