First off, DJ Ann: please give yourself a big pat on the back for being you & shinning that through your smile & professionalism. You go girl! I am so so so grateful to have had you & Andrew mix it up for our wedding. That was a night to remember and it was definitely the party of the year. Til this day, we still bring up all the great times from our event & it brings so much joy to us to know friends and family had a blast! I've always said, you guys did not only create a party but you all created memories. Because of these great memories, it made me want to hire her as our DJ for my dad's bday in December. She was so quick to respond & has always made it her goal to be there for her clients & treat everyone as a priority. Thank you for treating everyone so kind and making us feel more like family. We appreciate the work you all do & I wish you all the best! You guys do such a great job & it really is no surprise why you are booked way in advance. read more

Ron and his team did an amazing job djing my wedding. We were able to request playing a game of Mario kart in front of our guests and he was able to make that possible. He played all of the songs we wanted to hear and kept the door floor full of guests. Would recommend. read more

Ron Zapata was AMAZING and so essential in helping our July 2025 wedding weekend at the Athenaeum at Caltech in Pasadena come to life! He was extremely easy to work with and very knowledgeable when it came to the DJ setup and lighting, giving guidance on where he recommended the set up and how he did the lights (from amber and blush hues to colorful changing lights). He dropped everything to do a venue tour with us and was our most flexible vendor, adding a speaker on the day because he wanted the sound to be perfect. He made a professional remix of Indian dance songs for us and read the room well, incorporating everything from our playlists and more to keep the energy high with no bumps or sound issues at all - it was seamless! His team went above and beyond to add so many touches. We highly recommend Freelance DJ and Lighting - booking with Ron was the BEST decision for our wedding. read more

If you want a DJ that keeps your party dancing all night , continue reading this... DJ Ron was amazing. We met him at a bridal expo, and instantly we knew that he was the DJ for our wedding. Ron did the lighting and DJ/MC services for our wedding. He is great at what he does. He gets the crowd into it. The crowd of 175 people were of different backgrounds (ethnicities and ages) but he still found something to make everyone happy. There was a full dance floor throughout the whole night. He switches from song to song and genre and genre so smoothly. Throughout the night , Ron kept checking on us to make sure we were ok. We would give more than 5 stars if we could. Thank you Ron for a great party ! Also the lighting and monogram was perfect. read more

I can't even fully explain how amazing this company is. After being left with a wedding venue that screwed me over, Ron came to my rescue. Ron and his team are absolutely amazing. They did the lighting and sound for my wedding and at an amazing price to help me out. I am so thankful for all they did to help me during such a stressful time. Not to mention, they were also screwed over by the venue and took a huge money loss, yet still were willing to help out anyone they could. Ann was the highlight of my wedding. She is such an amazing person and I am so blessed that she was a part of my special day. My guests raved about her as a person and what a wonderful dj she is. I cannot thank you enough Ann!!! You truly are the life of the party! My wedding was so beautiful because of the lighting and so fun because of Ann ;) read more

We booked Ron and his team for our wedding this past August. He provided DJ services, decor, and lighting. First and foremost, Ron provides top notch customer service. He is very prompt in his responses, provides photos and examples of his decor and lighting. Prior to booking him, we met and discussed pricing etc. He sat with us and went over everything, recommended certain items that would work with our venue, and was overall so fun to work with. He missed one appointment closer to our big day, but did add in "dancing in the clouds" for us on our big day which I ended up LOVING. The big day - Ron was exceptional. He not only provided DJ Services, Lighting, Decor, but was so organized and coordinated with my father in law who was our coordinator in making sure we were on time for all the important moments. His music selection was awesome. He listened to our requests and provided the party and celebration we wanted. Our family and friends still talk about our wedding and how much fun they had dancing the night away. I would definitely recommend Ron and his team for any wedding. They were amazing! read more

We had dj Ron at our wedding this past Saturday and we are so amazed on how well his proformance was. Everything was set up so elegant and lovely. The pattern lights were my favorite. He gave us his opinion on how they should be angled at our hall because he is experienced at DJing there. Ron is an easy guy to work with and he was very enthusiastic about our event. Everyone was on the dance floor at all times. He worked around our schedule. Even though we made one with him I wasn't ready at some points due to me needing touch ups or whatever the case may be. But he held up the party and announced when my husband and I were ready to move on to the next activity. Love you dj Ron. Can't wait to see you at our next event. read more

We booked Freelance Event because it was recommended to us for our wedding. The Day of Coordinator (Sofia) mentioned that DJ (Ron) knows the Hidden Acres routine and is a great DJ that enhances the environment. If you take anything from my post please take this advice. We booked him and we were presented with a URL link for us to upload our songs. I made multiple Spotify links with the titles Appetizers, Dances, etc all clearly labeled and to be played when those events begin. We requested via email AND text message for the DJ to not play the whole song and only parts. The DJ ignored our requests and played the whole song so the mood would die down during our dance portion. I went up to him multiple times throughout the day to remind him. When I would go up, he would be off talking to Sofia or EATING. In addition, we requested for the father/daughter and mother/son to be shortened and he kept playing the song AND recording for his Instagram to post. While dancing we waved at him THREE times to tell him to end the dance. NOW for the most irksome part. Like I previously stated, I made playlists for each section of the wedding. For the dance portion, HE DIDN'T PLAY OUR PLAYLIST, he played his. We have a more reserved family and did not want to play "Get Low" and we explicitly talk about not having it at our wedding. BUT HE PLAYED IT and he played the EXPLICIT version at a brunch wedding. Like read the room. Additionally, for our walk-out portion (where people through roses and we exit) he couldn't find our song. So, we had to play a random one. It was highly disappointing because we spent countless hours trying to find the perfect music for us and our guests. Maybe this company has other great DJ's but my experience was not the best (Ron) and I would advise others to ensure that your event goes as planned. Though our guests won't remember all the errors that occurred, we as a couple will. We spent countless time and money to create such a memorable day and all detailed should have been reviewed on their end prior to the event. There is no excuse for the MANY errors that occurred at the wedding. Communication is a FOUNDATIONAL element to running a company/business and Ron has missed the mark. I highly advise not continuing with this company. read more

I was hired to plan a wedding in 30 days, yes 30 day!! It was a small backyard wedding with 50 guests. Ron was able to provide DJ service for the ceremony which was held at the Ontario Doubletree hotel and the reception at the couples home in Claremont. He also provided the market/bistro lighting which completed the look of the event. Ron is always a pleasure to speak deal with and has always treated me with a lot of respect. Thank you Ron, I look forward to many more events together. Ana - Dream Events read more

I just made a yelp and wanted to share my experience! I hired this company for my weddings August 22, 2014. I met them at a bridal show and the prices were unbeatable. We had a great time at our wedding in general, the set up that the company did was great, however I had a few problems. When I had my first meeting, Ron said he was going to be our Dj. On my final meeting Ron said his brother, who I met, was going to be the dj. The day of my wedding it was 2 totally different people that I've never met before. I had a special presentation for my fiancé for his bday segment that I talked to Ron about and he made it seem possible. The day of our wedding it did not go as planned with the "unknown" dj. The song that was suppose to be played after my performance was not played! It was Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder so instead I just had the guest sing Happy Birthday altogether. Then he played it after, which was pointless. Also the dj kept saying our name as "STEVENSON" our name is pronounced "STEPHENS" how could he mess up our name now it's on our wedding video smh!!! I text Ron about the service and I never got a response. And I have proof. My problem is, just don't throw anyone in to Dj if I didn't meet or know anything about them! As I saw many other photos of weddings they services, Ron is always THERE! Photos of the setup and all but I guess we were different to where we couldn't get that same treatment smh!!! Here is the message I sent Ron, I still have it today and he still hasn't responded "Hello Ron, Lijuan and I had a great time, the setup was GREAT, we loved it...however there were a few flaws with the service. I thought your brother that I met the last meeting was going to be our dj. I was highly upset because the Dj that we had did not provide what YOU AND I talked about for the birthday part, He did NOT play the "section" of STEVIE WONDER THAT WE DISCUSSED. It messed up my vision because I had to have EVERYBODY SING THE "REGULAR" happy birthday, also they skipped over the BRIDE-Son dance and I had to make sure that was the FIRST THING we did after dinner, HIS concept of the money dance was NOT A GOOD IDEA, normally the bride and groom both dance together and guest showers them with money, well the dj wanted to have a separate line "girl and boy" to dance with us one on one, FIRST OF ALL, WHAT GUY IS GONNA BE COMFORTABLE TO DANCE ALONE WITH THE BRIDE ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE A GUEST, THEREFORE THE MONEY DANCE WAS A FAIL UNTIL I JUST SAID EVERYBODY JUST GET UP....I just wish YOU were our dj like you said you would be when we had our first meeting or it would have been your brother that i had met, because I was comfortable and knew it would be great but NOPE IT WASNT because that was most important to me" I am more so not satisfied with the lead on and miscommunication!! The lighting was great though! read more

Freelance Event Sound & Lighting - Our nice monogram! - DJs Near Me - Upland, California

I wish I could give Ron more than 5 stars, for really going above and beyond. We had, of course, hired him to DJ our wedding, and in that role he nailed it. He was always courteous and professional in communicating with us before our wedding, and made getting our wedding music right a breeze. We gave him a few songs we definitely wanted played, then gave him leeway by describing broad genres (ex. 80's music, 90's alternative) for him to run with. He kept the party going and our guests loved the music and kept on raving about the DJ. The thing is, Ron didn't just excel in his role as a DJ. Unfortunately, our venue completely let us down. The venue was unprepared, causing our ceremony and reception areas to be moved, and the whole wedding delayed. DJ Ron rolled with the changes with a smile, which helped keep me calm. When our venue wedding coordinator just vanished (before the ceremony even started), it was Ron who stepped in and filled the role. He kept the reception moving and did the things the venue was supposed to be doing for us. For example, during the cake cutting, it was Ron, not the venue, who got us our silverware! Ron, it was such a pleasure having you at your wedding. Thank you again for everything you did for us. To anyone else reading this, give Ron a call. I think he'll win you over on your first meeting. read more

If it was possible to award 10 stars my wife and I would! Our wedding took place at the Claremont Colleges. We have high standards and expectations, Ron far exceeded them! This not an easy feat since the expectation that I have and the venue are hard to meet. Since the very beginning Ron was very communicative to my wife and I and went as far to meet with me at my workplace in Claremont. Moreover, he is extremely cognizant of the guests and is able to adjust accordingly. At our wedding of 200+ we have people from different demographics.and walks of life. Ron is keen and was able to produce a wedding music playlist that kept everybody entertained and dancing, Moreover the up lighting was exquisite and my guest mentioned how beautiful the lighting was. We are certain that we will use him again for our events with my family and at my workplace! Very respectful and professional. Highly recommend! read more

The music makes the party! Nothing is more true when it comes to a DJ. They are truly the make or break of any event and DJ Ron absolutely made our wedding day! Ron was such a joy to work with and did an amazing job of keeping the reception flowing smoothly. My husband and I were over joyed with how the lighting of our event spaced turned out as well! I had my wedding at Hidden Acres in Lytle Creek and was informed Dj Intellegence was the company that works with the venue and I can absolutely say me and my husband were beyond pleased with everything. Communication was very easy, they meet your expectations and will sure get the party going! Alex was the Dj for my wedding and his great upbeat personality made things run even smoother at my wedding and of course, made it fun! My music requests were just as planned and was very attentive towards myself and husband with any needs we had the whole night. Thank you so much for making my wedding that much better! read more

October 2015 update: I used this vendor again. This time they sent me to a site where I was able to select songs and save my play list. I was also able to print it for future use. Win Win! This time my experience was much better because I planned ahead and gave them a list of exactly what I wanted. The DJ and his helper were dressed appropriately, polite and respectful. This time, they get 5 Stars! October 2014: I hired this company to DJ a family party. Everyone I dealt with at Freelance Sound & Lighting was friendly, nice and professional. The DJ arrived on time and kept everyone who wanted to dance on the dance floor. Our DJ was dressed nice (no hip hop clothing or pants falling off). With my prepayment and contract agreement I provided a list of types of music I wanted to hear. I got everything I requested except one genre. Since no one knew about this but me, my guests were more than satisfied. I'd give them 4.75 because of the one genre not played, but since I cannot, I must go with 4. For the record, due to most of the communication taking place the week of the event, I feel there wasn't enough time for the DJ to prepare for all my various music requests. My advice to all, give specific names of songs or band names you really want to hear. I stated play some 80's KROQ music / Richard Blade style, had I listed names of bands and songs I would have likely got everything I wanted. Partially my mistake. Prepayment and signed Contracts are required. I do recommend this service provider and will be using them again. read more

This DJ company is phenomenal! A couple of days before our wedding Ron contacted me to make sure that my husband & I were taken care of and even accommodated me with my last minute song requests. Ann who was our MC/DJ for the night, I can't even explain the warmth & love that she brought to our wedding. She made us feel like we were her family and she would stop at NOTHING to make sure that my husband & I enjoyed every single minute of our wedding. We had a beautiful wedding. The MC for the night did help make it a fun night and kept it entertaining. I just had a few things to comment about. We had a great 2 hour meeting going over everything for our wedding. Going over music, color of lights, special monograms, we paid extra for. Come to the day of, lighting was off, no monogram on dance floor, and they didn't even have our first song. (I had to address these issues and they were later fixed) We spent hours/days on our music list and maybe "a few" songs were played from our list. I had my decoration coordinator go up to the MC and ask about playing the game for centerpieces and make the announcement about sign in book, and MC never made the announcement or played game. We still had a blast and everyone stayed dancing all night! read more

Freelance is great!! I met with Anne and she is totally awesome! Unfortunately she couldn't DJ our wedding but the 2 guys that did were great! They kept the party going and were great with organizing all the dances. On top of that they were helping my venue staff rearrange my entire wedding last minute due to horrible rain and wind. They were willing to be in the rain, getting soaking wet, all to help make my wedding happen. That is so awesome and I appreciate that so very much. We had Dj Michael at my nephew's graduation party back in August. I was listening my ipod and a couple of songs came up that he was playing and it reminded me of how good he was that night. He had us going. Our family loves to dance and he had no problem playing any of our requested songs. I'm sure he got a kick out of us doing the soul train. He was very professional and was there early to set up and waited till we finished everything on our end to take down. I am very happy our DJ. read more

I don't ever really put reviews up but here we go. This DJ service was part of our wedding package back in March. They were ok but it honestly felt like our wedding was an after thought for them and not a priority. I reached out to Ron over a year before our wedding and was told that I would have him as our DJ and that we would meet again in person before the wedding. About a month before our wedding the venue told us to go in for a final detail appointment. With us living in LA and our venue being in the San Bernardino mountains we thought it would be good to meet with Ron while we were out there. So I called him and he said he would be meet us at the venue for the detail appointment. Well he never showed. When I called him he said he must have forgotten. So we have a video chat as our last meeting before my wedding. We went over all the details we wanted and didn't want. Honestly we didn't really care about any of it except one thing. We didn't want to do a garter toss. Well a month later on our wedding day we find out at the reception that Ron couldn't make it. He didn't even bother to call us. We ended up with Ann (she was amazing. Everyone loved her. She got everyone dancing. It was great). The problem was that it felt like all the things we discussed with Ron were not communicated to Ann. We were really clear that we did not want to do a garter toss. I didn't even have a garter. Well Ann announced it was about to happen. I told her multiple times that we didn't want to do it and that we didn't even have a garter. She still went ahead with it. She gave my husband one of the bouquets and told him to put it under my dress to grab. Which we didn't do because we thought that was ridiculous. We were both so confused and embarrassed. It was very annoying. All of our guests could see we were visibly upset and confused. I felt like that ruined a part of our night. Overall the wedding day was no where near perfect with rain and many other complications so I felt like this made it a little worse. The communication with freelance was terrible and it created a situation that was very avoidable. I see all these events they do that everyone is so happy about and I wish I had the same experience. read more

Thanks so much for making my daughter's Sweet 16 last Saturday such a success. Because of all the frenzy of planning and the details, a lot of the lighting and music choices was left to you guys.
