I can't imagine any of the staff here are getting paid big bucks, but any time I've been in here, they've never been anything less than pleasant and always happy to go the extra mile to help - including once calling around other stores in the area to see if they had in stock what I was looking for. In terms of stock, they have a good range for a local liquor shop; if you need a $300 bottle of wine, it's probably not the place to go but for everything else it's a goer.

Dark wood veneers, sumptuous leather couches. All you need is a cigar in one hand and a tumbler of whiskey in your other and you could be the perfect picture of the country squire. They stock all imported and hard to find bottles of whiskey here, many of them aged to perfection. And if whiskey ain't your thing, you can find a mixture of other alcoholic drops in their Spirit Store. I found a 21 year old bottle of Appleton rum here which was so out of my price range to be laughable, but I coveted it anyway. For an interactive experience they do whiskey tastings that cater to whiskey newbies to self proclaimed connoisseurs. I'm planning on attending the next friend bring a friend event!

First and foremost, the quality of the staff, at each of the locations is most positive. Though this location is where I purchase the overwhelming bulk of my wines, and have actually stored many cases of wine here for years at no additional charge, I have visited many of the area stores, and have consistently found the staff to be knowledgeable, friendly and helpful at all locations. Obviously there is a positive ethos inculcated from the top management and it carries throughout. The selection of wines, obviously heavy in New Zealand wines, but also from every part of the world attests to their thoroughness in offering their customer what they desire. In addition, they offer an extensive selection of spirits, most notably, whiskeys, also from all over. Prices are most fair, and usually undercut what the wineries offer for sale at their cellar door by 5-10%. There are always specials, based by promotional buys, etc. Gift wrapping is available and graciously promoted at no additional charge. Credit charge usage does not incur any additional fee. This location has recently installed a full-service café to satisfy those caffeine and pastry cravings. Parking is ample, both on their lot and on the street a few steps from their front door.

The shop assistant seemed knowledgeable enough, and managed to find a suitable bottle of plonk for mummy dearest, from the reputable wine region of ze Hawkes Bay. There was quite a collection there, from the pricier French Wines all the way through to the cheaper homegrown stuff. They even courier all their product nationwide for a measly two bucks fifty. Last week I ran into the wine barrel on my way out. I was in a hurry as usual, very eager to get to…read moremy friends house and perch outside in the sun with a nice glass of wine. I tend to get a little bit stressed in shops like this, where the walls are lined ceiling to floor with bottles of wine. I don't have the time to sift through and read labels and get a good feel of the selection. But I also don't want to end up with a disappointing bottle! To make matters even more difficult I'm stingy as can be and don't want to be parting with an excess amount of money for something, which will be gone in the amount of time it takes to exchange some gossip. Because of all this, I thought it was best to just ask at the counter. "I'd like a good sav for under $20 please". It was as easy as that. In a few minutes I'd been shown some options and there was a clear winner. I bought the bottle and was surprised to receive a free plastic cup with it. (Not quite the classy thing I was going to be sipping out of that night... but perfect for a picnic for sure). I thoroughly enjoyed my bottle and was very happy with the quick, easy service I got here. Will be sure to return!
