My house was on the market, and the buyer wanted a roof inspection and called High Point Roofing. I had no problem with the inspection and personally have over 40 years of construction experience. The report came back that there was one missing shingle, exposed nail heads on the ridge vent, rubber cracking on pipe vent, two popped nails on garage section, discoloration on front slop shingles and some granular loss as found in guttering (these repairs were simple and would take no more than one hour to repair). This 23-year-old roof expert concluded that the 30-year architectural shingle that was approximately 23 years old only had a "maximum of 1-2 Years Left of Life" and that the roof needed replaced (Notice the caps used to demand attention and generate fear). In all of my years of dealing with inspectors I have never had one offer such a precise life expectancy, only High Point Roofing. Needled to Say the Buyer wanted a new $20,000.00 roof at the Sellers expense. I'm perfectly fine with fixing problems when necessary and needed. In this case it was an egregious attempt to put on new roof that wasn't necessary. I called Antony Regalbuto one of the owners, about his inspector and report. He reported key problems that are often indicators of a roof in decline that an inspector would identify. He noted specifically that often such roofs have fiberglass exposed and bubbling shingles which can include moisture problems and/or poor ventilation in the attic. I agreed with him that both were indicators of a bad roof. I then asked Anthony, if his 23-year-old roof inspector identified in his report such failures and he was silent. He was silent because they didn't exist. In the end Anthony protected his employee. I'm sure Anthony will dispute my report and if so I have written documentation in hand to corroborate my statement. I also have a few billboards that I can offer caution and direct potential customers to another roofing company. I'm very disappointed with the High Point Roofing and a young man that tried for a big commission on my dime. At the time, I was actually surprised by the lack of investigation that was required to diagnose the issue but I didn't question it. My issue was partially fixed during this appointment, but unfortunately I did have to have another plumber come out to assess and they discovered there was a clogged. I think if more time was spent investigating the issue, I likely wouldn't of had to call on another plumber. I even mentioned that there had been water accumulating in the pan under my furnace, which I know can point to a clog.. but I felt this was somewhat ignored. Furthermore, I felt the owner of this company left me with really poor advice.. advising me to cover the return vent on my main level with a piece of cardboard, which was supposed to help cool down the upper level of my house quicker. He wasn't specific about how long to keep it covered, but I figured maybe 2 to 3 hours? Well after a couple hours my indoor ac unit starts making a terrible noise. At this point, I do some independent research only to discover that covering your return vent with a piece of cardboard is a terrible idea! So idk if the poor advice was with malicious intent and just out of ignorance. But that's my story.

I called Harriford Exterior Restoration, because they seemed to be the closest thing to any kind of roof service and located in the area. I talked to Brandon who laughed, when I explained my predicament and said in all his years he'd never had a call for removing something off a roof. He was very accommodating. Once he found out that I actually lived in the same neighborhood as him, I think he couldn't say no at that point. I asked him what a fair price would be, and we negotiated a number that both of us was happy with. After we made arrangements, my wife reminded me that we actually had some missing roof shingles. He removed the object off the neighbor's roof and repaired our roof according to his normal hourly rate. I am very impressed with Brandon's ability to be honest, helpful, flexible, and fair, even for something so trivial as getting something off the roof.
