This playground is incredible! A community funded project, this playground is not to be missed - it has designs and features I haven't seen anywhere else! We love stopping to play here if we are in the Deland area. Freedom Playground has plenty of parking, bathrooms, pavilions with picnic tables, and playground equipment that can be used by a wide range of ages and body abilities. I love that the park has one main entrance gate to keep kids contained and also has the little kid area separate from the big kid area. There are accessibility features like wheelchair accessible ramps for the playground equipment and a ground level merry-go-round. There's plenty of slides, climbing and obstacles, a zip line, pirate ships, pretend play houses, and all the features you would want in a playground. I love the nods to Florida with multiple gators throughout! Freedom Park is a Florida gem! read more

From what I've read online, DeLand faced the exact same issue that so many municipalities around the country have faced and continue to face regarding what to do with their playgrounds. At one point in time it was a thing to build these large destination playgrounds made out of wood. While a nice idea on paper, eventually the upkeep proves to be problematic and expensive. Eventually the municipality is faced with the hard choice of costly renovations that will need to be redone in the not too distant future, demolishing the structure or trying to replace it with something more modern/contemporary. Either way it equals a lot of money that usually is nowhere to be found. Thankfully a few years ago DeLand along with residents, area companies, school children and a newly formed non-profit committee figured out how to replace the original wooden structure. Amazingly over 300K in private donations were raised along with DeLand kicking in the rest and what you have today is an amazing structure/facility. In my own area there have a been a few success stories with places like this: www.savekidscastle.org/ But there have also been a few mismanaged disasters with places like this: articles.mcall.com/2004-11-19/news/3571642_1_playground-jungle-gym-time-capsule What works here: * Lots of parking * Solidly clean bathrooms * Lots of shaded areas * Super safe recycled rubber ground which means no tracking mulch into the car * A very needed water fountain * Lots of different structures/play areas/misters that offer a ton of diversity What doesn't work: * At least when we were here the zipline was in sad shape. It needs to be raised up or just gotten rid of it because it was way too low to be enjoyable. I don't want to lay on the hyperbole but honestly aside one other park (Kids Castle in Doylestown, PA) this place is the nicest that I've ever seen and even though my kids are arguably a bit on the too old side to be enjoying a place like this, they still did. Fantastic park! I take my girls regularly to it and there's always a great group of kids for them to play with. The park is big and has a large variety of things to do for kids ranging from 1 year, all the way to preteens. The only downfall I can really point out is that there is usually a large amount of bees at the entrance of the park where you have to walk through. We've never been stung but my girls do freak out sometimes walking past them. I believe they regularly address this problem however but unfortunately the bees keep returning. read more

Nice little park and playground for the kids, lots for them to do with only one way in or out which makes it easier to keep an eye on them when you have more than one. Kind of far to go from Daytona for just a playground but it was worth the drive. Would go again and recommend to others. read more

Great park. Lots to explore. There is a big kid side and a little kid side. Places for parents to sit. The front opening is not gated. There are some places that are shaded to sit but as a whole the park is not shaded. I like this park but i wont bring my two kids there by myself since there is a lot of area on the bigger kids side that is not in full view. My babies are 2 and 4 so being able to see them at all times is the utmost importance to me. read more

First...the "tip" that indicates the playground got or is ghetto is 100% inaccurate. Just nice families with young children playing. Second...The persons review with pictures regarding garbage on the ground is another inaccuracy. Specifically looked and not one piece of garbage on the ground. Those pictures should be taken off. Now, my personal review. It indicates "Freedom Playground" That's exactly what it is. Not a park, no hiking trails or anything like that. However, for a playground it's awesome. Has the kid zip line, 2 water misters to cool you off, shaded areas, shelters with BBQ grills, bathrooms and tons of climbing, swinging and just cool things to play on for kids. I do not recommend going here if your child is over the age of 7-8 though. Perfect entertainment for kids 3-7 (maybe 2-8). My daughter is 9 and had fun but short lived. It was something free to do, took about 20-25 min to get there (using the Daytona Speedway as a reference) easy straight forward drive. I give this a 4 because personally I thought, for a playground, it was awesome. Never had places like this when I was a kid and I'm 41 years old. Lol read more

This park is amazing and expertly designed with so many entertaining things to do! It also wasn't too busy and had plenty of parking when we went. I've been to quite a few playgrounds after having kids and because I live in SoFla. The only playground that comes close is Sugar Sand in Boca. My husband thinks it's nicer, but I think this playground had more variety minus the splash pad & $1 merry-go-round at Sugar Sand. I read the other reviewer's history about this park and that's amazing about the $300k. Wow, what a community and city. You should be proud. I can't wait to take my kids when we visit grandma again. Lastly, it wasn't spraying water when we went and there is something hazardous there (some missing netting where you can technically get crushed??? Idk if my husband is just being dramatic) that my husband noticed (I couldn't check it out), but I think they're going to submit details to the city. My only other request is get a vending machine or a good truck please! It was so hot I just wanted ice cold water. read more

What a great new park for Deland! Just opened three weeks ago, with springy surfaces for kids to run in, fully fenced, and a separate area for the littlest ones. This is so big it can actually be tricky to keep your kid in sight, but there is plenty to do--multiple monkey bars, saucer and regular-style swings, in-ground merry-go-round, zip line, several climbing walls, and a castle-themed climbing structure. The zip lines sags a little, which makes it slow and gentle for kids who are new to it. Pretty great for ages 2 - 5. Overall, the playground seems well-designed, though it could benefit from the addition of a grown-up strolling / jogging track around the perimeter, for stir-crazy moms to get a little exercise while their older kids run around. read more

Freedom Playground was one of my favorites growing up. I was kind of worried when they tore down the old wooden castle and installed the new playground. They didn't disappoint! There are lots of themed play sets that are not only fun for the kids, but adorable to look at. Some things have a lot of wear and tear already, but that happens when it is such a great place for all the kids to play on! Huge. New. Clean. Tons of unique equipment/stations like the kid-safe zip line. Numerous "houses" to play in. Separate areas by age range. Recycled rubber ground throughout (so it's soft and doesn't fill kids' shoes with rocks or mulch). Clean restrooms on site. Probably the perfect playground. read more

Amazing! This might just be the best playground we've ever been to! The structures are great and the park is so clean! It to mention the great "flooring" that makes falling a little less impactful on their knees. The zip line is probably the coolest thing we've ever seen at a playground. The old park was nice,now they rebuilt the entire playground has the new cushion play surface everything is composite no splinters or rotting everything you can think of and a zip line .New pavilions are being built and remodeling old public bathrooms. read more

This playground makes me want to be a kid again! Its the coolest one I have ever seen and they have things for all ages, it looks like one side is for bigger kids and the other for younger ones.
