She had us feeling more confident with dance after just the first lesson. She also makes it fun. We felt like we could actually dance in public after our third session (although there is still a lot of room for improvement). It's hard for me to say "as good as it gets". This is my first dance studio. On the other hand I really don't have many complaints. They are a bit pricey. So far everything else has been really good. The instructors seem to know what they are doing given that they are making me able to dance after just two lessons. As I write this I've had four now and I'm actually not hopelessly bad. I can even do some basic things with competence! It's actually surprising how quickly the instructor progresses us. And he makes it fun, and is patient when we screw up. They have a beginner program of 5 lessons, and after that they have different levels you can enroll. Bronze is basically "social dancing" where you can dance at various social occasions doing multiple different steps depending on the music. We will have to decide soon if we are going to pursue that. Their top-tier program prepares a person for competitive dancing. Seems to be a good school. read more

I've been taking lessons at FADS Chandler for almost a year and I absolutely LOVE all the staff and instructors at the studio! Everyone is so encouraging and friendly, my fellow dancers are wonderful, and the atmosphere is always positive. I recently turned 50 and have wanted to ballroom dance since my college days, but it was never right--never the right partner, never the right time, never the right [fill in the blank]. After an unexpected and unwelcome divorce, I decided to finally pursue my dream--by myself, without a partner! My instructor, Alexis, and all the dance instructors, dance masters, and Lisa, the owner, have encouraged me to do things I never would have thought possible, then celebrated with me when I did! They have helped me to grow physically and emotionally, and I have a newfound sense of confidence not only in what I am physically capable of, but also my ability to achieve anything I set my mind to. I love that they meet me at my level, then challenge me to achieve the next. The jig is up... I've been taking dance lessons. My fiancée and I walked in as newbies and have been waltzing out as better than your average two-steppers. Frustrated by our first dance studio experience, we looked all over Yelp trying to find a dance instructor who could give us some smooth dance moves for our upcoming wedding. We really didn't want to embarrass ourselves on the dance floor. Seeing the introductory offer from Fred Astaire, I booked us a lesson. Our instructor John quickly realized our deeper interest in ballroom dance, and we eventually put together a full wedding routine that integrated Rumba and Cha-Cha to our chosen music compilation (they even helped with the mixing!). The result was fantastic - we couldn't have been happier with our choreographed arrangement. From there, we've stuck with Fred Astaire, learning from our primary instructor Sean and occasionally Nance. Right now, we're signed on to the Bronze Program which lets you pick from a long list of dances (Swing, Waltz, Tango, Mambo/Salsa... just to name a few). The schedule is flexible and we go at least once a week. One of the best things about this place are all the opportunities for group classes, personal instruction on technique, and a Thursday practice party where you can tighten up your skills with instructors and other students. There's always a theme and a really fun, up-beat vibe. You can even perform at one of their stage exhibitions, doing anything from dancing a professionally choreographed routine to choosing a specific style. We've got one coming up in a few months! It seems like they're open to almost any age group, and singles are most definitely welcome. I've been really impressed by the professionalism and skill of every dance instructor who's stepped in the place. We worked with David to practice for our wedding song dance. I was very anxious and David was very patient and understanding. He took the time to work out any issues I had when trying to figure out what I was doing. I would definitely return once I'm done spending all this money towards the wedding. I joined Fred Astaire in 2003 and went for as long as I could afford it.This dance studio is all about high pressure sales. I noticed that they really work on the lonely; widowers, divorcees, etc. They make you feel like you are part of their family and when you run out of money, drop you like a hot potato. I didn't even finish my last few lessons because of the hot/cold nonsense. Everything is very expensive and I know of other customers who went through their life savings just to stay a part of this group because they were lonely. It is very sad that people can earn their living taking advantage of others. The dance instructors are very talented so I gave one star. read more

After about 6 months of lessons, I think it is time I reviewed ol' Fred Astaire! The dance studio of course, not the dancer and actor. That guy would get 5 stars too though. My (then) fiancé and I started with the beginner package, which is 2-private lessons, a group lesson and a practice party. Our hope was to learn some basic dance moves so we wouldn't make fools of ourselves on the dance floor at our own wedding and possibly choreograph a number for our first dance. We had the songs picked out and an idea, we just needed an expert to help us put it together and learn how to move our feet. We almost immediately upgraded our beginner package to the Social Foundation package, which teaches the basics of 4 different social dances. We started learning rumba and cha-cha (necessary for our wedding routine), AZ two-step, and swing. The wedding dance turned out *perfect* and we had such a great time learning it. Fast forward 4 months and we're still dancing! We're now in the middle of our bronze program, learning 8 different ballroom styles. We go about once a week, and I always look forward to our lesson. There are so many benefits to learning how to dance, not the least of which is having a timeless hobby with my new husband. Great experience. My fiance' and I purchased a deal for some private and group lessons so we could dance at our wedding. We went in very apprehensive and beyond intimidated. Despite the fact that beginner doesn't even begin to describe our skill level, we very quickly felt right at home. Every single staff member told us hello and welcomed us, we loved that. This place is magical! The staff is first class. They make you feel right at home. The dance is exciting and the instructors ease you in no matter what your level. I first came to the studio as a guest for a halloween costume party. I fell in love with it and the adorable staff. I then did a 3 class trial. It was a blast. Unfortunately I didn't get to finish my whole trial. I live in north Phoenix and it was too much of a drive. If I lived in the area I'd definitely take more classes. We purchased the introductory special for two private lessons to learn some basic things for our upcoming wedding and loved every minute of it. Everyone is really friendly and bubbly, and our instructor Tyler is an absolute delight. He asked a lot of questions and genuinely seemed like he wanted to know us. He was very upfront about it being introductory and ideally would lead into our purchase of a wedding package, so there were no surprises and I really appreciate that. Unfortunately, we were unable to make a full 10-lesson commitment fit into our wedding budget (even though it is really reasonably priced!), but they were really understanding and we didn't feel pressured at all throughout the process. My 18-year-old daughter and I love to dance. I'm just not very good at it. We tried one other studio last year and learned more about swing. We thought we'd try something new this year and picked out Fred Astaire studios for their yelp presence. Steven our instructor was engaging and detail oriented. If you're looking for a place to learn how to dance, I sure hope you live near the chandler location of Fred Astaire Dance Studio. I started back in October to get ready for a friend's wedding and quickly became addicted to how great this place makes me feel. Don't wait! Don't fear! The instructors here will make learning ballroom dance so much fun you'll wish you could quit work, put up a cot in the corner and live there (not allowed, by the way -- I've looked into it). You'll make amazing friends (because everybody that walks through those doors is bound to be as fun loving and up for new adventures as you are, right?!) and you'll receive the best instruction available anywhere. This franchise has been around long enough to have already worked out the smoothest ways to move you from step right-together-left to gold level competition ballroom. Or as far as you want to go. As soon as you start, you'll proabably realize, as I did, that that's farther than you thought possible! And, guys, please go here and get a clue -- men who know how to lead are hot hot hot. This is a great place to start learning.
