Happened upon this brand new storefront on the main (and only) store and restaurant street of…read moreEastport, after doing a whale spotting excursion. The glass window storefront is still being renovated, but the interior is chuck full of extremely well curated, unusual and lovely antiques, of all varieties and styles. Eastport has a long history of being a leading fishing port of Maine. As with many towns of that nature, modern times have caught up with and passed them by, so the town has adapted to accommodate seasonal tourism, both from land and sea. With a very deep water port, it allows enormous cruise ships to dock every week and disgorge untold amounts of passengers for the day, to shop, eat and go on whale watching and other excursions while here for the day. We drove here for a whale watching tour and after landing Moby Dick, we caroused through the town and ended up here. As mentioned the variety of antique objects is extensive, from Meiji to mid century Japanese, mid century Americana, Japonisme, British, French, etc etc, including dinnerware, decorative, pottery, kitchenware, paintings, objets d'art, etc. And the prices abd quality are excellent as well, easily bettering contemporary products. The owner, Liz, has spent years amassing her collections and after selling online finally landed the storefront she'd been waiting for. I persuaded my friend to keep adding to her growing pile of finds, until the owner was laughing at my sales ability and my friend's difficulty in refraining from adding to her treasure trove. If you ever make it to Eastport be sure to come here. Even if you don't think you need or want some outstanding antique wares, I guarantee you won't walk out empty handed. So much better than shopping online for pale imitations.

'Charlie's Barn' was there for YEARS full of books before we were lucky enough for Jim to buy it and continue it's stewardship, the posts that used to hold the 'Chalie's Barn' sign are still there in the corner of the barn that was so much part of my childhood from the 60's.
