Well, after reading Lynne M. review, I decided to visit the shop as I had a pressing problem, to get a chair restored. I contacted the proprietor by email first and sent photographs to see if anything could be done, and after an exchange of photographs, made my way up North to meet with him. A very pleasant man to talk to, he was amazed the chair was actually still in one piece after all the munching the woodworm gave it. I asked for a look around his premises and he duly obliged me the courtesy of showing me around and then allowing me to browse. I went upstairs, and as the Lynne had said, it was pricey but not expensive... it was good value for the state of the quality of the furniture up there. I know of a TV presenter who uses the phrase " cheap as chips" but the same presenter also states that one should always go for Quality as quality will out last "tat" any day and retain value, and that is what this shop represents,Quality, I think. exactly that, quality items, I don't think he sells any "tat". I was looking at the oil lamps, he probably bought them auction price, but they were restored to working order and refurbished to look like new.. what's wrong with that I ask you, I am tempted to go back and buy the lamps, but after the summer holidays... they are not cheap but they are worth it...it's the kind of shop that if you were starting a cafe for students, you would buy the prop's for your shop here, it would suit those little Boutique hotels that one finds on holiday in San Francisco, and if one likes these little boutique hotels, and those little side boards that make the place unique, well this is the place to look. Well, the saga is over for me, I received my chair yesterday and it has been restored to a way that compliments its age yet doesn't look like it was restored... it is picture perfect... it now holds pride of place in the sitting room and it is with thanks to Ian and his crew at Four winds antiques.. it cost a little bit more to restore but was worth it... the nice thing here is that it has credit card facilities and payment was made briskly, I had another pressing problem, another chair for him to restore!!! He just chuckled when he saw it and it was back to business again. Well, how much of a compliment is it if you go back again to same shop for restoration? Well worth going back for I'd say. read more
