This is by far the worst experience we have had at a dentist office. Brought my minor teenage child there and they had her sign documents while I was out of the room, etc. . . even after explaining she is a minor at least three times. Very unprofessional, no one explained the treatment plan, did not explain they were going to take X-rays. It was uncertain who the dental hygienist was because there were two. The dentist, although friendly, did not explain what she saw with the X-Ray, did not discuss wisdom teeth although she mentioned Invisalign but let the very inexperienced dental hygienist "explain" it. Very pushy on fluoride and Invisalign. Our previous dentist never mentioned either and we only switched due to the drive time. They did not ask if her teeth hurt or anything. I went in for fillings and unfortunately had an uncomfortable experience. Both the hygienist and dentist brought up religion and personal beliefs, even after I made it clear that I'm not religious, all while gospel music played on the TV. I didn't feel respected when I expressed that I was in pain during drilling and was told to "handle what I can." (Though I did still receive more anesthetic, they tried to immediately drill after the shot) In addition, some of the fillings were not properly smoothed and still have sharp spots. I started going to this office in 2023 when I first moved to the area because unfortunately I had developed an abcess and my previous dentist was all the way in Sarasota off of Bee Ridge Road and the drive was too far. I went to Dr. Lee and he was very nice and was able to help me with my abscessed tooth. Then he proceeded to remove a tooth and to this day two years later I'm still toothless because he never told me what to do afterwards. In the meantime, I went to him, and I had a full exam, they took x-rays & an ultrasound of my mouth and proceeded to say I needed some cavities filled, and also a new crown on the bottom left corner of my mouth. I had that done at the beginning of 2024 and even now up until recently I was still having pain, even though I had a root canal done as well. I had to go back four times to get the crown shaved down and the bite adjusted. I was still having hot and cold food sensitivities. I now have to go to a new dentist and get a whole new crown for which I will have to pay out-of-pocket because the insurance does not cover another crown on the same tooth. Now Dr. Lee's office decides to say that I owe them $35.20 and sent it to collections. I now owe $44.00 after added fees. I am not paying this bill because the dentist never helped me. I told him I believed the crown was too big and needed to have another crown made because I couldn't even floss properly on that tooth. So instead of him trying to fix my issue, I have go to a different dentist & pay more money. So no I am not paying them one penny & they can take me to court if they want to over $35.20 which they will never see. I suggest you do not go here unless you want to have issues with your teeth as well. read more

I spent $10,000 to get my six front teeth crowned because i got two of them crowned and they told me that they would not match the rest of my teeth. Doctor Lee proceeded to shave down my bottom teeth Because the crowns that he gave me would hit my bottom teeth. I currently have a lawyer. Please do not see him at all. I was excited at first with the look of my smile, but now I cannot chew or bite down on anything and my mother went there for initial cleaning and I tried to charge her $600. She went to a different dentist and they told her her teeth were perfect and they charged her $80 for regular cleaning. they scam you and try to get you to spend as much money as you can. That being said, we all know too well that going to the dentist may not be a favorable or fun experience but to be scolded, belittled, and spoken to in such a condescending manner by Kelly the Hygienist (not to mention the eye rolls and exasperating deep sighs while looking in my mouth), was extremely unprofessional and completely unnecessary. My wife and I have come here since moving to Parrish October 2021. Always like it here even though I feel they over charge on everything. I knew I had periodontal disease and need to address it. First of all, I always seem to wind up with a new hygienist every time. Today was no exception. It was the quickest teeth cleaning I ever received. She said we are doing fluoride and screen for cancer. I said no to fluoride and how much for cancer screening? I was told $60+. What do you do? I feel for lumps and visually look for lesions. Cost are way out of hand. I was told next time I come I need a "deep cleaning" cost breakdown will be $1,896. That is Eighteen Hundred and Ninety Six Dollars for "their" treatment, not googles nor how much I have been charged before for deep cleaning. Anyway, we will be moving on. First of all, Dr. Lee and every hygienist I've had are fabulous here! My complaint is with the business manager and their "corporate office"...this is not a locally owned practice. My problem began unbeknownst to me when my dental insurance unexpectedly paid for two crowns after the procedure was completed, and I was given a $2,400 + bill. Over $1,150 was paid by my dental insurance without telling me after I paid my bill in full out of pocket. Nobody acknowledged this... and I received no statement regarding my account. A hygienist let me know, after a year, asking why I was keeping money "on account " with the office? Who keeps money on account with a dentist? For almost 2 years? This is Grand Theft, IMO. Subsequently, been trying to get a refund for the past 6 months to no avail. Was assured that, "we will call when it'sready and load the refund back to your debit/account. Never happened. I've never experienced the amount of pain and rough treatment like Fort Hammer dental. The staff is rude, the first dental assistant was unprofessional and at least two dentists sat in. As soon as they find out what your dental coverage is they're running up the bill. After finally putting the permanent crown on they started the upsell, which I declined. In 70 + years I've done my time in the dental chair but nothing came close to the lack of professional care I experienced there. When I left one of the staff was discussing, in detail, her rough night due to some bad food she ate. You know you're in trouble when they constantly apologize, telling you it's going to hurt. In conclusion, if you like pain, abuse, and a big bill, you'll love them. The exception to this experience was the Afro American dental assistant who cared about the outcome. read more

I have been going to Fort Hammer for 3 years. After reading the negative reviews I didn't think it was the same practice ? As regards to the add ons, during a routine cleaning I am told that is my call not theirs. The only major problem I have had are two crowns that failed (done at another dentistry). The first one just fell off. Was told is was not possible to recrown the tooth. I was given 3 options and I decided to have an implant. The 2nd time the crown was falling apart. I am having it recrowned. In both cases I was seen by the denist within 24 hrs of calling. I have never had a problem with their friendly staff. read more

I am a new patient of Dr. Lee at Fort Hamer Dental Care in Parrish. I moved to Florida 2 years ago, and put off finding a new dentist because of my nerves. I recently received 2 Crowns, replaced old fillings, and Dr Lee fixed my receding gum line. I was amazed at how calm I felt throughout the procedure. Really not sure about this place. There seemed to be a repetitive pattern on Google of over charges and treatments pushed on patients that are not needed. Alot of people said they needed to seek a 2nd opinion after being told they needed alot of work....when their previous dentist only 6 months ago, did not even hint at work needing to be done. Then all of a sudden they need 4 filings and a crown etc.. Same thing happened to me and although some of the staff seemed nice, it doesn't feel good if you don't trust what they tell you. My dentist 6 months ago in another State said my teeth looked great and nothing was needed. Then all of a sudden I have several filings and repair work apparently needed. Exams take wayyy too long and if you booked for first time cleaning as a new patient, chances are you will have to go back for that as the exams take up all the time. My wife and I have been patients at this office for around three years. The staff at this office is unprofessional to say the least. We have had nothing but headaches with them. Here are a few of the grievances: 1) They one time billed me for someone else service. I had to make several calls to get them to fix it and refund my money. 2) They kept sending billing emails to my wife asking instead of me. I repeatedly asked them to correct my information and they failed l to do so. 3) My wife has her own separate insurance coverage yet they continually bill her under my policy on which she is not covered. We provi her ins information repeatedly yet they have not corrected it. 4) Most recently they called me the day before my scheduled appointment for a cleaning to confirm that my insurance was still the same. When I arrived the next morning for my appointment they told me it was going to cost me $500. When I asked why they said I had no insurance. I am fully covered with United Healthcare. Once they confirmed I had coverage they dr the costs to $175. They wanted to add a bunch of stuff that I did not need so they could deliberately over bill my insurance. I only wanted a cleaning. I refused service and left. 5) My wife recently got a bill from them for $100. She always pays in full when we she goes for service. We went to the office to find out what the bill was for. She was treated rudely by the front desk personnel. This is by far the worst dental office we have ever experienced. They push unnecessary treatments and overfill the insurance companies. I was grossly overcharged, and my Flex Spending caught it by making me look up the explanation of benefits so they can approve and release the hold on my card. We then found out that they billed my insurance for work that was not done, so the insurance company needed to be reimbursed for that in addition to refunding me hundreds of dollars. The dentist himself was OK, one assistant was very sweet but I felt that one of the hygienists condescending (she didn't work on me). They also charged extra for a deeper cleaning and no other dentist ever did that before. And it was no different that other cleanings I had that didn't change extra. Went to Ft Hamer Dental on November 25,2021 for my cleaning and 3 fillings. I have Delta Dental so my cleaning was no charge and the fillings were 50% charge of the allowable contracted amount with Delta. I left there paying $386 more because the insurance didn't pay per the receptionist. My insurance was due for renewal so I called them today and said this insurance isn't saving me much money. They said we show it has saved you over $1000 this past year. We went over the claims with Ft. Hamer and they were charging me the difference between the allowed amount with Delta Dental and their charges. They have to write off the difference and not charge the patient. Called Ft. Hamer and the girl immediately got defensive. When I told her what the insurance said she had to check out it out and call me back. After 2 hour wait I called and she said we will refund your money but it will take a month for the refund to be processed. Delta was waiting to hear from me because they were going to file a complaint for non-compliance on Ft.Hamer Dental. Never again will I go back there. Always check with your insurance! **5/23/22** I was contacted by the office on 5/11/22 and she was very apologetic. She said a check would be processed on 5/13/22 and sent out. On Thursday 5/18/22, I called the office because I hadn't received my refund. She said a check was issued on Monday 5/16/22 and I should receive it soon. Here it is 5/23/22 and still no check. I went in for a cleaning( which I never got because they were too busy adding up all the procedures they could coerce me into getting ) and came out with a whole list of procedures they wanted to do for over 10,000.00 !! i went to my regular dentist for a second opinion and most of the procedures were NOT NECESSARY . ( I only went there because my insurance changed and they accepted it .) what really concerns me is the possible FRAUD , lies and UNNECESSARY dental procedures they want to perform on me . Dr . I started going to this dental office about 2 years ago. I agree with the reviews that say you have to have a consult before they will do a cleaning, which I find a bit strange. I'm from the northeast and I've never heard of this before. Dr. Lee was very nice. I was told I needed 2 fillings repaired. I was surprised because I take very good care of my teeth (I'm a daily flosser), but I agreed to to this. I paid my portion and a few weeks later, my insurance company informed me that they paid about $150 more than expected. I contacted the office and they said they will hold on to it and I will have a credit with them. I said no, I want to be refunded. Office manager had to call me back, but eventually I received the refund. Went there in May of 2022 for a cleaning. Upon leaving, I was told I owed nothing and actually had a $36 credit. This is petty stuff that I can live with......but, READ ON!!! My husband started going here in December of 2021. He knew he needed crown repair. They examined him and said he needed 3 crowns replaced and 3 new ones. My husband has good dental insurance, so he agreed to it. He was told the pre-estimate amount would be $3974. About a week later, he returned to have the work done. At this time they told him the cost would be $5332. My husband decided to pay it because needed the work done. He went back on 12/28 for a deep clean which cost him another $200. He returned in January, 2022 for them to check the deep clean and crowns. He was told he had a zero balance. Fast forward 8 months later to August, 2022. I receive an email from Fort Hamer with a link that says Pay Bill....that's it. I click on the link and it says I owe $2880, with no explanation or itemization. I call them up and after playing telephone tag for a few hours, I finally get a live person. She says your husband owes $2880. I asked them why the email came to me and had my name on it. We have separate emails and different dental insurance. My husband has gone back and forth with them since August. His insurance pays 50% of crowns. The total cost for the work was around $8700 and my husband has already paid more than 50% of this. We have spoken to his insurance company and they don't see any outstanding charges. They advised us to get an itemized statement from From Hamer. We have requested one, but Fort Hamer has not supplied us with one as of yet. We aren't entirely sure what is going on here, but the whole thing seems rather sketchy. Needless to say, my husband and I will not be returning to this office. Be very wary of this office. I am told it is a corporate dental office with centralized billing. That in itself creates a problem in my opinion. The reason for 2 stars is because the hygienists were excellent and I believe Dr.Lee is a decent dentist, other wise I would have only given 1 star. read more

Terrible billing practices! They email you your statement, and if you miss it, they don't send a bill in the mail. My wife called them because she got a text message, and was asked about the amount due, and I asked her to check on my balance and she said it was zero and then said "oh wait we submitted some thing and it got rejected, so you owe $150. I can not say enough good things about Fort Hamer Dental, Dr Lee and his assistant! She is the sweetest soul, she's very gentle for babies like me. Dr Lee is so genuine and caring. I've never had a doctor call or text me in the evening just to see how I was doing. This was after a root canal. I was in a little pain, and for the next week he PERSONALLY checked on me every few days, called me in an antibiotic, gave me tips and reassured me, and to top it off didnt over charge me. This speaks volumes to his character, and when you are at the mercy of a doctor it is so important that you can trust him and feel that your needs are truly cared for. Me and My wife have been going to this Dentist for about 2 years now. We both have Delta Insurance. We get %100 percent paid cleanings and exam. But they always want to charge us something like a Floride treatment and oral cancer screening, but I always decline this stuff. But I ended up paying $36 anyway because they said I wasn't covered %100 so stupid for me for that. The Dentist MR Lee said I need 2 new crowns for teeth that already have crowns on them. He said the teeth were soft and needed new crowns. The teeth don't bother me at all. They showed me a bill for $2000 Dollars and Delta would pay 50%. They did the same thing with my wife and said she needed 1 crown and showed her a cost of $1000. Whenever you go there you can bet your going to need something according to MR Lee. This Dentist needs to be reported to the Dental Association for scamming people for teeth repair that you don't need. read more

Made an appointment back in March to try out the new dentist office closest to the house. Office called to tell me that my appointment needed to be changed due to office closure for COVID-19. Rescheduled appointment for 6/16 @ 2:30 PM. Took the day off of work for the appointment. The day of the appointment, I am told it needs to be rescheduled again for 8/5 because the office needs to close early at 2 PM. Two more months to reschedule a scheduled appointment with no notice??? I will take my business elsewhere! @Lance, I believe you were the person that talked to my wife and cancelled the appointment. I spoke with Bianca. It was explained to me that 8/5 was the earliest I could get an appointment even though I already had two prior scheduled appointments. I was about to be a new patient at this office, when the texts and calls started. A little background, I left my previous dentist because they started this nonsense. They act like they can't trust an adult to understand and keep an appointment. If I have an appointment, I keep it.. except they will cancel the appointment if you don't call back to confirm it within a few days before. I don't understand the policy. For example, My appointment is on a Friday say, and they call me and tell me on Wednesday that if they don't hear back they will cancel. So being a good patient, I call and confirm. The reality is that any number of things can happen in those 2 days remaining before my appointment that would cause me to call and cancel and/or reschedule. This policy needs to stop. It's ridiculous to presume that just because someone confirms an appointment 2 days before, that they will definitely be there - more so than someone who hasn't confirmed. I guess a handshake and an appointment are no longer ways to do business in America, and I will continue to shun companies who behave this way. read more

Called to make appointments for my wife and I. Was told they accept our Medicare advantage plan. At appointments, they did a comprehensive imaging and x-rays. They also did examinations. They didn't clean my teethe and only did a light cleaning for my wife. They said I needed a "thorough" cleaning and that would cost a lot more. Then Dr. Lee explained all the things they wanted to do, including braces to align my teethe (I am 73 and no dentist has ever suggested I get braces). Then they gave us each a list of all the procedures we needed. My list totaled more then $10,000. The exams were just an opportunity for them to make a sales pitch for overpriced procedures, many of which are not necessary. They also pitched their financing program. On top of that, we only found out later that they are not in our network, so they lied about that. I have to admit that everyone there was pleasant and professional, other than whoever initially told me they accepted our insurance. read more
