Mark heard my call for help through the social grapevine, and invited me to use the NedSpace space--and, wow! Coziest media room with couches, tables, dimmable floor lamps and a projector + screen that could easily accommodate ~20, a board-room with gorgeous views of downtown from the 11th floor & an intuitive projector (monitor on the wall) setup, a small kitchen, and a little bar nook for hiding extra goodies. Fast internet. Miss Piggy and smilley-face mugs in the community kitchen. The regular folks renting who were there over the weekend, were so nice and accommodating, too. Just a very warm, cozy spot, downtown, welcoming at the last minute, clean, intentionally fun w/o the pretentious "disruptive innovation center!" vibe, but still setup to facilitate people getting work done and small events. Lots of conference rooms & workshopping areas. Definitely gonna be coming back here, more often! Oh, also? There's a garage in the building, so toting all my event stuff in and out, was a breeze. No other humans to coordinate with on the day-of, too--the building's security system is setup, such that a manager issues a temporary access code for the elevator, I usher everyone in and out (which for the size of my event was not a problem), and I packed-up after a post-event dinner break across the street.

There are awnings on both SW 5th Ave (faces City Hall) and SW 6th Ave. There are planter boxes with flowers at both entrances, which further perk up the outside a little bit. The yellow and green TriMet MAX lines stop outside this building. Inside, the building is pretty self-contained. You don't have to leave if you don't want to as there are a table service restaurant with full bar, Starbucks Coffee, two moderately priced lunch choices (Spicy Pickle, Steamers), a dry cleaner, a cobbler, H&R Block (seasonal), KeyBank, a sundry/convenience store, a florist, a barber a jeweler and a gift shop. Elevators are split into two bays and use a modern system instead of the old fashioned buttons inside the elevators. You select your floor via a touch screen or a key pad near the entry to the elevators. One bay goes to floors 3-14 and the other goes to floors 15-30. Note, the main lobby is already on level 2, the Starbucks and many of the shops are on a "lower lobby" level.

Seattle's Best Coffee is just one block down so I'm not sure what the appeal is? The elevators are fast and smooth as silk. The man at the front desk in the lobby is pleasant and helpful. The views are nice, there's a lot of construction downtown right now but it's still very pretty. Also only 4 blocks or so from Trimet so great for commuting. And they have a dry cleaner, a hair salon and a shoe shine/repair place in the lobby too. The also have a space for lease for a restaurant and I hope they get something good in there soon.

The staff are also particularly wonderful, and from Jamie and Renata I've felt nothing but warmth, encouragement and an eagerness to help me out. All of this is a huge improvement from the experience I've had at WeWork, and it makes coming to work each day a joy - far too often the comfort and relaxed atmosphere at Industrious leaves me forgetting I'm even at work! ;)

Staff gave me a quick tour of the space on the 10th floor and told me about the features. They also have the 9th and 11th floors. The decor is much nicer and has more of a vibe than a Regus, but isn't as cool as Kiln's. The Internet Wi-Fi was a symmetrical 30/30 Mbps, which is much slower than Kiln's 320, but plenty usable. The extended lobby where the hotdesk folks sit has numerous chairs and tables, the kitchen, morning and afternoon snacks, and loud music, which together don't make for the most hospitable working environment. There are two big windows overlooking Pioneer Courthouse Square, but the shades are drawn. There are just a couple telephone booths, and one quiet booth, on the 10th floor. Hotdesk membership is $400/mo, plus another $100/mo for national access. I greatly prefer Kiln: cheaper, better vibe, many more spaces to hang out, more features, outdoor patio, faster Internet, less noise, free parking, and equally nice staff.

Lots of electrical outlets that are intelligently placed on top of the tables, and the wifi was reliable. Kitchen was stocked with the usual coworking amenities. That is, water, coffee, basic tea, and some basic snacks. The day I was there, it was Kind bars and bananas. There are more snacks and drinks in a vending machine in the kitchen and for sale at the reception desk, including gigantic bars of chocolate(!) which are produced by one of the occupants. There's a frig to store things. Some minor issues to note: Tea service is very basic. I only saw one "telephone booth", though it doesn't seem too bad if you have a conversation out in the open area. The space was rather chilly and I had to put on my jacket and scarf. I recommend bringing layers. Lastly, the chairs in the general areas were not adjustable and didn't provide good lumbar support. An example of beauty over function here. I wish the interior designer/manager opted for more ergonomic chairs, as occupants are often there all day long. Overall, this space was great! Bathrooms: Clean and functional, and lovely.

There is limited information I can find about it. The first floor is occupied by Pastini ( a local pasta chain) upper floors are rented as office space. The Buildings exterior looks to be brick and white terra cotta. It features names and busts of famous composers. Wrapping around the building. The top is a slanted green roof with windows in dormers. The roof makes it a building that looks different then anything around it. There aren't a lot of sources but according to Wikipedia it was built in 1926 as the first artist studio building in Portland, the building originally was filled with rehearsal studios for musicians and actors. It was designed to be run along with the, now unused, Guild theater next door where the musicians and actors could perform in its recital hall. The restrooms for the Guild Theater were actually in the Studio building and the Guild's original entrance was through the Studio building.

I am a casual visitor to wework locations, just using their daily hot desk app. I sometimes do this…read morewhile traveling (to fit a day or two of work into a vacation), but my visit to this Portland location (where I live) was just to mix up my location a bit, and to have a place to work where I could meet up with some old friends downtown for happy hour easily after work. This wework is in a good downtown location, near Pioneer Square and the Standard Insurance buildings. It is 3 or 4 floors of an older building, with a rooftop deck. The primary floor for day users (12) is nice enough, with a good lobby and kitchen. The staff were very friendly at check-in, and gave me a quick tour. The work desks for hot desks were fairly limited (definitely most of the facility is dedicated conference rooms and offices), but it wasn't too busy on a Friday and I was able to setup with no problem. The chairs are not the most comfortable ever, but they were adequate. There are phone booths for taking zooms. I was a bit concerned there could be resource contention for these, but at least on my visit it was OK. There are some on different floors as well, so worst case scenario you might need to spend a few minutes before your zoom to track one down. The location does have plenty of windows looking out over downtown, though at least in the public areas the views are just of other downtown office towers. All-in-all, this is a fine option for an occasional place to work downtown. I don't think that the other large co-working facilities (Industrious, CENTRL) offer easy-to-use day passes, so this is one of the few choices for an occasional ad-hoc use.

Seemed like a chill place with other tech professionals; I'm a tech writer in SaaS and felt at home. Nice clean kitchen, well stocked. No shortage of coffee, tea, and other beverages. Cool rooftop deck. Cute, but claustrophobic, phone booths with lighting that cast shadows all over your face. You'd probably need a ring light to look okay on Zoom. Staff members were very friendly. When their sales team followed up with me, I asked several questions. Here are their answers copied straight from my email: "Q: Are there adjustable/ergonomic workstations, adjustable chairs, or standing desks available? I sat at a regular desk for a few hours last Wednesday while checking out the facility, and had neck pain for several days. This is a deciding factor. A: There are not. Q: Is there any secure storage available, or lockers? For example, a place to leave my laptop while I go out for lunch or a walk. A: There are not, but I'm sure the community team would be able to keep a bag behind their desk if you had to leave for a little while. Q: Is there a refrigerator where I can store my own food? A: Yes! Q: Do you have any more information about the gym located in the building? A: There is a gym but it would not be included with an All Access membership. (*This response didn't answer my question) Q: I heard a dog while I was visiting, what is the policy for animals? A: It is a pet friendly location, you're welcome to bring in your dog. Q: Does the community have a slack channel or similar, to communicate and connect? A: They do not." Ergonomics was the deal killer for me. The desk chairs in the shared coworking spaces are un-upholstered armless chairs that remind me of cold hospital lobbies. They're not actually what I would consider a "desk chair" at all. They're not adjustable in any way, and the desks didn't seem to be height adjustable either. I can't speak to what equipment is available in conference rooms or offices, because I simply don't remember what I saw on the tour. They may or may not have better ergonomic accommodations. Overall this place doesn't fit my needs due to unaddressed ergonomic hazards. I will continue on my search for coworking space elsewhere.
