Then master carpenter Erwin Seeger took ownership, restored it, and turned it into a cafe and restaurant decades ago. We enjoyed brunch on Sunday after touring ancestral villages. The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. I especially enjoyed the Black Forest cake. While it is tricky to find - it's a 5-10 minute drive from the main town of Lossburg and about 15 miles south of Freudenstadt - the drive through Sternick and the tiny roads of Unterbraendi was scenic and enjoyable. The cake was decadent and creamy, infused with liqueur, cherries, and whipped cream. It was so good that when it was gone I was scouring the dessert plate for another morsel.
