I am from Hawaii. The sushi there 4 inches in diameter. The sushi here? I could NOT TASTE the rice win vinegar in the rice. The rice was bland with some type of fish on it, which tasted very fishy. Then there was a slice of lime thrown on it there they called it a Colada? YUCK! This is what it tasted like to me... bland rice with fishy tasting fish and I could see the lime but couldn't taste it. I stomached 3 but couldn't take it anymore. I seriously was sick. I returned the item. My fiancé had shrimp alfredo I think? What it tasted like to me... bland beef soup and was very greasy, th8n and runny. It had 3 pieces of shrimp in it & for the price? Heavens no! We will not go back there. Shaen mentioned this to the Manager and he told is every business establishment makes alfredo sauce differently and that is the way they make theirs. I was shocked. Also, the size of the sushi? It was 1 1/2" in diameter compared to the sushi in China Town, Oahu, 4". Nope NOT going here again. Management was nice when the meal was late and my fiancé got 2 additional drinks on the house per the Management because our food took so long BUT when we returned our meals, we were changed for the 2 additional drinks. Very rude!!! The atmosphere was beautiful but I noticed an Middle Eastern Indian couple with their daughter, had been waiting for a long time for their food. We were getting ready to leave when the manager said our meal was ready. So wait time was much too long. Approximately 20 minutes and my fiancé ordered a drink, which he never got before our meal arrived. One would think he would've gotten it first but nope. It came out with the meal. We went on a Friday night with reservations and the restaurant was not packed at all so I say its safe not to call ahead to rsvp. I tried several types of sushi and they were all delicious. There is an extensive sushi roll list and the potstickers were also very good. Definitely some of the best sushi I have had in Indy. However, I did not enjoy my entree. The portion size was decent but my mashed potatoes were lumpy, and it was swimming in the salty bourbon glazed sauce from the salmon. I went to celebrate my birthday with my friends, I've been there once before a year ago, and I loved it, going back last night was just as awesome as it was last year. The only difference was that they no longer have half off sushi. We tried the three different rolls, the Salmon Diablo, Rock n Roll, and Playboy, all amazing, all so flavorful and beautifully presented. We got a drink, I don't remember it's name, but it had jalapeño in it, and we had a rose pedal mixed drink, if I'm being honest, they tasted watered down and didn't have much of a flavor, which is why I'm giving 4 stars. Our server was very nice, super attentive, and made he made sure to take care of all of our question, lastly, I was surprised that it was not as packed as I had seen it once before, which was nice, I felt like the atmosphere was super chill, more relaxed. The scampi was super filling--plenty of shrimp and perfectly cooked pasta--and the drink was strong but really tasty (definitely recommend if you like fruity cocktails with a little kick--and a yummy sugary rim). i also had the french 45 and that was super strong and on the brut side if you like that kind of thing. We stopped by here on Friday night around 10 PM and were quickly seated. Fortunately, we didn't need to make any reservations, but I do recommend it if you come to normal service. Our server was kind and gave his own recommendations. We had our water refilled often as well. The drinks we received were a Mojito and Sex on the Ave (not pictured). We ended up getting a Dynamite and Playboy Roll. The experience for the Playboy Roll was pretty interesting being provided a foil-wrapped sushi log and then being lit on fire. The sushi was a little expensive and we were also informed that the crab was imitation crab, which I guess is to be expected. The sushi was pretty standard but still good. There were a nice variety of items. We ordered a brownie (no picture, unfortunately) for dessert as well. Being new to Indy, our server was gracious enough to provide us with recommendations of places to check out in the area. Came here with a friend and I forgot how much I actually loved this place in college! I ordered a salmon roll and vegetable egg rolls and both items were delicious. First time at FourtyFive Degrees. Tonight was Dining Out For Life The food was excelent. I made reservations and that was a good thing. They got super busy. We were sat and the bartender came over and told us somone at the bar wanted to buy us a drink. We got a French Martini and a Mojito. We were able to thank the nice lady that did that. I ordered Crab Rangoons and a Ceasar Salad. The salad was ok. The Crab Rangoons were some of the best I've had. Entree was Beef and Broccoli. It was also really good. But a bit spicy. Husband got Ceasar Salad and Teriyaki Chicken. He was the same with the salad, just ok. He liked the Teriyaki Chicken. Dessert I ordered Tiramisu. Turned out they didn't have any but the server brought me out the new desert of the day. It looked like a Flourless Chocolate Cake. It wasn't thank goodness. Pretty solid option if you're looking for a downtown sushi restaurant. Their menu is a bit heavy on the cream cheese rolls and rolls that use asparagus so if either of those is up your alley this is a good spot for you. Sunday is 1/2 price Sushi Day so we decided to skip cooking and head here for dinner. I know since it's discounted it can get crowded so we arrived at 6pm in hopes to avoid a long wait. Nope, it was already packed. We waited about 20 minutes. There isn't much room inside to wait but luckily it wasn't too cold outside and there are two benches right outside the door. Once seated we were greeted right away by our server that took our drink order. Not only do they have 1/2 sushi they also have several drink specials for $6 each. One thing about the 1/2 sushi, you have to order a beverage and you can't take it to go. We ordered the Edamame, two side salads, a salmon roll and a playboy roll. All very good. As I mentioned it's very packed on most Sundays but the vibe is cool. A diverse group of people, some on date nights, others look like girls night out, random groups of what looked like friends. Just a nice mixture. They also have several TVs which were showing football games. They were also playing music lately where you could still hear your conversation and the music was just in the background. It sounded like like pop music if I remember correctly. I ordered the calamari - very good and comes with both rings and small squid but all very breaded if appearance bothers you. You get two sauces, one tastes like a cocktail and the other a spicy Mayo. I also got the crab Rangoon which come in 5 pieces with a spicy chili sauce. These may be small but are packed full of fine crab and they were my favorite! I also ordered orange chicken which is very citrusy over a bed of rice and a little broccoli. For sushi I tried the 45 rolls which is fully cooked with minced crab- basically a California roll- very good. And I also had the tsunami which is also cooked with shrimp and deep fried. Gotta love this place. The interior and ambiance is phenomenal here. Simply a very pretty restaurant. Too bad it's too cold this time of year to take advantage of the little patio. Steven, our waiter was a pure delight. Not only was he very efficient and kept our water glasses filled, he also kept the drinks coming, plates cleared, separate checks accurate and all that with a smile seemingly enjoying his job. So rare nowadays. Kudos to Steven. Let's get to the reason we came here in the first place: Food and Drink. I like Thursdays because I am a craft cocktail kinda gal and those are half off on Thursdays. I thoroughly enjoyed my French 45 (luv the play on the restaurant name). It was delicious, a bit sweeter than usual, but it's one of those drinks that seems so innocent but does pack a little punch. Also a good spot for mules, as they come in a huge variety of flavors here and my guest definitely enjoyed quite a few of those. One of my favorite things here is the tomato jalapeno soup. I would love to have an entire bucket of this. It is a very rich creamy tomato soup but with just a little bite. Not spicy hot, but just a real debt of flavor, so much more than a 'regular' tomato soup (which to me is boring). The soup comes topped with bits of feta which add so much to the flavor. And let's not forget the tortilla strip, because that little bit of crunch just enriches the whole mouth experience. I tried the Indy roll this visit and was surprised at the size of the pieces. Even with my big mouth I had a little trouble stuffing that in my mouth. so worth it though. Not only is it incredibly pretty (as all their food), but so very tasty. You have the sweet sauce counteracting the spice of the jalapeno. The fish plays very well with those flavors. Nicely done chef. The ginger salad was another item my guests raved about. Apparently the best ever. On the other hand, the miso soup received a mere "meh", but I don't like miso soup, so this is hearsay only. Food is good, but service is subpar. Make sure you never order through DoorDash. I came to pick up and the host said they didn't have the order and offered no solution. Manager called me over and said they didn't have it and it was showing cancelled. I reached out to DoorDash support to ask if they could reorder when the host said they never received it (was a lie) and they cancelled. On the tabled it showed the cancellation time and it was one minute prior from current time, but manager said he couldn't t see when it was cancelled and quickly switched to another customers order. I asked if there was a reason it hadn't been started and the manager said he had no idea and I should order by calling because DoorDash takes 30%. No apology or urgency Sushi is pretty solid for downtown Indy. Gotta throw in a star for this and some great lunch specials! read more

Our waitress however was sweet, attentive, and always nearby despite a packed dining room. She could not have been lovelier. Cocktails: The French 45 was a 5 out of 5 whereas the too sweet Cosmopolitan was a 4 out of 5. Appetizer: The Crab Rangoon was a disappointing 0 out of 5. These are sad, sad little fried things that frustratingly do not do the Crab Rangoon name any justice. Sushi rolls: All of the rolls we had were 5 out of 5. They were all fresh and delicious. We even ordered a second round. Shout out to the Corona roll; we were hesitant to order it, but it was the best one. Overall, a happening spot in Indy. TLDR: Mediocre service, outdated late 90s decor, sweet drinks, frozen potstickers, and "meh" sushi at this old stand by on Mass Ave. Not returning anytime soon without a major revamp. I was staying near Mass Ave and craved sushi. Decided to try FortyFive Degrees. I lived in the area for a decade and never came here as it always had OK ratings in comparison to other, higher quality sushi restaurants in the city. But, I was on foot, exhausted after a long 24 hours, and it was pride so I wandered over for sushi and people watching. The woman who greeted me at the restaurant quickly declared she was just a placeholder for the host and he'd be right back. No smile to welcome patrons. He did show up, and I was sat at the bar alone (I asked to be so). The restaurant is very late 1990s/early 2000s and needs an update. It looks like it's attempting to be a clubby cocktail bar meets Asian Fusion restaurant/bar one would find in Miami 20 years ago. Bartender was friendly, but, she cared more about entertaining regular customers than new diners. She'd often hold food or drinks for guests in her hands for up to a minute while talking to other customers, delaying delivery. Also little to no care about the presentation of the food when playing it down at one's table. Practically tossing it down or handing it directly to the patron. I ordered the French 75 and I only drank half of it. It was not a traditional French 75. It was made with a sickly sweet syrup or sparkling wine that made it taste like hummingbird juice. I could not finish it and was too tired to send it back. I had pot stickers which must have been from their food distributor. They were overcooked and tasted like the kind I buy at Trader Joe's but not as good because they were over cooked. The shrimp tempura roll was adapted without cucumber for me, which was nice. It was OK. Pretty boring - the sauce lacked any spices and the roll was just ok. Nothing life changing. I give two stars due to the lack of attention to detail by the staff, the gross cocktail, crappy potstickers, and outdated vibe. Given this review won't have much influence - the place was busy and seems to have no shortage of customers to eat mediocre food and experience service that prioritizes regulars and ignores potential future regulars. This was quite disappointing as that is the only reason I came. I still ordered Spider roll but it didn't taste as good as it usually does and didn't have nearly the flavor it usually does. I also had the potstickers and those weren't great either and didn't taste freshly made. I also tried the cinnamon roll that I've never had before and didn't realize it was just the soy wrap with ice cream in it and not a lot of flavor either. I have never been this disappointed coming here. The service was excellent and we had a great waiter. I will probably give them another shot because I've never had this kind of experience here but I really am disappointed about the lack of the special and the flavor of the food.
