I wasn't sure what to expect but was really surprised at the setup. I was expecting a traditional restaurant but it turned out to be more like a fast-food ordering but with various places to sit and eat (booths, a more private area, and a typical eatery). I didn't know they also had an ice cream section but then again I was there for food :) Walking in I was taken by their ad for a "Montreal Burger" and ordered that. Turned out to be somewhat of a Smoked Meat Burger but wow the flavour was amazing! There are a number of other items on their menu that strike my fancy so I'll definitely have to head back and try them out some time :)

First they put a layer of curds on the bottom of the bowl (no where else did this from chain places to supposed old school restaurants) then the fresh hot fries then more curds (A LOT) on that then the gravy. The cheese curds squeaked when you ate them. It's set up like a Subway sandwich place, cafeteria tray style so nothing special inside but who cares with poutine this good? They people inside mostly spoke French but also could switch to English and were friendly. They had lots of tables and booths inside and at least 8 tables with umbrellas outside. This is just off the main route heading back to US border for us going home to CT. Will absolutely be our last Canadian stop now before crossing the border. They also have a cheese and gourmet shop attached and they were selling fresh corn in a kiosk in the parking lot (which you can't take back across unfortunately because it looked great). And everyone purchased these cream filled smallish donuts so we probably missed a trick but we were so over full of sweets and pastries from our Montréal/Quebec vacation we just couldn't get any. If it's not made right there on the spot it's a disgrace wise words from my best friend. A quick Yelp search for a lunch place "nearby" brought us here. Its just 5 minutes off the highway but not something you'd just stumble upon; it's tucked away by itself on a quiet rural byway. It's got an old-fashioned "roadhouse" feel to it: a little "divey" but not in a bad way, complete with a full bar and a tiny makeshift music stage. It was early afternoon and busy but not crowded, all locals. I guess they don't get too many tourists here; everybody took notice of us as we entered but quickly returned to their business. The diners seemed to be a mix of blue-collar workers on lunch break, families with kids, and friends out for lunch, drinks, and conversation. They don't speak much English here so I got to practice my rudimentary French, and found out just how rudimentary it really is. And don't expect English menus either. Fortunately I know enough to order some food: poutine, cheeseburger, onion soup, coke. I scored 3 out of 4: While I thought I was asking for French onion soup what I actually ordered was "French Onions"; what we call onion rings back home! Oh well, mistakes like this make for an interesting time! Too bad the onion rings were pretty mediocre: heavy greasy batter and not very hot. The truth: I've only had poutine once before and I wasn't impressed then. But it's so much the rage up here in Québec that I wanted to be better informed and maybe eventually even a fan. The third essential ingredient of poutine, cheese curds, was also present of course and made it less boring. To be honest, we were a little nervous as it isn't much to look at on the outside - divy to be sure. We were glad however that we went inside. The staff were super friendly and it was bustling with locals. We ordered Jo-Dre pizza and a smoked meat poutine. It was awesome. The best poutine we've had this trip and we've been to some of the highly rated places in Montreal and Quebec City this trip. Don't forget to butter you crusts! Oh and a 12' pizza came in four slices which confused us a little...but it was all good going down. Great stop - don't miss it!
