Sierra Preschool is a top notch preschool. In fact, it's the best in Auburn by far…read more I toured about 10 preschools in Auburn and Grass Valley, and there were only two preschools out of the ten-ish that we loved. Sierra Preschool was one of them. The other was in Grass Valley and had a waiting list, so it wasn't an option because we wanted our son enrolled in classes sooner than later. That was a blessing in disguise. GENERAL INFO: Sierra Preschool is a cooperative school, which means that parent participation is required and thus the monthly tuition is reduced substantially. I initially was looking for a preschool where I could drop off my son and go about my business of shopping, working out, cleaning the house, etc., but as it turns out, I LOVE that I am so involved in his daily activities and learning. I love the other parents at the preschool, and I love that I know the kids there as well. It is such a family environment! The teachers are top notch and really care about every student. LAYOUT: The school itself is in an old house, fenced yard, in a convenient location. They have a lot of toys for the kids to play with, indoor and outdoor. There's a separate room for circle time, and a general area for crafts and snacks. There is a kitchen for food storage/prep and a large counter and sink. The office is located upstairs. CLASSES: The toddler class is fantastic and fun. Right now it's Tuesdays from noon to 1:30p. There is an hour of playtime, then 15 minutes of circle time (reading books, games) and then 15 minutes of snack time. The parents rotate bringing healthy snacks each week. The 3-, 4-, and 5- year olds can take a Tu-Th class from 9am to 11:30a. It also has a specific schedule of playtime, circle time and snack time. The class is limited to 18 students. And there's a 4- and 5- yr old class on Mon-Wed-Fri which is geared towards getting the kids ready for kindergarten. That class is from 9am to 1pm. The class is limited to 18 students. They also have summer school classes. In 2011, it's a 6-week program from 9am to 1pm. PHILOSOPHY: The philosophy of Sierra Preschool is "When I play I learn." And all the crafts and stories and outside play are great for these developing minds. My son can't wait to go to class each time. He's socializing and making friends, and I feel it's readying him for elementary school. It is such a relief to have found Sierra Preschool! LOCATION: Sierra Preschool is conveniently located off of I-80. Sierra Preschool is on the corner of Channel Hill Lane and Luther Rd. You can also get there easily by CA-49 to Luther Rd as well. PARKING: They have their own parking lot which fits about 6-8 cars. The parking lot entrance is on the side street, Channel Hill Lane; you can't get to it directly from Luther Rd. So, turn onto Channel Hill Lane and then make a quick right into the parking lot. Overflow parking is available on the neighborhood streets. TOURS: I recommend visiting any preschool before enrolling your child. Take your time; watch and listen while you're there. Take notes. Ask questions. See how your child reacts to the surroundings and the other kids. Talk to the other parents if you can. (When I was looking at preschools, I accidentally met a few parents of Sierra Preschoolers at different venues -- Mighty Mites class, the local library, and while I was there at the school), and every single one raved about Sierra Preschool and how we would love it. Now I know why and I agree!) JUST DO IT!: And if you have any reservations about being a participating parent, don't! It's not that big of a deal, doesn't take up too much time, and you get to meet wonderful people from the community. Message me thru Yelp (upper right corner of my review) if you have any questions.

It's not just a day care where the kids just spend all day playing. Mrs. Robyn and her staff plan educational games/activities with the kids. This place came highly recommended to me when I was looking to go back to work full time but hesitant of taking my kid to a daycare. I toured the facility and it was perfect for our needs. Robyn and her team are amazing. This daycare and preschool provides the kids a blend of home and school environment. I enrolled my oldest when he was 9 months old, and my youngest when he was 3 months old. They both love it! They learn so much through group activities and games. I enjoy hearing from my oldest about what he learned with teacher Robyn as he brings home a craft he did during the day. And Alyssa has a way with kids as well. She is so kind and sweet and my kids love her! My children are my greatest treasure. I wouldn't recommend Hugs and Kisses for your little treasures if I didn't trust Robyn and her wonderful team with my own.

There is a cap of about 14 kids being watched by four adults, and they have a preschool program for children over 2 years old. The kids are very engaged and sing, play, and do crafts throughout the day. There are specialized indoor play areas for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, as well as a playground and lots of outdoor activities. I believe before- and after-school care is also provided for school-aged children. At first I was really nervous bringing my child to anyone other than an at-home nanny. All that changed pretty quickly. Often times I go to pick up our daughter and she doesn't want to leave! She has also picked up some good social habits and when I sing her songs at home (Itsy Bitsy Spider among others) am sometimes surprised that she already knows the hand signals to the songs. I've found Country Kids to be very affordable. They have been amazingly accommodating for our family when very early or late pick-ups are needed, and we are so grateful to have this option when it's needed. They even have some perks such as date-night babysitting and occasional free-care Saturdays.

"Application" process was easy and I did a virtual tour via FaceTime with Millie (one of the owners). She was super calm and answered every single question I had & showed me every nook and cranny or the school and where kiddo was going to be. PK2 here we come! 1st day I don't think it ever gets easier sending your kiddo to a new school. Kiddo was a touch apprehensive of a new environment but Teacher Nikki was so incredibly warm and welcoming to kiddo (and hubs and I)! Immediately I knew he was going to be just fine. We met Teacher Monique the next day or so - they coteach PK2 - and she's a gem. Both teachers are warm & caring (like aunties) and their love for teaching shines through! The classroom Together Monique & Nikki have created a thriving classroom full of areas to explore with defined spaces & boundaries. There a reading circle, pet fish, reading pod, and then nap mats for the kiddos to use after lunch before afternoon activities. If the kids don't nap they do have the option to read/look at books quietly. The PK2 classroom has two restrooms with kiddo sized toilets and sinks. Each season brings new decorations to the classroom (and school). There are days when kiddo is having a rough morning and both Teacher Nikki and Teacher Monique are angels getting him into class quickly, settled and then sharing with us that he's ok which I so appreciate because there's nothing worse than leaving your kiddo in tears! The school overall Goddard does a host of extra activities- summer bbq, Father's Day celebration, Trunk-or-Treat, holiday concert to name a few. Each brings the Goodard teachers & families together in a special way, along all to get to know each other a little better, enabling us partner for our kid's. Goddard is a pretty special place. One that is developing our kid in an amazing way and preparing him for kindergarten!

I have been here four seperate times in two weeks. What I had noticed as a subbing teacher is the…read moredirty classrooms with exception to the Infant room and the room past the preschool on the left hand side of the building. All of the rooms require a deep cleaning of the furniture, the walls and the doors. The toys also needed to be cleaned. Dirt and filth covered the shelving units, with blotches of paint and stuck on food particles. The walls in some rooms need to be fixed because of large gouges. The mess on top of the cabinets are disgraceful. There is food up there with just garbage thrown up there. With some rooms it smells like the smell of poverty. Stink! There are rooms that have a wall clock. Then there are rooms that have a wall clock, but it's nonfunctional, meaning that no one has the mental acuity to place a new battery in it. So when I discovered this error I was late checking out of Goddard. I was told that I needed to clock out, but to ask Ms. Angie (director of operations and proficient gossiper). Ms. Angie admitted to me three times that it was an error on their part, but she still blamed me. This is a woman who refused me from having a small shoulder bag with my inhaler in it and my cough drops. I told her that I had asthma and I also suffered from seasonal allergies. She said that I could call her if I needed it. I am not carrying a cell phone with me into the classrooms. I do not know how to use the multi-line phone. So she is going to take away my ability to take care of myself. She did allow me to have my water bottle with me. But you know what I need my cough drops and I took those in my pocket. This is a far cry from my not following direction. This is a far cry from covering my ears because a child's scream pierced my eardrums. Ms. Angie has accused me of "sneaking up on her" when her back is towards the opening of the office door. Ms. Tracey has told Ms. Angie to tell me "where to go." Ms. Tracey thought that was a funny innuendo. Ms. Angie told her that that wasn't nice. That wasn't nice. The women who have worked in the office for a long time camouflage themselves behind the arrogance and unprofessional conduct of what junior high school girls would act like. There are some really good teachers who manage the classrooms. I have had the privilege of working with them. But Ms. Angie with her misaligned emotional immaturity rescinded me from returning. What that means to me is that she holds temps at a higher standard than she does her own staff.
