Dined in last night with my friend. When we walked in upon arrival the lady, maybe owner? Pointed to our seats in a shouting manner. For starters, that already made me feel some type of way. As we were done eating, the male waiter, which I am also assuming is the owner also. Did not attend to us, ignored us when my friend tried to get his attention. Family and I went there several times when we lived in wisconsin, usually once a month or so, which is almost 100 times when we lived there. We always got Shrimp, Squid and Fish Combination and Beef Tenderloin, occasionally the Spicy fish and Vegetable. I really need to listen to my own advice and make sure that I order off the Chinese menu at a place that is known for it. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and dining by myself and I chose the American menu. Let me be honest that the American menu just isn't good at all. You get a ton of food for the money but none of it is that tasty. The rice was served in chunks and the food just really didn't have much flavor. You MUST order off the Chinese menu to get good food here which is what I typically order here. Fortune gets four stars based on their Chinese menu and two stars for the American one. If you want good Americanized Chinese hit up Yen Ching don't do it here. I purchased a vegetable and tofu dish, at the drive-thru window, traveled 30-minutes home, then discovered that the dish contained vegetables-only, no protein. When I called to report my concern to the restaurant manager, he said, "We don't want your business"! I offered to bring the dish back, and he repeated, "We don't want your business- don't come here!" I drive past here all the time and decided to give it a shot. I ordered the steamed chicken with veggies, the Singapore noodles, and the chiu chow dim sum. I ordered the chicken a medium spice level, but I couldn't even taste a hint of spice. The chicken was bland, and the only veggie in it was bok choy. The to go container was 1/4 filled with broth (?), which had some flavor but more salt than anything. Singapore noodles were alright. Good amount of meat (shrimp and pork), and spices, however some of my shrimp still had shells on, and other shrimp didn't look cleaned properly. I picked around it. Dim sum wasn't good. I was told they were great here, but they were all broken apart, and had a very strong fishy odor. They were pricy in comparison to other local Chinese restaurants, and don't offer combo platters (or at least not on a Sunday). I was really disappointed, but now know to stick with the places I know. I spoke with the restaurant about my issues, and the manager explained they only have bok choy with their chicken (no other veggies- couldn't probably be updated on their site to reflect correctly). Growing up in New Berlin, Fortune was the go to place for Chinese food without having to go to Chicago (or other major cities that have a Chinatown....or China). Make sure you get the red menu because that menu is the more authentic menu (don't worry, it's in Chinese but has English translation). The green menu is more Americanized - although there are some things on the green menu I would order (ssshhhh....don't tell anyone!) The food is served family style (if you order from the red menu). I always get the salt & pepper shrimp because it's my favorite - that's the only way I eat shrimp. If you have a large enough party, you will get a table with a lazy Susan, which is helpful because then you don't have to pass the dishes around to get to your favorite(s). I just moved to the area and always try to shop small business rather than a chain, but I'd say save your money and go to Panda Express. I ordered General Tso's chicken, chicken lo mein, wonton soup, and chicken fried rice and my total was 42.00 dollars. I feel like that is a lot, but if the food is good I was willing to pay. This food was really bad. Our General Tsos chicken was so gooey you could hardly cut it, and the sauce tasted way to similar to BBQ sauce. The lo mein consisted of dry angel hair pasta noodles with steamed vegetables and no sauce or spice. The wonton soup wreaked of old smelling cabbage, and for the chicken fried rice to taste good you would have to douse it with soy sauce. Be careful with the crab Rangoon, the cheese inside is piping hot and we scalded our tongues so warn your kids! The presentation of the food was well done and the place is relatively new and clean. Why the 3 start rating? Well, it was quite expensive. For 3 meals and one appetizer, with tax and tip, it came out to about $49. In fact, the Chinese broccoli was $10.95. We may come back but I'm sure there are other places that may provide a less expensive lunch. So there you have it, great food, service and presentation, however, expect to pay a bit more. read more

The dumplings were gooey and slimy and broke apart when we picked them up with chopsticks. Again, bland. No flavour. Very disappointing. More like it dirty water. We also noticed that when we went to pay the bill, the gratuity was already added on the bill. I know some places do that, but some may not notice and leave another tip on the table before leaving. I made a reservation at 6:30pm, when I got there, there was no one greeting me after I waited 20 minutes. Then I stopped one of the waitress and ask her " could you help me to find my table, I had a reservation." The waitress just looked at me, cold and arrogant : "so what, I still have no table for you. It means nothing to me that you made a reservation. Wait or leave, up to you!" I was so embarrassed in front of my clients. As a Chinese, I have to say, these people are way to rude in any culture. Remaining at the door a few moments after entering, eventually the gentleman speaking on the phone at the Host counter rudely gestured and without saying a word from that distance, pointed for us to select our own table. From their great soups like their Seafood Hot & Sour, Crispy Skin Chicken (1/2), Braised Tofu & Vegetable, Yung Chow Chow Mein, Salt and Pepper Squid with Sea salt, there's something for all tastes. One caveat: Service = Not good. Not good at all. They'll ignore you, leave you at your table what seems like endless amounts of time, try to take your order as fast as they possibly can, order you to get out of the way if you're sitting in their path, then retreat to the kitchen to work their magic. Fortune is the best Chinese restaurant in the Milwaukee area or maybe the best in Wisconsin. I live in Madison and I will drive there for food. I'm referring to their Authentic Chinese food, not the American Chinese, have never tried like General Tso chicken, so don't quote me on that. Their food is juicy and the flavor is fantastic. From my experience, a lot of Chinese restaurant in the U.S tend to serve spicy food because the spicy flavor is easy to make and it won't go wrong. However fortune has many Cantonese style dish which requires more sophisticated skills on the flavor part and it turns out they are really good at it. I rate fortune 12 out of 10 and it a must go place if you want authentic Chinese food in Wisconsin. read more
