Oscar's Grill - I found the Santa Fe Salad was not fantastic.

WTF Sudbury!! what a big disappointment…read more We went out for a nice dinner and saw this very appealing place called Oscar's and we thought we'd try it. we were directed towards a table and were served by Anthony who was very nice. He assisted us with a good choice of wine. We ordered our foods and got our soup in due time. It was good. Then we waited and waited and waited. We inquired about the main course and 1.5 hours later they had not started on "fish and chips and Caesar salad"?? People that arrive after us had food served. We cancelled the main course and the manager was not very accommodating nor sympathetic towards our situation. We paid and left. I cannot recommend the food as we never got it, but the service needs adjustment. Good luck... businesses like this don't last very long. it's too bad as Sudbury really needs to up their eatery establishment.

But we had just eaten next door. So here we are ready to people watch and enjoy the music. But no. The 'windows ' were closed. The ambiance was subdued. We inquired about the difference and was given a snarky response about the heat and humidity and that maybe later they would open things up. Food*****The El Diablo.... (Dang it!) EL FUEGO.. got mixed reviews at our table. Two of our party ordered it, and one inhaled it, while the other was disappointed that 'jalapeño bacon' wasn't the same as 'jalapeño AND bacon'. I made the same mistake while reading the menu. My husband ordered the ribs, and couldn't stop going on about how good the slaw was. So much more than cabbage, if you have never tried it you should give it a go. I had the Santa Fe salad. With descriptions like 'roasted ' and 'grilled ' I expected a warm dish with the flavor profiles of SoCal-Tex-Mex. I was surprised when I was served a ice cold chilled dish that consisted mostly of quinoa tossed in a very sweet vinaigrette. (****edit: looks like they changed the name and description of this menu item. Eliminating any confusion) No worries. My lunch the next day was left over Santa Fe with added corn, chickpeas, more cilantro and fresh lemon juice. (There are no leftovers). If you go there at the right time the windows are wide open and prime for fresh air and people watching.

Free breakfast was a joke Food in warmer but the staff waited twenty minutes to serve a dining room full of people till they had more food. Dinner at the wedding was supposed to be prime rib Instead got shoe leather and barely cooked vegetables.very pretty place I would not recommend worst service and watch out for the crappy owner going through vehicles If I could give zero stars I would

We waited to checkin at the office/bar/ restaurant for 10-15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. There were 2 women working making drinks. They saw us and never said a word. A simple "i'll be with you in a minute" would have gone a long way. We weee never given any rules, directions, check out times. The next time we went for breakfast. Although there was food in the serving trays, they made us wait for at least 15 minutes before we could go up for food. By the time we were able to eat, the place was packed. Saturday night we attended a wedding reception. Instead of using a tray, servers brought out 2 plates at a time. With almost 100 people there, our food was cold. The prime rib was very grizzly and tough. Even after requesting steak knives, it could barely be cut. The biggest disappointment and instant turnoff was the owner. When he was questioned about a situation, he became very loud, was pointing his finger in a guests face and was using profanity. His attitude, demeanor, and lack of professionalism was a total disgrace and unbelievable! Never have i experienced something like this!

The flavours all complimented each other really well and while it seemed like the lentils and chickpeas would be a weird combination with pasta and rice, it all came together really well. Service was really good, and they gave some bread and garlic butter while we waited for our meals. I do have to warn that the prices are a bit steep - my bf and I were tempted to pass on getting dinner from here when seeing the prices but decided to stay and try it out anyways. He ordered the lobster ravioli and it was around 36 dollars and was only 3-4 pieces of ravioli which was definitely not enough for an entree, but this is common I find with lobster/seafood dishes so I am still going to give 4 stars because my meal was a large portion and was very delicious.

Their menu is long…read moreenough that everyone will find something they like, but not overly ambitious (which would be a recipe for disaster in a small town like this). I especially recommend their breakfast specials, one of the best values on the Island, and their excellent homemade burgers with a real grilled flavour and interesting topping choices (about $10). Fresh whitefish, a Georgian Bay classic, is always available. They also serve local beer from the Manitoulin Brewery (try it!) as well as a more than respectable variety of other beverages. Remember, whenever you read a review of a restaurant on Manitouin Island, how far away it is--at least 90 minutes from the nearest big city. Local prices for all businesses and restaurant menu listings reflect this challenge. Service is friendly and efficient, although the kitchen is sometimes challenged when the place is full. If you're in a hurry, you may need to head to The Port for fish and chips. If you want to sit on the deck in the middle of summer, arrive early.
