Froggys (as the Danes write it, sans apostrophe) is located smack dab in the middle of the Gågade shopping district, and difficult to miss as you come down any of the main streets that intersect in front of it. I've always seen it but not until this year did I get a chance to actually go inside.
It was a rainy, December day in Odense and my wife and I decided to pop in to Froggys to warm up and get out of the hustle and bustle of holiday shoppers outside on the streets. First impressions? The place is bigger on the inside than it looks, as it actually stretches back quite a way from the street. There decor is what you'd expect for an upscale bar, at least in Denmark -lots of subtle but modern styling, with clean lines, dark wood furniture, hardwood floor and unpretentious lighting, as well as cozy corners and booths. You definitely feel at home when you step inside, very inviting but neutral at the same time.
Since we didn't have too much time, we decided to go for a quick drink and opted for the hot chocolate, which Froggys serves in a glass. It's an interesting take, especially when it comes to handling a warm glass without a handle of any kind, but the presentation and excellent flavor definitely make up for the awkwardness. You even get a Belgian chocolate to go with it, which was of course delicious.
If you happen to be out in Gågade on a shopping trip and looking for an escape from the masses to experience some authentic Danish hygge, Froggys might just be the place for you. I can only vouch for the hot chocolate at this point, but the atmosphere was fantastic and I'll definitely be going back again. read more
