This is our go-to place for a quick bite and fresh juice when we're in downtown. 1 extra star for…read morethe great memories.
Kibelandia is one of the many, many 'lanchonetes' in this part of town. My first visit here was way back in 2002 (first time to BH). In early 2016 it was fully renovated and now has a fresh look.
The only things you can buy (as in most lanchonetes) are fresh juices and salgados / snacks. Essentially, healthy drinks and unhealthy eats, but both are sooo delicious!
It's relatively spacious inside with a few tables and chairs (it can get very busy occasionally) and service is quick. First you need to decide what you want and then you pay a cashier. You take the receipt to the other staff where you have to repeat your order (it's not included on the receipt; it only has the total price paid).
Juices are easy. They're listed on the walls but you can request any combination you want. Best money you'll spend all day.
Salgados are a bit more difficult to order as there are no descriptions. Coixinha de Frango and Pastel de Quesjio (cheese) are among the classics (and favorites). The pastels are cheap and super fresh. I also like the Mandioca com Carne. There are (red) squeeze bottles with pimenta if you want to add spice.
Stools are a bit too close to the bar for comfort (as typical in Brazil, unfortunately). Cashiers are not too friendly. The rest of the people are lovely. They're often busy but enjoy a quick chat.
