My family photos, thrown in the trash and dug out of a dumpster
Julia D.

Because of some kind of miscommunication, my apartment was raided of all of my personal property, which was then destroyed. I needed one more day to remove my stuff from my apartment, which I confirmed with Daymond and Kelvin at the office. When I walked into my apartment to clean it today, I found that all of my remaining personal property was loaded into trash bags and thrown into a dumpster. Foxchase Apartments tore up artwork that my dead friend made me. They threw away precious family photos. Grown men picked up my used panties and threw them away. For the love of god, look elsewhere for a place to live unless you want your stuff to be destroyed.

I am giving 4 stars for my dealings with the leasing agents and community manager. I have had so many questions and they answer them within a good amount of time and have been extremely helpful in the process - s/o to Kaitlyn M. and Pragna! The property is nice and massive, each building seems to have its own vibe! I'm looking forward to living in this community.

So I reached out after being told they could help and basically I get the cooperate response of need to check into it after waiting 4 days for anything at all, basically it is called the run around,. So I was charged $95 twice and a so called professional cleaning after I cleaned, I paid rent on 5/1 /2020 covering Msy 2020 and was charged $95 from my deposit again, proof is in pictures added and pictures in previous comments explain cleaning. Long story short , Foxchade is very nice to get you in but LOOK OUT FOR YOUR EXIT FUNDS

I wake up this morning to three random men on my balcony "doing construction improvements" that allegedly are "not handled through foxchase but rather through corporate according to the community manager, Stephanie Hall. When we finally contacted Stephanie to inform her that we had three strangers with no gloves or protection on our balcony during a GLOBAL VIRAL PANDEMIC , she hung up on us. So on top of the fact that no notice was sent, and that once the property manager was contacted she hung up on us, we also were put at risk due to unnecessary, unprotected, exposure of catching a virus due to gross mishandling and coordinating of a COMMUNITY MANAGER. THOUSANDS OF LOVES COULD BE PUT AT RISK HERE. THOUSANDS. We have children, and many elderly in the community. They do not care. They see you as rent money and that is it. I am afraid to live here. They do not care. They really don't.

ROACHES!!!!!

I am NOT even fully moved in yet, and ALREADY this is a nightmare! It's been two weeks, I called emergency maintenance for this ROACH problem!!! I will be pursuing further action if this is not resolved ASAP!!!!! I expect management to call me to discuss.

Mice poop in the kitchen sink

UPDATED REVIEW: After posting my review about 13 days ago, I immediately got calls from management and maintenance. They did a more professional treatment (broke a wall in the living room and all) by a pest company. The pest people informed us that indeed there was a hole in the back of the dishwasher from where the mice were getting in and out and claimed to have fixed it completely. I think they said the problem was from the AC balcony door or whatever. The owner replied to my comment asking me to email them directly but made sure to state on his reply that I signed a contract and fees apply if I vacate early NO MATTER THE ISSUE. The first two days, everything seemed clear and up until now I have not seen any roaches. HOWEVER, now there seems to be ants coming out from the walls which never happened before. Every day I find mice poop on my counter and all over my closet and my room. I guess they covered one of the holes but as I mentioned it in my initial review, the building is COMPLETELY infested. Yesterday, I was in my bathroom and saw a little mice coming out of my wall (see pics of the corner hole) and saw that they are now INSIDE MY CLOSET. The issue is now worse because you can literally hear the mice running around the walls, the kitchen, everywhere. At this point, I'm sure I'm exposing my family to a health issue and there seems to not be a solution or middle ground. So PLEASE think twice before moving in here and if you are offered a building on IVERSON or HOWARD ST, just know what you are signing up for.

Also door constantly vandalized & destroyed.
Madeleine C.

This place is terrible! Loud neighbors. Stressful. I feel trapped and am miserable. I need to find a new place ASAP.

I can't attach videos so I took screenshots of our video and we have been dealing with pest control for a couple months now

Update: MILITARY DO NOT LIVE HERE. They are charging us $5000 with military orders. We've spoke to JAG and now we will have to go through the legal process on top of PCSing this month. Already a stressful time and now they want to give us a early termination fee with orders. Do not live here. They have a mice problem, walls are extremely thin you can hear everything, you can smell all the smells from all your neighbors. Mostly unpleasant smells. We have military orders and they are going to charge us to break our lease. People park in the parking spots when they aren't suppose to. They never tow. People don't pick up after their dog. Hot water is unreliable and no water pressure at all. Appliances are cheap. I could go on and on. Find somewhere else to live

This is the follow up text message. Caring and not pushy.

Ask the Community - Foxchase

Do they accept people with bad credit?

Hello Yachi! Renters may not have had previous evictions. In addition, factors including negative payment history, past or current bad debts, liens, bankruptcies or judgments can disqualify an applicant. -Wendy

Anyone still recommend (or not) this place? I sent an email and didn't get a response... Been looking for a two level apartment in the next 2 months... Any advice on this place would help

You'll probably have to go to the leasing office. Management hardly ever responds to emails, phone calls, etc. Wouldn't recommend Foxchase. The units are in terrible shape and they nickel and dime you with extra fees.

How bad is the parking situation in Foxchase, particularly the one off of Duke St?

Up front parking is free -its a public street. If u want to have a spot in the back (i believe its $20) w/o it beng reserved ($40), get there before 8pm & dont leave. Duke St (R turn onto Jordan) is about the same. Parking after 8? Ur hit or miss… Read more

I have to say, before renting here, it had been nearly 30 years since I last rented an apartment. I recall that it was considered sport to commiserate with other residents and lampoon ridiculous management policies and procedures. Not here. Everyone you'll encounter are total pros, and everyone works to make your experience at the Kingsley awesome. Communications from the Management office were, clear, lucid, and succinct. For large-scale work events in the building, like garage floor maintenance, communication was handled with deft and aplomb and informed residents of exactly what was going on when and what to expect. Charges against our security deposit on move-out were fair and reasonable. The good: The building itself is modern, beautiful, and meticulously maintained. The maintenance staff sees to it. The building is mostly occupied by professionals and never had an issue with late-night frat parties and carrying on. Everyone is generally respectful of living in a building with shared walls and ceilings/floors. But it is an apartment building with lots of other people, and you will hear some noises on occasion. The location is great too. There's a lot of new construction in North Old Town and I feel confident it will the place to be in Old Town over the next couple of years. The staff arrange lots of social events to meet your neighbors, and it was cool to meet and mingle. I met some very interesting folks there. It's Old Town, so in absolute numbers the rent seems high, but to be honest, I thought it represented good value for what you get in return. Your mileage may vary, depending on your perspective. Opportunities for improvement: One area to be aware of if you're a full-time bicycle commuter. Bicycle parking is tight, and losing a parking spot is common. This wouldn't be an issue with ample parking for bicycles. One bike cage is located right next to a parking spot, and if that spot is occupied, it can be difficult or impossible to get your bike in or out. That made that bike cage next to useless, in my opinion. I reached out to the Management office on more than one occasion to raise this issue, but never heard anything in return. This is a first-world problem, I suppose, but a more robust bike parking infrastructure would have helped quite a bit -- especially as this part of Alexandria is located near so much bicycling infrastructure and is a great place to be a full-time bike commuter. I give the Kingsley four stars, though, and can highly recommend it to anyone considering living here.

McNamara 3 reviews a minute ago NEW I've had an exceptionally positive experience renting an apartment at Manor House over the last two years and I would absolutely stay longer if I could. When I began my apartment search two years ago, I knew I wanted to live within a 10 min drive to the Pentagon and in a dog-friendly area so I started looking in the Arlington and Alexandria apartment communities. What I found were a lot of concrete high-rise apartments that felt austere and "rushed" in the construction and which all seemingly had a nightclub atmosphere within the building or immediately in the entry way; this was not for me or anything close to what I would want to come home to (even though I know home is wherever your dog is). I looked at about ten apartments before finding Manor House and then I knew right away this was where I wanted to live. Manor House is charming and cared for and elegant in a low-key way. Nestled in what feels like a private park, flowers and greenery abound and there are just three floors per building and only 7 or so apartments per floor. The effect of this is that the grounds and the complex provide a tranquil reprieve from the raucous hustle of standard DC area living. Additionally, the apartment is remarkably well-maintained both inside and out. I mentioned the park-like atmosphere: this is due to meticulous grounds-keepers that lay new sod and maintain beautiful flowers around every aspect of the property. Inside the common areas a daily housekeeping service comprised of some of the kindest people you'll ever meet around D.C. keeps these spaces immaculately clean (including right up to your front door). And then there's inside the apartments: From hardwood floors to ornate crown molding to custom built shelves, Manor House gets all the details right. I'll add to this that, when I walked into my apartment on the first day of my rental period, there was a large welcome basket that greeted me with a card signed by the management team alongside treats for my dog. . . Manor House understands that details make all of the difference. Of course, this quiet and immaculately maintained park-like apartment with hardwood floors and crown molding that gets the finer details and leaves gift baskets for me and my dog doesn't just happen. It's intentional and due to a combination of an extremely pro-active and responsive onsite management team (shout-out to Jeff, George, Latisha and now Loretta who have made living here so easy and comfortable) and attentive ownership who care about the comfort of their tenants and the quality of their property.

It has a lot of potential for homeowners who want to live in Old Town, without the high price tag of the new developments. The condos are very spacious and owners have invested a lot in renovating their own spaces. On the contrary, the RENTAL properties are outdated and overpriced. Landlords are kind of rude and greedy. They will raise your rent to pay for any increase in condo fee due to renovation projects that you will NOT enjoy it. Unless, you are planning to stay here for years. It is kind of sad to say goodbye to excellent residents that can't afford the rent anymore but landlord are cold and greedy. Most of the residents are 60 plus, so the vibe is very slow and quite.

This does however mean that in the spring & fall there will be a few days were you'll be either a bit hot or a bit chilly... but it wasn't bad. I had no bugs and no major building problems. I looked at a lot of "inexpensive" options in Alexandria, and this building stands in a category of cleanliness I literally couldn't find anywhere else I could afford. It might be the only small apartment tower in the city without weird-smelling hallways. There are laundry facilities on every floor, and aside from possibly Sunday night, it's never hard to find an open machine. *Occupants While I was there my floor was mostly occupied by young professionals who in typical fashion were nice, but too shy to ever offer more than a passing smile or quick hello (myself included). The door guys were always really cool and friendly. *Parking There's both indoor & outdoor lot parking (indoor spots are bought or rented) Street parking is not metered, but there is a maximum time limit of a few hours. Guest parking was never a problem. *Perks All residents get a free membership to Old Town Athletic Club http://www.yelp.com/biz/RhCjzk-wRfe2UfkAbeXTHg which is only a two minute walk away. The building's roof is open year round. Great for grilling, taking pictures, having dinner, or hosting a party. The view is spectacular. If you're having a party, I think there's a fee attached... I never tried, so I don't know the details. It's a great, if not amazing spot for a sweet romantic dinner for 2, especially if you can cook, be sweet, and are constrained by budget! Balconies! I highly recommend getting a unit with a balcony. They're just the right size to set up a bristo table for dinner & drinks. My spot on the 5th floor had a river view and I'll miss many a good night out there. There's public tennis courts are across the street, but they were full every time I thought to play. *Community I lived here with a car for 3 months and decided to get rid of it when I realized that I hadn't used it in a month... the neighborhood is totally walkable. King St is a 10 minute walk away, through a decent area. The Braddock Metro is 1/2 a mile away, but the last few blocks go through a project... I don't recommend walking alone at night. I saw 1 armed robbery and several beatings walking past the projects there. There's a giant , a Trader Joe's, liquor store, Blockbuster, and tons of restaurants extremely close by. Again, the neighborhood's safety is not bad unless you head out towards the Braddock Metro, and even that area seems to be getting a lot better. The area is QUIET. Nightlife needs to be metro'd to, unless you don't mind the local bars and tourist spots on King st. *Landlord If you're considering renting here I highly recommend renting from Jo Lynn Ricks (5 star landlord review!). As my landlord she was responsive, friendly, and possibly the only person I've ever rented from that fairly returned my security deposit. She can be reached at jricks@deloitte.com and owns at least a few units in the building. If you want to live alone, or are new to the area, Port Royal's a pretty safe bet. Living in a studio apartment has a lot of drawbacks, but finding better options on a budget in Old Town could take a lot of time.

I also appreciated that they were upfront and transparent about any issues that arose during the repairs, and they made sure to stay in contact with me and offered helpful suggestions for overcoming any repair barriers. The Zelaya team remained professional, courteous, and transparent, and completed the repairs on time and on budget. They truly are a company that is committed to customer service and ensuring that everyone is happy with the end result. I would not hesitate to hire them again the next time I am in need of repairs or renovations.
