The Plantation Independence Day Parade dates back to the 1950s, and attending it has been our…read morefamily tradition for more than 20 years. The City of Plantation has continued this event since the nation's Bicentennial, and this year's celebration was especially meaningful as it honored the 250th anniversary of the United States. The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. at Broward Boulevard and NW 48th Avenue, traveling west to 69th Avenue before wrapping around to NW 4th Street and ending at Plantation City Hall. Our favorite place to watch is in front of City Hall, where there are restrooms and refreshments available for purchase from the Plantation Historical Society. This year's parade featured more than 70 entries, including elected officials, first responders, local businesses, and civic organizations. Many participants tossed candy and other treats to children along the route. I may have even caught a piece or two myself! A special shout-out to the Plantation Fire Department for handing out ice pops, which were especially appreciated in the 90-plus-degree heat. This year's Grand Marshal was Howard Finkelstein of WSVN's Help Me Howard, where he provides free legal advice and helps everyday people solve consumer problems. I love that this parade has maintained its small town charm over the years. It's always a wonderful way to kick off our Fourth of July celebrations before heading to the evening fireworks at Plantation Central Park.

Entry to the event is free and there is free parking in the city garage. There were nine food trucks, food tents, inflatable bounce houses, photo ops, the Blarney Brew Yard, kids crafts, community tents, shopping, and costume and drinking contests. If I could make a suggestion it would be to include Irish food next year because there wasn't any. Throughout the night there was live music on the main stage. I especially enjoyed the girls from the Irish dancing school. The headlining band was the Byrne Brothers from Dongal Ireland. The event drew a large crowd and it was a fun way to spend a Friday night with an early St. Patrick's Day celebration.

Irish music and contests: costume, how many coins in the bucket and a beer drinking game. There wasn't any Irish food so I just bought Puerto Rican food which they had a new truck from the older one I have seen I purchased baccalito, empanadas ,acapuria, and relleno de papa, The acapuria was a bit greasy but good. A leprechaun bust sat next to the stage and 2 real life ones for the festivities. A nice evening to enjoy the festivities. Parking in garage was free and ample I parked on the top level and came after the start time of 5:30 and still enough parking . Light Up the Holidays is a free, family friendly annual event held to celebrate the holidays by the…read moreCity of Sunrise at the Sunrise Amphitheater. It runs from 5 to 9 PM. Parking is available for free in the lot and in the city garage. The event included a concert, complimentary hot chocolate, photos with Santa, tree lighting at 7 PM, a snow play area, kids activities, and food trucks. The well kept large lawn area is perfect for parking a chair and enjoying the festivities. There were also holiday lights set up to add to the decorations. My favorite part of the event was a nighttime drone show by Luna Lite at 9:00 PM. It featured the story of the Polar Express and included many images of Christmas. I had so much fun at this event filled with holiday spirit. I would love to come back again next year. Great job Sunrise,

I have always wanted to visit the Enchanted Place of North Miami and tonight I finally did. They are open every night through December from 7 to 10 PM. Christmas light displays come and go but this one has been going strong for 36 years since it was founded in 1988 by Ken Digenova. The experience is free but they do collect donations for charity. You can drive through the decorated street in your car and turn around in the dead end of the cul-de-sac and head back out the street or walk through as I did. Note that the traffic gets quite backed up and you could be waiting awhile if you decide to drive. About a block away I found an abandoned house for sale and was able to park on the swale. This allowed me to get in and out quickly. This light display is simply magical. The real draw is all of the lights hanging overhead in the trees transporting you to a happy place. Thank you to the Enchanted Place of North Miami for bringing the community together year after year. Stop by if you can and share the joy with your family.

Again, the lights were nice enough to walk for. The drive, not so much as the lights are hard to see as inching behind the car ahead of you. I highly recommend parking and walking. It's much more enjoyable!

The brightly colored oversized chess table by the front door added a warm welcoming. FYI, this is not an inexpensive knockoff art installation that you may find in some tourist rich environments. Majority of the colorful sculptures like Pinocchio were priced around $3,000, but a unique Superman painting was hovering at $6,300.

There were food trucks, vendors that gave out doggy treats and toys, play areas, and costume contests. We spent about two and a half hours there and ended up coming home with a whole bag filled with free items. I would definitely go again.

I have heard of this not to be missed Christmas experience for years. Someone I work with told me I…read morehad to go so I headed over s soon as I got out on a Monday night. I arrived at 7 when they were supposed to be starting and the crowds were already in the hundreds. Since I hadn't attended this event I thought I could just park at the church. I wasted a lot of time driving through the church parking lot before being directed through a neighborhood to Forest Hills Elementary. When I finally arrived the lot was full and they told me to go back to the church! I decided to just give it a try at the school and a Christmas miracle occurred because there was a spot. The moral of the story is arrive early and go straight to the school. After securing a parking spot it was a hike back to the church to wait in a line over an hour long. I overheard many people say it was like being at Disney. After the divine intervention with the parking I decided I was meant to go so I waited. When you finally got close to the church they had some kids singing and snacks and drinks for sale for $1. Further down Roman soldiers harassed us admonishing to stay in line! The event started with encountering the wise men. They looked fantastic in their costumes and happily posed with everyone for pictures. Next up were some shepherds who told us they heard something was going down in Bethlehem tonight. We finally arrived at the gates to the city guarded by the Roman soldiers. All males were asked to write their names for the census and then we were let into the city. I was amazed, They had two areas of highly detailed stalls selling all of the things you would have found at that time period. It wasn't just a religious pageant, it was a history lesson too. Leather, baskets, food, medicine, papyrus, and many other goods were being created and sold. All of the merchants interacted with the guests teaching and conversing. You could try different things too like the bread and olive oil. The final portion of the event was the inn where of course there was no room and finally a beautiful manager with a real baby and animals. The church has been putting on this event for 25 years and it obviously takes an army of dedicated volunteers. They offer this event completely free. Visiting was one of the best things I did this Christmas. I can easily see why it's so popular. I will definitely be back next year with a better parking plan.

The tour of the city begins in the census room and continues to the temple area where a rabbi explains how the Old Testament foretold of the arrival of the Messiah. Next, enter the town to find the sights, sounds, and smells of a city busy with travelers, shopkeepers, Roman soldiers, beggars, and live animals. The innkeeper will direct you to the stable where baby Jesus lays in a manger. More than 400 volunteers create Bethlehem Revisited each year.
