I went to Friendship BBQ back when it was located on Union St and had a very good experience there. When they moved and opened this location, I was expecting the same quality. It seems that I was mistaken. I ordered different types of meat skewers like the special lamb, chicken gizzard, chicken skin, beef, as well as the sets they offered. I found majority of the skewers that I ordered were extremely salty. On top of that, the chicken skin skewers were not crispy and just felt like you were chewing on fat drippings so I wasn't able finish them. The special lamb skewers on the other hand were thankfully perfectly seasoned. I also ordered the spicy crawfish and found that it was not very fresh. There was a weird aftertaste that just kept appearing from most of the crawfish I tasted. Thankfully, the garlic eggplant that I ordered and tasted was on point. So, I would say that it is a solid choice if you come here. It's a decent place to go to if you're looking to hang out with your friends, eat skewers, and drink but don't expect something super high quality as the skewers seem to be like a game of roulette. read more

I came here towards midnight to satisfy late night munchies and found the food to be alright. It's sort of a tight space with not too many tables. It was actually pretty busy when I went too. The food came out pretty quick and there's a button on the side of the table to notify the staff whenever you need anything. My friends and I were attracted by the 30 skewers for $22 that had a variety of chicken, beef, and lamb but only after we received it, did we realize that they were small skewers. each skewer only had like 2 thin slices of whatever meat it was. We were craving some thick, juicy meat on the skewers. We also tried the beef noodle soup and the wonton soup. The beef noodle soup had a very beefy flavor and pretty good. The wonton soup came with lots of seaweed and cilantro. It was more on a lighter, cleaner broth side. The wontons were just decent. Overall, I would give them a 3.5. The food was not bad and I'm sure their regular skewers might be good but I don't recommend the 30 small skewers. I was a little disappointed considering how my first time here it was quite memorable. We were so hungry, we ate before snapping pictures.... The skewers were very very tiny. We got a 30 (maybe it was 40) skewer special with a mix of lamb and beef, I want to say there were 2 shavings of meat on each skewer. 30/40 skewers sounds like a lot to share with 5 people... we were wrong... Bottomline for the skewers is that it isn't worth it. They also had other roast items. We got the enoki mushrooms and also the eggplant. Environment Very small restaurant for being so busy. Definitely not big party friendly. For a skewer BBQ place... friendships... don't go too big.... We got there around 630 and waited over an hour to get inside. There isn't a big waiting area either, we waited outside on the sidewalk... This review is long overdue. I first visited Friendship BBQ when they were in a small stall on the Union St. I liked it and brought my friends over by then. It then moved a larger basement on the 39th street right below Liuyishou hotpot. This BBQ place reminds me of the night market feel back in China, very fun and lively and great for group gathering either for dinner or late night snack. Now they have expanded the menu with a great selections of grilled skewers, Sichuan style skewers in broth, noodle dishes, and fish dishes. This definitely made a positive impact because it's hard to eat many skewers at once with the same seasoning. My favorites are bit traditional, like the beef and lamb skewers and grilled eggplant. They are always juicy, flavorful and consistent. I like the new tofu fish as well, very tender, flavorful and yet a completely different flavor profile from the skewers. Flushing isn't short of great BBQ places from food carts to sit down restaurants, but this one ranks pretty high from me thanks to their quality meats and consistency. read more

Came here with a bunch of friends on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Restaurant was pretty empty then so we were seated immediately. We got a variety of skewers: Lamb, Enoki Mushrooms, Taiwanese Sausage, Grilled Wagyu Beef, Pork Belly, AA Choy, and Chives. While I was a fan of the AA Choy and Chives (as the seasoning was on point though very oily), the others really fell flat for me. The Pork Belly was quite tough and for all the dishes, I thought they were just really under-seasoned. The skewers were also quite tiny compared to the ones I've had at Fat Ni and were priced the same as Fat Ni's, so it wasn't worth in my opinion. Overall, I wouldn't come here for some nicely priced, delicious skewers. You will find better spots at either Fat Ni's or Xinjiang. read more

This was a pretty good experience - the skewers were really the highlight. I felt the menu lacks enough other things to consider this a meal though. That said, I liked the fish tofu, chicken, lamb and all the types of beef skewers a lot. They were all well spiced and flavorful. The crawfish fried rice wasn't that good but we ate all of it to balance out all the protein. The bubble teas were all good - not very sugary but quite refreshing. I've been to the union st location a few times this is my first time coming back since their relocation. The new store is much more spacious and modern, but they've changed the menu a bit which is a little disappointing. To start off, I always get the raw beef, Mongolian beef and lamb those are my to go. I know some people might be skeptical about raw beef but it's simply delicious the way they season it and then dip it into the black vinegar. Also side note I have never gotten sick from it if people were wondering. All the meats are bbqed very well everything was so juicy and I love their cumin seasoning. I wish they had rice cakes and skewered eggplants like other bbq places other than that overall friendship is my go to stick place in queens. To be honest, we were pretty stuffed at the moment but decide to giving it a try and have some small bits. And I am so glad that we did! Great for those days when you feel like eating a lot of meat. Grilled assorted items on a stick. Most are spicy and covered in cumin and red pepper flakes. I liked their Mongolian lamb skewers, very fatty and meaty. It's very heavy for such small pieces of meat because you will end up consuming more protein than you'll realize. It's small and there's only one bathroom I saw which was unisex. Everything is a bit oily because the foods are all oily and people use their hands to hold the skewers which have grease and oil from the grill. They do have plastic gloves available if you ask. The space gets packed and very busy at later hours so be prepared to wait. The place inside is narrow until you get to the back, which opens up once you get further in. One thing did bother me, which was the fact that the beer wasn't really cold. It was chilled to the touch but it didn't feel like it was in the fridge for very long. The bottle wasn't even cold enough to have condensation build up. Still I enjoyed the meal very much, but a word of warning to stay away from their chives which was covered in red pepper flakes...maybe that's the whole point these guys are going for, but it wasn't really something I liked.
