My husband had worked just a few weddings with Elizabeth, but remembered her/made a mental note for the future. After the initial inquiry, she sent a sweet video message to us, which immediately shows the level of service and care you're going to get. We went ahead with booking both an engagement shoot and the wedding service. For the engagement photos, Elizabeth helped us narrow down a location based on her extensive experience (we selected a place in Ojai). I was a little nervous, as we're not the most natural in front of the camera, but she was great at directing/posing us when needed and put us at ease. It was also a great way to connect before the wedding day. Leading up to the wedding, she had thorough questionnaires/discussions to make sure she understood what shots were important to us and how to best accommodate them. Shoutout to Bryan, her second shooter for the day, for also being wonderful to work with. Be prepared to have a "difficult" time when selecting your photos as there will be many to choose from! For both sessions, she scheduled time in person for us to review and select the photos we liked and for the printed books we got. All the photos were easily accessible after via a personalized website too.

Let me just start off with this, if you're looking for a sign to book Elizabeth, this is it, do it!…read moreAlso, I almost NEVER write long reviews, but our experience was so amazing, I wanted to take my time and share our great experience. Short review - I booked Elizabeth to photograph my proposal, and she was absolutely the best! The photos were amazing, her attention to detail is excellent, and what my fiancée and I appreciated the most is how intimate the experience was, Elizabeth takes her time to really get to know you as a couple and she gets so invested in your love story which absolutely helps her capture the best photos. If you're like us too where we don't really know how to pose or anything, worry not, Elizabeth is great at instructing you guys what to do, how to pose, etc so the photos come out looking candid and natural. Our session was only booked for 30 minutes and we wanted it around sunset, we may have started a little early, but we were so grateful that Elizabeth decided to extend our session a little longer to capture more breathtaking photos since the sunset lighting was reaching its best point! Long review - I had been planning to propose to my then-girlfriend for some time, but had no idea where or how, I knew she wanted something somewhat private and intimate with just us two present. I knew also I wanted to capture the moment by hiring a photographer as well. As an LA local, I figured Malibu would be a nice spot but had no idea of a specific location, so I searched on google, and this is how I came across Elizabeth's page. She had a detailed section with her recommended spots around the Malibu area with sample photos and all the information you need to know. Right then, I knew she was the perfect photographer to hire, so I inquired and the rest is history. As I mentioned, Elizabeth will take her time to get to know you and your partner's love story, she becomes so invested that in the short amount of time of working with her, we immediately felt like we were good friends for years! She sent me two recommended spots based on my preferences along with a full album of her past clients at those locations, which I did check out and further discuss with her the plan for her to hide in plain site (which she was great at haha) and come up behind us to capture the candid moment I dropped on one knee. I didnt choose this option, but Elizabeth also has connections if you choose to have a surprise set up at the location when you arrive for the proposal. Also If you're looking for a great beach with rock side view when the tide is low, ask her about Leo Carillo beach! It was absolutely perfect for us. Part of the experience we booked was choosing photos to create a physical album which we did at a separate date at her personal office/studio in Ventura which she made us feel right at home complete with drinks and snacks! The session went smoothly and it was so fun. At the end, she took the time to let us know her other booking options when it comes time for us to plan for wedding photos and videography, and of course from our amazing experience, my fiancée and I would absolutely love to book with Elizabeth again in the future, she also offers discounts for repeat clients! The session and album was worth every penny, if this review doesn't convince you of her expertise and professionalism, then check out some of my favorite photos from our session, I promise you wont regret booking her!

When I asked her how she felt about shooting a bunch of midwesterners mixed with Cubans, Sicilians and a bunch of women who would micro-manage her, she simply replied "I can herd cats." And that my friends, she did. To give an example of how amazing she was - right in the middle of our group shots, the youngest relative burst into tears. I don't know what happened but Karen pulled the little girl aside away from everyone, whispered in her ear and the little one wiped away her tears, started to smile and got right back in the group shot. Some of my favorite photos are of my aunt with Parkinson's who got up out of her wheel chair to dance with my uncle - they've been married 50+ years - the photo is priceless to me. Our families were all over the place - bossy & laughing and definitely not paying attention - Karen and her lovely husband took beautiful candid shots of two crazy families. Did I mention how personable she was? Quick? YES. Dependable? YES. Approachable? YES. Professional? YES. Whip Smart? YES. And here's one for the books --- we didn't know it but Karen was 5+months pregnant while shooting our wedding and never complained once about being tired. THUMBS WAY UP! Please contact me if you have any questions, I'd be happy to discuss our entire process. Thank you Karen, you rock!

We got married in Santa Barbara at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum in November 2018 and knowing they have shot at this venue many times was very comforting. We wanted to have photographers that knew the venue due to lighting and where to capture those special moments. We took our wedding party photos at the Hotel Californian and we loved how all those photos turned out. They captured everything about that hotel and why we chose to get ready there. The lighting and candid moment shots from our first look, to our wedding party group shots were great! Everything leading up to the big day went to smooth. They have great communication and organizations to make sure we got all the shots we needed. When we received all our wedding photos back, their online album was organized and easy to view. It was so helpful when we were choosing which photos to print! The printing service they used was so easy to order from and they arrived so quick! While my wife…read morethought she wanted a traditional wedding, after the stress of trying to coordinate one with all our family/friends and looking at the crazy cost of even a simple wedding, we decided to elope. After finding Jennifer Whalen and seeing the Big Sur Stary night package we never looked back. Jennifer did an excellent job helping us through the whole process and providing clear directions (lots of checklist!) when we had our wedding at Big Sur in June of 2025. The recommendations Jennifer gave us all worked out extremely well and she gave solid advice on how to tweak things to our liking (like about hairdresser and lodging - we did Glenn Oaks grove for our wedding + Tinkle Pink in for honey money). Having our ceremony in the woods and traveling to beautiful beachside cliffs/beaches was a day that made our day more like an adventure. We have so many memories from that day and the pictures still bring tears to my wife's eye when she sees them (I put some of them as our Roku backdrop so they show up on our TVs every now and then) Advice I would give for anyone planning on doing this is prepare for all sorts of weather for your self and spouse as it could be super-hot or super cold/wet so just bring some photo worth options and plan your clothes for whatever comes. Don't be surprised when the fog doesn't cooperate.

Once I saw her website, I was hooked. Immediately, I reached out to Jennifer and she was great at communicating and setting up a time for our engagement photos. She told us we'd have our photos by a certain date and actually sent us a link to our album a week before then! We really liked how the photos captured our personalities and how fun they were to take. I'm always awkward when taking pictures and am unsure of where my hands go (much like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights), but I basically did whatever I wanted and Jen got a gajillion great photos. She is SUPER organized and has one of the coolest ideas called table races. I really wanted photos of us with EVERYone who came to our wedding and Jen does this thing where the bride and groom run around and take photos with every single table. It was done in less than 5 minutes, as time was a concern of ours, and they turned out so fun! We got the package that included a wedding book and I couldn't narrow down the photos I liked because there were so many! So I basically picked a ton of pics and let Jen do her magic. When we received the book, we were absolutely blown away. The organization of the photos and the thought put into each page was perfect! If you're looking for a wedding photographer, Jen is your girl. Book her now!

The last thing I want are pictures that appear awkward and unnatural. I found Emily and Sarah through a friend and instantly felt at home and the photos are proof.
