They run a number of evening events such as line dancing etc, the bar offers very good value for money and this is what makes it a popular choice for parties. They can provide a buffet for an extra cost and you can organise your own DJ or live music, its a great little place with its own car park but is well within walking distance of the centre of Shifnal so is easy to get to.

The regulars in the bar area kept trying to get in our party, and congregated outside the door. They were threatening out guests, and even threatened me. When the managers were informed, they did little to help, and my guests had to stand on the door as security. What an absolute joke, nothing but a drug hole, which completely ruins the night.

This place is now known as The Robin 2 (I'm guessing due to a change of management or something?)…read more Prepare for some innuendo in this review! To enter the main music venue you have to go around the back (oh-er missus!) and apparently there's a bar next door, that you enter around the front! We didn't visit this part of the bar so I can't comment on it. There's a good size car park at the back, and it's free! It's one of those places where EVERYTHING is sticky (make your own joke there!!) Not just the dance floor but the walls, tables, seats etc. So try not to stay in one place for too long. I guess it's a good excuse to get dancing! They didn't have lots of seats so some people braved sitting on the floor. They may still be there now, stuck forever... They have a great line up of music acts, from tribute bands to proper bands, across lots of different music genres! I went to the Dames of Darkness festival, which was a two day event consisting of 15 female-fronted metal/rock/goth bands from all over the world. Well worth the money. On the Saturday the mike was a bit squeaky (did it need greasing up?!) but the sound was absolutely fine on the Sunday. They serve food all day and was I assured their vegetarian burger was suitable for vegans, but I had my doubts after trying one on the Saturday. The chips were very nice though. On the Sunday I confused the woman behind the bar by asking for chips and a plain bun. I had to explain that I wanted to make myself a chip butty! My friends said the pizza was good, and people seemed to constantly have their lips around pizza and wraps so they must've been tasty! The bar staff were friendly, despite it being very busy. In my tip, I mentioned napkins. People seemed to be constantly walking passed with these stuck to the bottom of their boots, I found it rather amusing! The toilets are upstairs. The stairs are also sticky, making it seem like a mountain hike to get to the top! (there is a disabled toilet downstairs). The ladies toilets stayed fairly clean the whole day/evening and for some reason they reminded me of secondary school toilets. There's plenty of them and I never needed to queue. I'd definitely go back here. It's not an outstanding venue but if a band you like are playing then GO!

I remember going to the old Robin back in the early 90's and not much has changed since then…read more The Robin always seems to have decent acts, both domestic and imported. Some of the names that have played here are amazing. Then... they let me on the stage. What were they thinking? So, the sound was very good - tending to lean toward a "Rockier" sound due to the dimensions of the room. It is a little bit of a "sticky-floor" type venue, but without a doubt has plenty of guts and integrity in it's credentials. One point that I will speak of was the food that we were served. I am not sure if the band food is from a menu that is on offer at The Robin, but it was first-class and home cooked. I went for the lamb shank and it was fantastic. All in all a great venue with some brilliant acts on the roster. I will look forward to returning whether it be onstage or off. A little Robin video footage of my night there below... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPUu1glhGRw

I have been coming here for literally years now. In my early student days a very young me would be down the front of the gig room getting sweaty to a mates band, when I visit now however it is much more if a civilised affair usually with food on the terrace or a pint downstairs. Its great to see so much still going on here, the venue still has strong following and keeps providing young Birmingham acts and bands with a stage to play on. Well done Actress & Bishop!

Recently(ish) they sorted out the rather tired looking decking out the front and refurbed inside as well. Unfortunately in doing so it seems to have lost some of the charms it previously had. They've reduced the amount of seating downstairs which is probably great when it's really busy on a weekend but during the week (which is the only time I ever go) it leaves the whole place looking rather sparse. Being an ale fan I have been continually disappointed as the ales have always been off when I've been in (along with most of the better lagers as well). I can understand the intention behind the refurb as the area round St. Pauls is a little more upmarket but in sprucing the place up and removing the dive bar aesthetic they seem to have also removed the soul of the venue. Although, the Monday night quiz is well worth a go!

Harborne Club was established in 1900, and although it has been going for nearly 115 years, it…read morestill remains one of Harborne's best-kept secrets. The club that was founded in 1900, replaced the Harborne Conservative Club, that had sat on the same site. Although the new club is omitted from political allegiance, it continued to serve the white-collar workers of the city. Doctors, and Lawyers would return from work on the train and right outside Harborne Station (on Station Road) is the Harborne Club. The station has now long gone thanks to Dr Beeching and the old line now serves as a lovely walkway, one of the best in the city. The club received the nickname 'The Glue Pot', as the local gentry found once there, it was rather difficult to leave - the old "just one more pint" syndrome. Walking down Albany Road one can be forgiven for walking past without knowing where it is. Indeed I walked past the club everyday for months before I knew it was there. Its unimposing entrance appears more like a private home than a (albeit members) club and bar. The only sign of where it is, are the cellar doors and the fairly recent addition of a rather small gold plaque on the door. The curtains are constantly closed so you won't see any sign of activity from the street. Just push the door open and walk right in. Although it is a private members club (charging £70 a year), you can sign in as a guest, as long as you don't use this privilege too frequently. They have two regularly changing ales on the bar. Both of which are well kept making the Harborne Club a regular in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide. As it's a private members club, the drinks are subsidised making it a cheaper alternative than other Harborne drinking houses. The clientele is still edging towards the conservative. Although they accept female members in their own right, rather than just as 'partners'. One gets the impression that this is a fairly recent change in the rules. Swearing is a big no, no! On a few occasions I have taken friends in their only to suddenly realise what a potty mouth an acquaintance has when they repeatedly get told off by the locals. Although I do get the impressions of the locals to be right-wing in a posh stiff-upper-lip sense, I find that there is plenty more racism, sexism, xenophobia and homophobia spouted in the 'Sun readers' pubs (for want of a better phrase). I do find the locals to be pleasant on the hole; you just need to remember that it's their club and their rules. There are two competition size snooker tables upstairs. I've never played on them, but I have had a look at them a couple of times. The toilets are some of the most immaculate toilets in a bar you'll ever see. They hold talks about different subjects once a month and non-members are free to attend for £3 (see http://www.theharborneclub.co.uk/download/TalksProgramme2014-15.jpg for latest programme). I recommend having a look inside the Harborne Club, as it's completely different from any of the other 'drinking environments' on the 'Harborne Mile'. Just bare in mind that its more the place for a quiet pint than a rowdy night out.
