You know sometimes I just randomly pick a spot and it's amazing. Quick lunch after an appointment in Spartanburg? Okay let's get Italian. This place has likely bumped off my prior "favorites". The Zucchini Sticks were probably the best I've had since I can't remember! At first I thought, "great what did they put on it ". But that garlic butter drizzle on them really took what could be "good" zucchini sticks to "HOLY COW, I need more of this in my life"! Hubby got the Cheesesteak Hero Sandwich, I got the Rigatoni Bolognese and we both got side house salads with house dressing. House dressing was REALLY good! This is a lively little Italian restaurant on the east side of town. They have a huge menu section. There was something for everyone. The service was attentive and she did a great job. The only HUGE issue was an order of calamari that was ordered as an entree. We asked for it to be brought out with the entrees. We waited, everyone received their food and then 10 minutes later we were informed they were out of calamari. It was the first thing ordered and we were not told about the issue until all other food was served. read more

A search for a high-quality pizza in the Carolina's is like looking for a needle in a haystack and from what I have experienced, Fratello's is one of those needles. While the interior decor may look more like a pizza hut than that of an authentic Italian restaurant, the pizza does stand out in a positive light. Price for food and drinks are affordable get there early cause of limited parking. Stephanine was our bartender she makes the best Long Island drink. Food was good but the wait was horrible. It really wasn't very busy and took us over an hour to get two pizzas. It was crazy how long it took and how hot it was. WOW!!!! Wow wow first time in South Carolina visiting from New Jersey on a business trip and wanted to go out for some good Italian food! I got the shrimp scampi the first day and today the eggplant parm Not only did our entire table leave with satisfied taste buds and a fully stomach, we had amazing service as well! My girlfriend had the Chicken Alfredo Pizza and I had the Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza. Both were wonderful! They served you bread before dinner and the Italian bread was as good as the pizza! Holy cow!! My wife and I loved everything we had at this place. Best meatball sub ever, some of the best wings ever. The pizza was unique and tasty. What a joy it truly is to come across an Italian restaurant you've never went to before. Whatever there is to expect, they're gotta be better than Olive Garden. The more traditional, the better. Parking is awful, so expect that. After parking in the back of the restaurant like I worked there I made my way in through two sets of doors wondering why they didn't have one propped open, especially since the inner doors a fairly small for large groups coming and going. The server didn't tell me their name which is usually the first mistake of all servers but was very pleasant and kept checking on me. Service with a smile! So that brings us to the rundown.... Bread: 2/5 Stars Came to the table nice and warm...with nearly frozen rock hard butter. Garlic Knots: 4/5 Stars Good flavor, fresh smell of garlic. I'm impressed! Bolognese Rigatoni: 2/5 Stars Served piping hot and good presentation but tasted like chef boyardee...something came from a can or belongs back in it. Pasta cooked well and al dente. So in the end, nothing stood out to give any recommendations yet nothing was bad. Well, except for the bolognese, stay far away from that. I think they smoke the meat for two days then boil it for another five before it's served. However, I still can't get over how they managed to make it taste exactly like Chef Boyardee. Food was out quick, tasted ok not the best not the worst. 16 dollars for lasagna and a salad doesn't come with the entree. Seriously??? No salad with entrees unless you take off your pasta. I am appalled at the meal I took home after ordering it to go from the bar, at 4:30 p.m. on Monday evening, 10/21. A dozen garlic parmesian chicken wings and a meatball appetizer. Where do I begin? The sauce the meatballs were in had a strong burnt taste to it. The meatballs themselves were so salty, I could not eat them. As if an accident of spilled salt into the meat had occurred and was ignored. I'm also wondering if the obvious imbalance of ingredients created by the excessive salt is what caused the meatballs to completely disintegrate when trying to use utensils to eat them. The chicken wings were black, not because they were blackened, but because the fryer oil was burnt and probably rancid. The oil that naturally runs off the in the styrofoam container was also black. The garlic parmesian sauce was of course, excessive salt and parmesian. $28 dinner for one went straight into the trash. I didn't want to fight Monday dinner time traffic to take it back. That's on me. I'm guessing Monday kitchen staff isn't very highly trained, but if that's true there should be a manager putting eyes on every dish going out. This was absolutely terrible. read more

Food is delicious. This was my favorite italian places until my last visit. Service is terrible. Management is worse. They owners son (as our waiter told us) was yelling and cussing at another pizza cook. It was very unprofessional. The waiter told us this was common and everyone was terrified because the owners son is 17 and can get away with murder and fires everyone who disagrees with him, and they had lost a few employees by the 17 year old temper and abuse (The waiter should not have told us this). The abuse I witnessed by this kid to other employees is intolerable. If the owner doesn't have more pride than handling his own child than how can he manage the restaurant. The service is very slow but that never bothered me until the management started cussing at other employees. Reading other reviews, I see this is common. I will not support an establishment that abuses employees just because they want to keep their delinquent child employed. And it makes me sad because I had this place rated 4 stars. If management handles the bad behavior and rids themselves of abuse teenagers than maybe I'll return. read more

Fratello's opened in the space that was formerly Rita's, and before that Mexico Lindo, next to Dudley's on Fernwood Glendale Road. If the front parking lot is full (there are only about 4 spaces), just head around the right of the building to the back parking lot. Spartanburg doesn't have many purely Italian restaurants, but we should be proud to have this one. All of their sauces are homemade, and you can absolutely tell. I just recently got into their pizza menu, and it's amazing as well! They did a wonderful job redecorating the space. It's clean and dark and moody (in a good way) with a long bar and very cool wine bottle wall. Lots of booths = right up my alley. Great for a romantic evening! The hubs always goes in intending to branch out, but always comes back to his favorite italian classic: Spaghetti Bolognese. The sauce is creamy and meaty and would be good just on a spoon, but you can choose from 6 different pastas plus 3 wheat varieties. There are also 11 other sauces, so really an endless combination. I've also personally tried the alfredo on the cappellini (angel hair) with shrimp, more than once, and you can't go wrong there either. Be sure to save a roll for after you finish your meal to sop up that sauce!! So the pizza menu also has endless combinations, and I've only tried one, but I've gotten it twice now. It's the Green Pizza: pesto sauce, chicken, spinach and artichokes. I add jalapenos, because, well, I tend to add jalapenos to all of my pizzas. Again, sauce is on point, but the crust is also a hit with me. It's thin and crusty, like a good italian pizza should be! Note: you do not need a medium for one person unless you want leftovers for days (which I kinda did). They have a personal size, so maybe aim for that if you aren't sharing. I'd be remiss not to mention Fratello's Famous Pasta. It's sausage, chicken and shrimp on farfalle with roseli sauce, which is a creamy marinara. It's first up on the entree menu so you can't miss it, and you really shouldn't. Heads up: it's difficult to finish any of the pasta dishes without taking some home, but it can be done (trust me). Head to Fratello's on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays for buy one get one 1/2 off pizzas, or Thursdays if you'd like to enjoy house wine for $3 a glass!!
