The whole staff has repeatedly gone the extra mile to take care of our animals for both planned visits and emergencies. Every question or concern I've had has been addressed thoroughly. They've even taken extra time to answer questions from my kids and explain things. With our travels, we've seen our share of vets and this team ranks at the top. The staff here are very knowledgeable and friendly. They take excellent care of our dogs when boarded. They also vet our horses and goat. I get reminder cards concerning needed vaccines, etc. Wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

I took my dog (baby) into both vet clinics in mccook (Red willow and four winds) over a year ago because she was vomiting and had diarrhea she had been drinking massive amounts of water and urinating the same way. BOTH clinics ran ALL of their tests (at least that's what i was told) and said they found nothing physically wrong. I was charged a combined total of almost $600 I was told by RWAC that it was disorder that made her think she was thirstier than she was. I thought that was strange as i did not know they were qualified as a mental hospital!!!! A year goes by with her incredible thirst and then 2 weeks ago she started the vomiting and diarrhea again. Once again i load her in the car and take her to four winds animal clinic and again ALL the tests except this time he says that she is diabetic and he needs to get her started on insulin twice daily to level her out. He said it was a bit expensive but if we wanted he would start right then. i told him if he would work with us a little that i wanted to do everything we could as i have had her for 11 years and was more than willing to go as far as needed to save her. It ended up they only gave it toher once a day. a week later during a visit he said her kidneys were shutting down. I asked if they had kidney medications like they do for humans. He said they did but He had not had much luck with it. I told him to go ahead and try it AND whatever else he had. I even took two hours of my own time researching and writing down alternative treatments and medications. They acted like i was stupid for even suggesting it and maybe i was reaching out there but was willing to try anything . I may not be a vet but i think i could have done a better job than they did.FWAC got her glucose level down and we took her home for a couple of days and she was getting worse not better so I took her over and let the doctor at RWAC check her over.RWAC called back and said her body was filling up with poison due to kidney failure and her sugar was really low. This was a bit odd due to the fact that FWAC said it was almost 700 when i took her in the first time and she had not eaten. The vet at RWAC made some calls and asked some more questions and the doctor at FWAC told her he did not run ANY of the kidney medications. RWAC gave it one last shot by flushing her system with I.V. fluids and antibiotics. They started her on the kidney medication but it was too late the damage was done and they suggested i have her put down for her own sake.(I asked if she thought the kidney medication would have helped if given when this all started and she said it was a good possibility) i told them i would have to wait until i could talk to the kids. My wife called them back on December 31 and told them we would be in the morning of the January 2. to end her pain and suffering. I was and still am a wreck as i have had her (baby) for 11 years. We got up on the morning of the 2nd and slowly started to get ready for this appointment when the vet called from RWAC and informed us that my best friend had passed away peacefully about 7 that morning. I was absolutely livid and still am as i believe FOUR WINDS ANIMAL CLINIC killed my dog that meant the world to me simply by not caring. I wrote this in hopes that maybe it would keep someone else from losing an important part of their life due to incompetence. I am going to do everything i can to stop this from happening again. i do not understand how anyone could not do everything humanly possible to save the life of an animal someone loves. I am expecting a bill in the mail and will go "visit" them at that time to explain the fact that i took her in for treatment NOT to kill her. If they pursue it from there i guess we will see where that road leads. read more
