Cambridge Street Car Park

I made a pretty substantial discovery the other day. Interested? Well, then let me continue. I…read morediscovered that the Cambridge Street Car Park (which is the one just about opposite Cowcaddens Subway Station) does a special offer on parking from 6pm to 6am. No matter how long you stay in the carpark between the two times - there's a simple flat fee of £1.50. Bargain? Bargain! That means that if you're off into town for the Cinema or the like, it's actually a LOT cheaper to drive in than it is to get the Subway or the bus. Especially if there's more than one of you. Plus, Cambridge Street carpark is brightly lit and secure - if you want to get into the building as a pedestrian you have to swipe a valid carparking ticket. It's also never busy, which means you'll always be able to get a space on the ground floor within about ten paces from the pay station. Ah, my nightly cinema trips will never be the same......

The smooth, black tarmac, the bold white lines, the striking breezeblock architecture, and not forgetting the glistening pay-and-display machines, I think I need a lie down.... Indeed, it does. However, sometimes in order to get to these funky happening places you need to park your car. Being a mainly public transport or walking type of girl, this is something which ordinarily doesn't occur to me. Yet, on entering a course last week I was shocked that when someone asked me about the nearest car park I really had to think about it. Furthermore, I could not for the life of me explain where it was (I am truly terrible at giving directions). And so, I decided this was a necessary review. This car park is fairly big (in West End standards) and is located just behind the Marks and Spencers off of Byres Road and Ashton Lane. From this, you'll realise how handy it is for the buzz of Byres Road and 'The Lane'. It's a Glagsow City Council Car Park so prices are average (I think) andit's very cheap for an all day ticket on Sundays. Perfect, for a spot of West End Sunday shopping and eating. Meanwhile, it tends to be quieter than the other car park which is more easily noticeable from Byres Road so there's always a good chance that you'll find a space or that one will quickly become available.

I am also a massive Nike fan girl. I go to the gym a lot, bordering too much, so I need a fair amount of sports leggings/tops/bras. Basically, paying a little bit more of good quality, works for me as endless washes doesn't wear through the fabric resulting in see-through tights (my BIGGEST pet peeve at the gym) . The Nike shop in Kingsgate, isn't the biggest shop, but don't let that full you. There is a mens section on the left, womens on the right, kids in the middle and the shoe wall at the back. All the sizes available and all the colours are out for display, and at the very back wall, even further reductions. I picked up some Nike Free Runs for 55, which are normally around 100 in store. The staff were really helpful, even with half an hour to close, and suggested I do take the bigger size as your feet sweat. He also said if I wasn't happy with them after wearing indoors only, to come back and they'd trade sizes. I really appreciate honest staff, and saying this persuaded me to make the purchase as I did have the guarantee of being able to return. The clothes stock can be hit and miss, they didn't have the specific leggings I like, but they do get stock in 3 times a week, so its just a luck game! A great little shop, credit to the Nike brand and well worth the drive. Open till 8pm, Mon-Sat. Thanks to the friendly staff :)

It's easy to get to - it's up a ramp by the train station, and because the locals seem to hate it, it's never full. There's foot-exits at either end and meters, so it works out pretty well. Just be careful as it can be narrow for parking when it's busy. When you pay at the meter you need to enter your registration and put it on your dash, which I think is excessive. But I guess they're watching you on CCTV so it makes their lives easier. We once parked here and Graeme got our registration wrong, but thankfully they never fined us so obviously there's a human in there somewhere. All up, this is a pretty good car park for Clarkston Toll. If you're looking for other options, there's also parking at Clarkston Halls and on nearby streets. Be careful parking on the main road as there's often wardens out.

2 reviews 11 hours ago-Edit…read moreVisited the garage on the 2/12/18 to get a puncture repair, tyre had a temporary plug fitted. Waited at the reception desk. The person who was doing the puncture asked me to go with him to the workshop area. Shows me the tyre and states, is that TURNBULLS work when he saw the plug fitted. I said no, i fitted the plug 6 months prior. He runs his fingers through loose rubber shavings and states the car has been running on its rim and the tyre is dangerous so cant fit a plug. I know the loose shavings came from me when i was repairing the tyre with a plug. The hole has to be roughened up prior to inserting the plug.. I had informed another member of staff to tell the guy working on the tyre (cant call him a fitter) to put 33 pounds pressure in the tyre. I had also said to Andrew (the owner) that i cant run a tyre flat, sensors warn me when pressure drops. When i started to reverse the rear left tyre warning light was on. The car can also tell me tyre pressures. front left which he had checked for leak also had 38 lbs a square inch, rear left had 26 lbs a square inch, not 33lbs as requested. The work and diagnostics was so sub standard that when i got home i blew a tyre up myself and deflated the other as the pressure was over excessive and checked all wheel nuts. Overexcessive pressure can cause an accident when cornering as theres less rubber on the road surface.Incidently i thought i would like to mention that i have worked as a mechanic most of my life and also done mots and furthermore my car only two day prior had just had its mot which passed. Can only assume there trying to sell extra tyres before xmas. My tyre which was only half worn could have been sold of as a part worn tyre which is a win win, well for them anyway, not me.. Felt it was a fairer business when Andrews father had it in the old place. DEFINATELY a bad experience for me. I will repair the tyre myself, another plug should do it. With tyre pressure being to high on the front left made the car dangerous when i left the garage. If the rear tyre was much less than it was (26 lbs) it could have come away from the rim when cornering. How hard is it to blow a tyre up to the correct pressure? UPDATE!--have checked front left tyre and at the plug repair , using a little water located small leak at plug (bubbles). Fitted another plug alongside and rechecked, leak stopped! on rear found a screw nail in tyre, removed screw with pliers and inserted plug, tested with water, no problem, all leaks repaired and pressure maintained. Would advise drivers to purchase a plug repair kit from e bay and a small electric pump from Home Bargains for a fiver and your independant.Majority of repairs can be done with the wheel on the car. Repairing a puncture is not a difficult job (well for most people). Abbotsinch would rather sell you a new tyre. Larger premises equates more rent to pay so sales staff must push tyre sales to generate the extra cash needed for the extra rent. If your female dont think about it. They will look at you as an easy target. Dont be tempted to get the tracking done either (another gimmick) 4x4 s climb mountains and dont require tracking reset. With reference to Jack Austins negative review whom i do not know i would like to point out that his review was inserted because he survived the accident. Dead people dont write reviews!

But Tuga Garage is a place you can be confident knowing that your car will be looked after to the highest possible standard! The chap that runs this place is Bruno, a friendly and talented mechanic from Portugal. I've only been using him for about 6 months and discovered the place after some darn right rotten experience with other local garages. Its taken me a while to find someone I can trust, but this is definitely a place I am happy to award a 5 star rating too. The big difference I have found with Tuga is the customer service. Work has always been done in a timely manner and Bruno communicates with you well, letting you know how much parts are gonna cost and when he expects the job to be finished. Also, its the most spotless and well organised garage I have ever seen, so for a neat freak like me, this gets extra brownie points in my book :) Although Bruno is a specialist with Peugeot and Citroen, he is more than capable with any other makes. Although I've only used Tuga Garage on a couple of occasions I have found the work to be extremely professional and very good value. It was a real find - a small, local garage which believes in good customer service and won't rip you off. The guys who work here are always really friendly - if you just stop for petrol they even come out and fill up your car for you and they're always up for a chat and a laugh. But where I find them invaluable is all the little problems I've had with my cars over the years (I've had very bad luck when it comes to car tyres!) and the fact that they've always been honest, reliable and incredibly good value for money. One time I had a flat tyre, it was just the tyre valve and they charged me £5 to fix it. Another time, I had a nail in my tyre, it cost £10 to fix it. Another time I hit a pothole and buckled my wheel - rather than sting me for a new wheel, they recommended a local reconditioning place that would knock it back into shape for £20, which saved me a fortune. Even when I did need a new tyre, they have really reasonable prices and a new tyre from here cost me £40 (this was about 5 years ago now) when National Tyres wanted to charge me £70. I have no doubt at all that this place will not rip you off or charge you for work that doesn't need done and I can't recommend them highly enough - I will now drive from Shawlands past at least half a dozen other garages to take my car here.
