The STNA's were well trained and helpful when I needed help. Physical therapy/Occupational therapy staff were excellent at what they do. Without them I wouldn't have gained my strength so quickly.

I am only giving this facility one star because it isn't possible to give it zero stars. After knee…read morereplacement surgery I had to go to a rehabilitation facility because I live alone. Even though the surgery went well I was not able to care for myself for a couple weeks. I chose Heartland in Bellefontaine to be close to family and friends. I had heard bad things about them but a friend gave them a good recommendation based on her friend's recent positive experience. I arrived by ambulance around 4:00 pm and I checked myself out (via ambulance) at 1:00 am. So many things were wrong I can't possibly list them all but the one that prompted me to leave was they denied me medical care. I rapidly developed a problem with the knee and thought I should have a physician take a look at it. I told the nurse who called the resident physician who said he would be there the next morning. I thought it was serious enough to warrant being seen immediately. I asked the nurse to call an ambulance so I could be taken to the emergency room. The nurse refused. After a lengthy conversation of me insisting I wanted to be seen by a medical doctor she told me Medicare (I'm a senior citizen) would not pay for the ambulance to transport me. (I found out later from Medicare that was a total lie.) I told the nurse I would pay for it myself and she still would not call an ambulance. I finally called one myself on my cell phone. When they arrived, one of the ambulance attendants was very nice to me but the other one was downright rude. It was obvious the nurse had talked to him because he kept repeating all the things she had said. The polite attendant actually apologized for his partners behavior. I needed help dressing and the nursing assistant who helped me whispered that I was the third person in two weeks to leave in this manner. I was told that one patient actually called the police to come and get them out. I cannot believe this place is still in business. I did have a problem with my knee and was referred to my orthopedic surgeon. After examining my knee and hearing the story of what happened he told me I had done exactly the right thing. The admitting Doctor at the next rehab center told me the same thing and said he wished all his patients felt confident enough to stand up for themselves the way I had if they found themselves in that position. If you are looking for a rehab center following surgery or a nursing home for a relative or yourself I would recommend that you keep looking. This place is not only frightening it's dangerous.
