Saw all the five star reviews and had to check out this place! We came here at 1pm on a Sunday and were surprised to see so many pastries left still. We ordered an almond croissant & azuki croissant. Unfortunately, they weren't anything special -- the croissants weren't as light and fluffy as I had hoped. I also got an iced latte which was pretty watered down. read more

The customer service here is bad - especially the lady with the pixie hair cut. She told me to move away from the pastry display when I was trying to see what pastries they had. I wasn't even peering over it, just eyeing it from a distance too. She gives racist vibes to be honest. They chat up the white customers and talk to them for a long time, but if you're not white they barely speak to you... Also the espresso is really watered down and all I tasted was milk. My goodness - really delicious high-quality pastries! I lived upstairs of their SLU location however only ever tried plain croissant, muffins & quiche on rotation. I recently bought a box of 6 pastries (choc croissant, pear almond danish, peach danish, blueberry lemon curd danish, kale & artichoke turnover, savory pithivier) and every single one was amazing. This coffee shop/bakery looks more attractive from the outside than from the inside. Those metal bistro tables and chairs outside caught my attention and the cappuccino was not that bad. The pastry rum, though, was overcooked and dry. I should have gotten some of those French size macarons (they have in different flavors and I really like they are not huge like in other places, macarons are supposed to be charming, not only sweet and tasty!). The place is clean and neat, but the coffee shop atmosphere is lost with so many young Asian students just having more virtual than real conversations. Wow! So glad I tried this cafe after the South Lake Union Instagram posted about their matcha. Their matcha oat milk latte really is amazing. I crave it now. They also have great breakfast tacos which I had been missing since moving from Texas. Happy to get my morning fixes in at Fresh Flours. But to top it off! I tried their red bean croissant and oh my goodness! Took me right back to my travels to Taiwan but with a croissant twist. Loved it. read more

I love this little cafe and I'm so lucky to have it just across the street from my office! It's one of my favorites in the SLU area. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I'm a big fan of their specialty chai teas. Recently I tried the pumpkin cardamom and golden milk chais and loved them both! They will set you back about $5 each but they don't cost more than any other coffee shops in the area and they are the best around. Friendly and quick service, even during the busy morning rush. Great place to chat with a friend. I have yet to try their pastries but they always look incredible! read more

I really like this place. Super friendly service, chai with a little bite to it, and an array of pastries to choose from, some a little unusual for the States (like red bean croissants). Fresh Flours came highly recommended by a friend doing her summer lab rotation at the nearby UW Medicine research campus. Cute, quiet, and convenient, this is a great coffee shop to visit if you are in the SLU neighborhood. I ordered a 12oz iced americano (I'm always trying to avoid cold brew, which I find unpleasantly sour), and it was so refreshing on this hot day! Not to mention reasonably priced at only $3.25. I also got to try their vegan cookie - so rich and satisfying, you'd never know it didn't have butter in it! It tasted like a coconut pie baked into a giant firm and chewy cookie. Walking around SUL, you can find coffee shops around every corner. Visiting Seattle for a couple of days, and being a sucker for breakfast, I looked up the best bakeries in Seattle and stumbled upon Fresh Flours. It was very accessible to my hotel and I was excited to try it. We got the kale and artichoke turnover, a cherry Apple galette, a cardamom chai and flat white coffee. The coffee was good, but everything else was just ok. The turnover was supposed to be warm, but the inside was cold. The galette was flaky and crispy, but the cinnamon was very overpowering. I was very disappointed in the chai. It was just a cup of hot milk with cardamom powder and sugar. There was no color in it, and I understand that it's probably a premixed drink, but it was a letdown. Pros: cute coffee shop, good pastry crust, good coffee Maybe stick with coffee and not the teas, and you will be happier than I was Now to work my way down the list and hope for the best! read more

I've been coming to this place almost every time I stay in Seattle and it never disappoints, except when it runs out of pastry in the afternoon sometimes. My favorites are the red bean-green tea muffin and the almond croissant. This store has both indoor and outdoor seating so it is sure to satisfy everyone's preference. It is located next to 8th Republican apartment and around the corner from Glazer's camera store. If you are coming here, consider parking at the 5 minute loading spot right in front of the store, which is usually available. Otherwise, you may have to pay for metered parking. read more

Ever since I got to Seattle I have been meaning to pay this place a visit. But here we are now 5 months from then finally giving it a go. Dropped by to get an HC and try some goodies. There is only one guy who tends to the orders and whips them up so it can take a while before your turn comes up. I visited at around 245 pm and it wasn't overly crowded but there were a good amount of people dropping by and taking their goodies to go. I wasn't very sure on what to get. My eyes wandered over to the Macarons but tiny bite sizes Macarons at $1.90 didn't seem worth it. I enquired about the Basque cake to the server and he strongly suggested I go for it which I did.The HC 8 oz is $2.25 while the Basque cake is $3.90. . The Basque cake was a true delight. I can see myself dropping by here just to grab this goodie. The flaky pastry on a bite gives way to the light almond cream custard filling . It is not overly sweet so that was a plus. Great for office goers close by to come unwind for a while. But seriously rethink the prices for Macarons now will you? read more

Here was our order ... -London Fog: It was delicious. -Double chocolate cookie: Pretty much a crinkle. Soft but crunch. Good dark chocolate flavor. -Green Tea & Red Bean Muffin: Gooood! Top was crispy and the muffin was dense (just the way I like it) without being dry. -Twice baked almond croissant: Nice almond flavor, flaky but crispy and good choice all around. -Peach danish: Super sticky goodness! Fresh Flours is clean, modern, and both locations are always filled with personable staff. The coffee is smooth enough to drink black and the food is always top notch! About the only complaints I have are regarding the ambience (which feels a tad too sterile - but which I think fits the business clientele who most often frequent this location), and the A/C which seemed to be set to "ice cubes". These are two elements I'm happy to overlook in favor of first-class coffee and nom-noms. PS - The ham and cheese croissant (when warmed in the oven), was buttery, flaky and divine! Everything about this place is sweet-sweet staff, sweet location, sweet name (from the underrated Will Ferrell gem, Stranger than Fiction) and baby, SWEET treats. I am not lying, exaggerating or making up stories when I tell you that the almond croissant I had made my eyes cross, my knees go weak and my soul do a little dance. I drool even now, weeks later, remembering it's honeyed, crispity-crunchity exterior, and flaky, butter-filled insides, all the while inhaling the scent of almonds. The two snarky know-it-all punks working the morning of 7/15 need some lessons on how to greet and treat CUSTOMERS...you know the people who contribute to keeping you in business. I must admit that I came here for the first time because one of my other favorite bakeries was closed on Monday. I had seen Fresh Flours on my trips to Ballard Ave. and made a mental note to try it one day. I liked the logo and it caught my eye. The space was comfy and each time I've been in, the people there have been busy using the wi-fi. That's it. All people on laptops using wi-fi. Due to that fact, it has been very quiet. I have to say that I don't dig places where that's all that's going on. Consequently, I tend to take my things and leave. That vibe doesn't sit well with me. I like the selection of goods - croissants, cookies, and macarons are always at the top of my list. The butter croissants are quite good. The almond croissants could use improvement - the filling is a bit too chunky and sweet for my liking. When you layer that with powdered sugar on the top of the croissant, it all becomes rather overwhelming. My taste buds lose the ability to distinguish the subtleties of good pastry. The cookies that I've tried are well done. The macarons are not the best I've tasted but for the very reasonable price of $1.35, they are a steal compared to other bakeries that can top off near the $3.00 mark. The macarons at Fresh Flours are also smaller than the other places I frequent. All-in-all, a good bakery worth visiting. Yummy food, decent prices, and nice staff. read more

Stars are for good consistent Stumpton coffee and location. You can sit outside, especially during sunny and warm weather. The pastries? they could've been much better taste if they are served hot. Don't make the same mistake as I did... ask the servers before you pay or leave the premise; they won't do it even you are only one step away from the entrance and no customers inside. read more

Located on the street where the farmers market is, Fresh Flours is a great bakery for breakfast and afternoon coffee especially if you are visiting the farmer market and the nearby Hiram Lock. I came here for breakfast and ordered a pithivier, a French pastry that is essentially a pie with two puff pastry with chives and meat in between - It tastes as good as it sounds! The latte also hits the spot too. The bakery has some seating in a clean setting and offers free wifi so I definitely recommend trying this place out if you are around the Ballard area! read more

I was maxed out with regards to sweets and had just eaten lunch so we didn't get any (which was maybe a mistake). My husband ordered a soy cappucino. He was disappointed because it was made with Stumptown coffee and he had been hoping that the place also roasted its own coffee. Don't get me wrong, Stumptown is great coffee and this was. However, it was really more of a latte than a cappucino. The coffee: consistently good for Seattle standards and usually, even when the store is wildly busy, you get your drink within 2 minutes of ordering. The pastries: LOTS of coffeeshops around Seattle carry the generic breakfast taco, squash bread, sweet pastries by some local company that are all kind of meh. These pastries though.... girl. Whether you are a sweet or savory breakfast person, they got you covered. All of their pastries are made in house and they also have really good full and half toasted sammies if you're wanting more of a lunch item. They recently started having gluten free options as well. The staff: these guys are the flipping best. Very personable + great music selection + great banter = always a good start to my morning. The store: it is a small business haven in the middle of the soulless landscape that is SLU. By far one of the best places for pastries in Ballard - dare I say, Seattle? I had long been frequenting the Phinney location before Ballard location opened, and what a dangerously delicious treat. Most recently I tried a cinnamon roll that was ok - I would recommend the pastries. Coffee is pretty good as well, but what you have to come for is the delicious croissants - the fruit ones especially. Breads and muffins are nice as well. The best part is that there is a big display case that winds around the counter so you can stare indecisively while waiting in line. read more

I don't know why I keep bothering myself coming to this place, maybe because it's the closest coffee shop to where I work? They "really" take time to make your drink. So, expect slow turnaround time. And the outcome is at best similar to your local Starbucks. Sometimes even more tasteless. I'll given them that the bake goods are good, after all, they start as a bakery. In my years of experiences, they messed up with your names, messed up with your order. They're friendly and chatty; however, I'd prefer them paying more attention to what item I actually order. The employees at this location are extremely rude. I live right around the corner from this shop and have tried to go in a handful of times to give this coffee shop the benefit of the doubt but the staff are so rude that I will never make that mistake again. They all have a very entitled attitude and treat their customers very poorly. I've seen them be rude to other customers in line, not just myself. Not all staff are friendly. Personally I prefer Evoke for the best tasting espresso drinks in the area. It's difficult to want to patron this place knowing the staff isn't friendly to everyone - only regulars, but it's hard to be a regular if their drinks are okay and staff isn't friendly. And pastries? Usually taste stale unless you get them first thing in the morning.
