The downside is it's much more expensive than finding remedial help yourself privately; often if you can find a uni student willing to tutor, it would be about half the price of attending Fruition Tuition, but then again, whatever works is the best solution and it's great to have this option in the Manly area.

Your classmates for the most part are going to be middle aged, wealthy women with too much time on their hands. When they're asked why they're learning french, they'll give some such answer "Oh, well, Richard and I visit France quite frequently, and we simply thought it time to be able to communicate with the local people". Fair enough. They've got every program you could think of to entice you into learning french. There's the standard beginners, intermediate and advanced classes, as well as accelerated 'intensive' classes, as well as classes for kids. They also offer private tuition. I know for a fact there are classes strictly for pronunciation, just so you can perfect making 'oo' 'err' 'airr' sounds- which is, quite frankly, necessary to transform otherwise wierd sounds into actual, intelligible french words. Alliance Francaise in Brisbane is actually part of a 'federation' which represent France all over the world. Not only do they teach the french language, but they also introduce you into a whole world of french delights, inviting you to events like french wine tasting, and french cinema screenings. It is expensive, but the lessons and programs are well structured. You will take away homework to do before your next class, just like ordinary school. Enrolling at Alliance Francaise is probably one of the best ways to learn french outside of just buying a plane ticket to France and diving in there.

Take out a yearly membership for $53 and there are heaps of great things you can enjoy, without having to spend any more money. If you've already got a basic-intermediate level of French, you can go along to the conversation group on Wednesday evenings, an informal gathering of people of all ages wishing to practice speaking. Usually there's a volunteer Frenchie who comes along to facilitate the group. The membership also grants you access to the library, French cineclub (the last Friday of every month at 5.30pm), French bookclub, French choir and more. You also get 15% off tickets at the French Film Festival, held every March. On top of all this, they run competitions in their monthly newsletters in which you can win all sorts of prizes. So far, I've won a double pass to a French film and a French DVD, so I definitely feel like I'm getting my money's worth from my membership! Alliance Francaise is a great way to stay in touch with the French world whilst socialising and meeting new people too.

They are disorganised and discouraging. I have struggled with so much during my time studying and have asked for a helping hand in numerous occasions and they tell me to drop out and say I won't succeed. Also don't attend if you are pregnant because they will continue to pressure you to do things that you have been instructed are not safe during pregnancy (by your own dr). I have basically been instructed that I have to terminate in order to graduate otherwise it is best I drop out of my studies if I wish to be a mother.

I had heard about Griffith University before I even moved to Australia, I decided to look into it…read morewhen I wanted to further my studies. I took a 1 year course at Griffith in the Business school. The first thing was to attend to a meet and greet evening which was quite nice because you got to meet all the lecturers and students that you were going to be doing the course with. It also felt like that gave the whole experience a more personal touch. It was also a chance to be shown around the enormous campus with its many computer labs and library that has just been renovated. I had a great year over all at Griffith and found that the courses were fun and the lecturers did an amazing job and everything was quite up to date with current affairs and trends and I felt like it has set me up with the skills that I set out to acquire from the business school. I was also pleased to find out that Griffith University was rated in the top 10 of Australian research institutes. It wasn't hard to learn where everything was on the campus and I was glad to find the bar that had some great student nights. I would recommend Griffith University to anyone who wants to further their education. There are open nights during the year that will better explain all the courses that are provided and at what campus they will be held. Its also a chance for people to check out the place for themselves and meet people who went there and are teaching there.

I performed a puppet show for the Middle Park State School Vacation Care class. The teachers in…read morecharge were very good at behavioural management, ensuring all the students were respectful of my show and equipment, and making sure they were all seated nicely behind the little crowd barrier line I created at the front of the stage. The students were very well behaved and had a lot of laughs and fun during the puppet show. At the end of the show, I demonstrated how all the puppets worked. Many of the kids raised their hands and asked lots of intelligent questions. The teachers then went through some reflection with the students to discuss what interesting things they learnt during the presentation. My visit to Middle Park State School was a very positive experience. I hope to return someday to perform more puppet shows during the school terms. - Brett Hansen (Larrikin Puppets)

French had long been on the ol' "Must learn this one day" list and back in the Summer of a few…read moreyears ago, with an injury forcing me to reassess life (deep, I know), I launched into classes with Katrina and Lingua Franca. During this time their classes were conducted in cafes and bookstores, however now they've opened a studio where they host classes. And sure, the classes have developed further but the ethos remains the same: affordable language lessons in an environment comfortable enough to learn. Katrina's warmth, encouragement and generous nature make her the perfect teacher. I only ever felt encouraged and supported during lessons. Her ability to continue helping you perfect pronunciation or revisit a concept that you wanted to clarify made it a safe environment to learn in. Since I last studied with Katrina, their classes have grown and you can now take up to 6-levels of French studies dependent on your current French skills. If it's something you've been thinking about, I'd highly recommend taking the plunge and learning the beauty of the French language under the guidance of Katrina. Merci!

Ah Stuartholme, with your stained glass window and your old conventy ways... was my school for 3…read moreyears here in Brisbane. Although the architecture of the school has since been updated and modernised, the old school remains true to the Sacred Heart motto. Being an all girl Catholic day and boarding school has its perks, for parents looking for prospective places to enrol your child for years 8-12 this is a good one, the prices are a bit steep a term, in 2012 you're looking at about $3000 a term and just over $4000 to have your child board as well, the food, the values and the school life is one that has built many memories for me both good and bad. If you're getting married, they have a chapel with a massive stained glass window, many old Stuartholme girls always head that way to be married as it's huge and beautiful and looks awesome in the wedding photos. I would definetely send my daughter here if we can afford it in the future!
