After inquiring with numerous cleaning businesses on Yelp, I noticed how responsive and professional Henry, from Maria's Cleaning, was and quickly received a quote from them of $280 for a whole house deep cleaning. For reference, the house is roughly 1,000 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Fast forward to the day of the house cleaning, Gala, our cleaner, was scheduled to arrive at 1:30PM. However, 1:30 came and went but no one showed up. We waited 5-10 minutes before I reached out and asked if anything was wrong. In fairness, Henry responded quickly and said there was an "unforeseen delay" and that she would be over in 5-10 minutes. Well, 10 minutes passed and still no one. Gala didn't arrive until shortly after 2:30PM, almost an hour after the scheduled time. Gala arrived and we helped her with her many cleaning supplies/equipment into the house, and she got right to work. She started with the bedrooms, and worked her way towards the front of the house. One slight problem was that Gala doesn't speak the best English and when my Mom asked her to focus on certain parts of the house, we weren't quite sure she understood us. However, she forged through and methodically went through the house. Gala probably didn't finish until close to 10PM, however, after she left we noticed a lot of missed areas, dusty corners/ceilings/walls, and some areas completely untouched. Honestly, we were surprised only one cleaner was sent as it felt more like a 2+ person job and as Maria's Cleaning wasn't the cheapest quote I received, I did have higher expectations for their services with a fee close to $300. Sadly, we were disappointed with the tardiness and overall with their cleaning services.

I think a lot of cleaning services would have said "we can't work in these conditions" and left. Not Erika and her crew. I was so impressed by their kindness and understanding toward my mom. I'm big on communication and was impressed with Erika sending before and after photos of the work they did in my mom's home. It looked great but sometime it can be hard to tell from photographs. When I got to my mom's house for Christmas, I was amazed by the cleaning job they did (I got a deep cleaning for the house)! They were very thorough with attention to the details. The most impressive aspect was the kitchen cooktop island they cleaned. My parents purchased the house in 1976 and I don't think the cooktop looked that clean when they first moved in. The cleaning Erika and her crew did, had that cooktop looking almost brand new. I was very impressed with the communication, the cleaning work that was done and most of all the kind of caring human beings they were towards my mom. But unfortunately the quality of their service noticeably declined over the last few years and I changed to Molly Maids. So glad I did! They are so much more thorough. Some issues: 1. unreasonable cancellation policies. They can cancel the day of, but if the client gives less than 2 days' notice, they are still charged the full amount. I once dislocated a shoulder the day before a scheduled cleaning. Mallory the owner said I would still have to pay the full fee! She only backed down after I read her the riot act. I said I'd try to keep their policy in mind if I dislocate a shoulder again and would try to plan any unforeseen events 48 hours before any scheduled cleaning. Ridiculous. 2. the person managing the office, Bernice, has the worst phone skills ever. If the client has an issue, she yells at you, argues, or pretends not to understand the problem. Example: a cleaner did not take out the recycling. I called and said this was unacceptable. Bernice began yelling and said, "how is she supposed to know to take out recycling?" Well, it's next to the trash and it's in the instructions. Bizarre. 3. I said I was uncomfortable with a cleaner who was emotionally unstable and would become unhinged if I reminded her to do something like vacuum the couch. She would begin screaming hysterically. They refused to honor this request even though the cleaner made me uncomfortable with her odd behavior. They continued to send her. 4. A cleaner told me that at Christmastime, rather than give her employees a bonus, Mallory simply makes them divide up any tips received. This is very miserly and a terrible way to treat employees, if true. 5. When I cancelled, Mallory called to confirm. I said, "you do realize you're losing a longtime customer of over 20 years." Her response: "if you come back you don't get a senior discount". Wow. What a strange woman! They should not be in business. Molly Maids cleans much more thoroughly in the same amount of time. They have very reasonable rates and excellent customer service. If you are a Merry Maids client, RUN don't walk to Molly Maids. You'll be glad you did.
