No pressure to buy anything. No upsell. Just genuine kindness and willingness to help. Bruce cleaned my glasses so well that they felt brand new, and he tightened them. My It made me think, "If they treat walk-ins like this, imagine how they treat actual customers." This place is wonderful! It's impeccably clean, the staff is kind, patient, and helpful. The Dr is careful to explain everything she's doing and why certain things are happening with your eyes. She took the time to help me understand and didn't rush me out the door. My glasses were made in very short time and are absolutely what I wanted. I will continue to come to For Eyes for years to come! Since my health insurance doesn't cover this, For Eyes is a great alternative. I have insurance with Kaiser. Unfortunately, it now takes 6-8 weeks to get non-emergency appointments. I found myself at For Eyes and what a GREAT experience! The testing part was thorough, much more so than Kaiser. The doctor gave me some advice I'd never heard from an ophthalmologist before. They did not repair my moms glasses stating ira just for minor repairs only...which is not what it says. We left. Recently, I had to replace my lenses in an existing frame, and went to For Eyes to see what they could do. They were really helpful, and were able to quote me a price and set everything up immediately. The folks working there were organized and quick, and I had my refreshed glasses in about two weeks. First, For Eyes is separate from Dr. Berokwitz. This review is for an annual eye exam with Dr. Berkowitz who is really nice, but whose staff made the experience underpar... Here's why: 1. Scheduling the appt: person answered and started booking but then needed to transfer me to someone else to "write things down"? 2. The appt: rooms are really tiny and the doc is doing some serious multitasking by seeing other patients simultaneously. --- No alcohol swab on head bar right before I put my head on it.. --- Staff seemed to need a lot of micromanagement.. -- * The most irritating part? Checking out * -- 3. Dr. Berokwitz was trying to explain something about LASIK to me, but her staff was trying to talk to me at the same time about my charges... 4. Staff explained what insurance covered like I was a moron, but "needed a minute to tell me the total" -- didn't understand the hostility... 5. Staff was irritated when I was asking about my prescription while she was trying to charge me, "1 thing at a time" and proceeded to charge me before I even understood if I got everything I needed...Customers need to know what they're paying for PRIOR to payment. Overall, the multitasking and checkout process was probably the worst part. Lots of upselling based on other interactions I saw at the appointment. $30 for basic service + $40 for contact fitting = $70 without dilation, they have add-on services like retina scanning etc. read more

Been going here for years for my back up pair of glasses two for $99. Happy they now house the $99 glasses in one section. And got a third pair of lens because I loved a pair of old frames I will wanted to use. Total around $240 with discount of buying 3 pairs. Took around a week to come in. I usually go to Bill manager for new pair adjustments, he is the best but he wasn't there that night and heard he is retiring soon, good for him! I went to a young guy for my adjustments, he was ok with simple adjustments but one pair needed major adjustments, he really mangled them, this guy didn't have the skill to do it and I asked for someone else to help. Rob then stepped up to help and he did a wonderful job with my pair of glasses. Glad he will be there when Bill leaves for retirement. read more

I walked in to have my progressive glasses (purchased elsewhere) to be adjusted. He promptly did so and also adjusted a second pair. He explained his adjustments which made sense and was very professional about it. When I offered to pay for his service, he said that it was free. This was the second time I stopped by this store. The first visit was a few months ago when I brought in a pair of sunglasses that had the ear piece broken off from a fall. Another optical place told me that it was not "fixable". To my eyes, it looks like all it needs is a screw. I am glad I stopped by For Eyes, because the technician did just that and fixed them. That service did not cost me a cent and restored my progressive sunglasses. My next pair of glasses will come from For Eyes. Wonderful service! Thank you ! read more

I'm giving two stars because their pricing is pretty fair and the workers are nice. However, the actuality of getting my glasses has not been a pleasant experience. I'm guessing it may be a problem with short staffing. If that's the case I wish they would hire more workers to help their customers. Reading through the reviews, it sounds like I'm not the only one with this negative experience. I had my exam and ordered my glasses 5 weeks ago on a Saturday and still don't have them. They initially told me it would be up to 3 weeks to receive my glasses. But a lot are done within 10 days or so. 2 weeks later I was in the area so I stopped in just to check. After a small search they found my glasses and said they just hadn't called me yet that day. But no worries, I was happy my glasses were done. I tried them on and they were very clearly not the right prescription. One eye was corrected for nearsightedness, (which I most definitely am not), the other eye for farsightedness which is what I am. They looked up the paperwork and apologized that the lab had read the prescription incorrectly. She told me they would have them redone and put a priority on the order. It would probably be done as early as the following Wednesday or Thursday. (5 to 6 days later). One week after that, no phone call so I stopped in again just to check. She looked at my order and apologized that they weren't done yet. They had to wait for the original optician that handled my order to be back in the office. Said it should only be a couple more days. One more week passed, no phone call. I was really busy that Saturday so I decided to call in and ask if they were there instead of just stopping in. Over the course of that Saturday, I called probably 10 to 15 times. And every time except one it rang and rang and then went to a generic voicemail. ( I have double and triple checked the phone number and was definitely calling the right one) The one time somebody answered, I was put me on hold right away. I held for quite a while until I either lost signal or got cut off somehow. The last call of the day I made I left a voicemail message on this generic system. Not knowing if anybody was going to get it or not. Here it is one more week later, 5 weeks after the initial order and three weeks after it was screwed up and sent back to be redone. Still no phone call. No word at all from them. I'm about to walk into the store now and see what in the world is going on. Do you think I'll actually get my glasses this time? Who knows. An even better question is do you think I'll come back next time I need an exam and glasses? I think not. read more

Had prior positive experiences with For Eyes, but apparently they have changed ownership and so far, customer service has been poor. Was told that glasses would be ready in 12 to 15 days. I am now on my fourth week and I have heard nothing from them. I've now called three times. Once it went to corporate voicemail. The other two calls, I reached a live person, was placed on hold for at least ten minutes and was told that they would call me back. No return calls. I may cancel my order and dispute the charge with Visa if they haven't called by Friday. read more

How Do I Love An Eyeglasses Store? Let me count the ways: 1. I am 44 years old and have been coming to For Eyes and since I was 17 years old (I had no insurance & was on my own and paid for my glasses out of pocket) They treated me like a rockstar then, helping me with paying for my glasses in payments... 2. The staff is outstanding !Sometimes I stop by just to say hello to Roxy and Bruce. Bruce and Roxy are hella cool, funny, and always try to make your glasses purchase a great experience..They always offer anyone's dogs a treat...They always make us laugh.. they're super personable...I have never bought glasses elsewhere. These people are the best in the business. Talk about being treated equally. There's no nicer group. I've walked in looking like a homeless person on several occasions throughout the years, and they have always treated me in a welcoming and warm manner. Smiling and kind, remembering your name and always having something nice to say.. a feel-good store that I could talk about forever.... Bruce and Roxy are the best. 3. Prices: don't judge the store by its location. These are probably the lowest priced glasses in the Bay Area. Just because it's in Palo Alto in a fancy strip mall doesn't mean that you're going to pay Palo Alto Retail Store prices. Again, I've been coming here since I was in the high school paying for glasses with my own money. You walk in and you walk out and think, "That was kinda awesome, and I just got a pair of killer glasses I know would have cost probably double somewhere else!" The store is always clean and they have the coolest glasses, even the fancy name brands are affordable. There's an eye doctor connected to their store to it which makes it super convenient. So truly, I don't think I've been so committed in my life except with the Army and my husband. We have used For Eyes for many years and always been delighted with their excellent service. Recently the chain has been sold, and we have seen a marked decline in service. First, they forced the optometrist, Lisa Berkowitz out. When I went in today, the optician seemed disinterested and bored, and acted like he was doing me a favor by accepting my order. They offer a bewildering array of add-on costs and discounts. In fairness, the frames and lenses were reasonably priced, but I had gotten a $25 discount in the mail which they would not honor, since printed in tiny, low contrast print was an expiration date of a week ago. They take two to three weeks to fill the orders, whereas in the old days it was a few days. read more

Usually these guys are great. I've been going to them for five years. This time when I went in to get my new sunglasses fitted the guy who "helped" me was... what's the word... indifferent. Guy in a pink button-up shirt. First I had to spell my name for him four times. Then he took the glasses out, handed them to me, then proceeded to sit there and stare at me silently. I wasn't sure what to do. I was confused, because when I went in with my partner, the person who helped him gave him his glasses, then asked him to sit for a fitting, spent lots of time with him making sure his glasses fit comfortably and thanked him for coming in. This guy? Dead fish. Nothing. I said "do they fit okay? Do they look alright?" He said "yeah." That's it. Not another word. I said "well okay, thank you sir," then as I started to walk out he reminded me that I'd left behind the saline bottle I'd borrowed to take out my contacts. I said "no thanks you can toss it, I just need the case for my contacts." He said "NO YOU TAKE IT!" and everyone around him looked up. I... just kept walking. read more

Dr No, one of two opticians, gets zero stars. Gave me a wrong prescription, argued at length I did not have astigmatism and I would just see worse and worse even with the correct prescription. Almost comical. But not because I came here to update my prescription. I've had an astigmatism in one eye for over ten years. What was surprising was the vehemence of his arguing down my polite questioning. The assistant even said she took the prescription off my existing glasses (which compensated for my astigmatism) but apparently did not do that correctly, either. I needed my glasses for a trip in 2 weeks after I finally got an appt but Dr. No's inaccuracy, poor customer service, and inept office staff, meant that the prescription he insisted was wrong. Stay away from Dr No. Lisa B. The main doc is very sweet and decent however she is apologist who doesn't manage operations well, and clearly allows Dr. No and everyone else to continue screwing over her patient base. I should mention originally in person, I made an appt and looked at frames, the Asian optical assistant claimed she set an appointment for me to see the Doc. She acted very annoyed at me for requesting to make an appointment. When I went in a week later for the appointment there was no appointment made. Very passive aggressive rude and incompetent staff. read more

I just Had the Rudest, strangest, weirdest experience at the place. I will be working in this area and I Need a new pair of glasses. This place acted as if they Never heard of my plan. And was talking about me in the third person as of I wasn't even there. It must of been my Latina look that turned them off which is Very Disturbing and Discriminaing. I said, oh if the frames are so low in price I could pay cash, meaning I could self pay instead of going through insurance. The person said, Cash?! We cant take cash because I cant go to the bank as if I would walk in there with Cash money instead of using my bank card! I cant believe a business that is Open and making me feel so low in self worth. My profession is customer service and I was number one in sales and service in my last two jobs.. I really think these people need Serious Training on how to serve the community especially for diverse populations. And if I'm going to be working close by and spending my lunch and breaks here, I'm second guessing if I made the right decision...Rude Awakening!! read more

So, I was watching a Niners game on the computer on a Friday evening and picked up my reading glasses to put them on, and something flew on me. An involuntary reflex forced me to swat it off me to the floor. Yikes, what was it? I looked down and roamed around under the desk missing a few plays, and found a piece of glass, so I put on my glasses and noticed the left lens was missing. Aha, the glass lens! Now, the screw. After about 45 minutes looking around with a little laser light for the missing screw that caused the problem, I found it! Now what, I asked myself? I answered, need a magnifying glass, which I got. Then, found one of those super small screw drivers and started to put the lens in the frame and replace the screw to secure it. After another 45 minutes of feeling like that big radioactive hulky guy in Fantastic Four, I gave up and decided to pay somebody to fix it. Found For Eyes on Yelp and it seemed OK, so I took the frames, lens, and screw there when they opened the next day - which was a Saturday - fully prepared to pay whatever they wanted. As soon as I got there, they asked if I needed to pick up some glasses, lol. I told them my problem, and they were on it immediately. About 15 minutes later, they not only had fixed it, they also had put on new nose guards, and polished and cleaned the lenses. With a little anxiety, I asked how much. The answer - it's free. I was kind of floored and really wanted to buy something as a token of my appreciation. I said, "Are you sure? I don't mind paying," but they refused to accept payment. I almost bought some cleaner, but didn't for some reason. So, the next time I need new frames or anything related to glasses, this is where I'm going!! read more

I've worked with them to put lens in 2 different pair of glasses. Service was speedy and polite. I'm not sure who would give them a bad review because they're completely legit. They document everything, even phone conversations in your client notes so I'm pretty confident that they're doing a great job. People I've worked with: Carolina, Ruth, Rowena, Austin, Bill, and Rod. I loved my experience at For Eyes! Tricia was honest and helpful even when it was clear that I probably wasn't going to buy anything. I came because my Costco glasses were too thick and I wanted to ask if they could make me thinner glasses. Instead of trying to sell me new glasses, Tricia told me those were the thinnest glasses they could make. She also suggested I go back to Costco and exchange them for glasses with smaller frames. I couldn't do this because of their exchange policy, but I appreciated that she was focused on my interests instead of just selling the glasses. She did show me some frames (because I asked how much it would cost to buy frames at For Eyes), but I never felt like she was making a sales pitch. I did ask how much it would cost to buy glasses at For Eyes, and the price she gave me was much better than what LensCrafters gave. I had my first appointment outside the house in months as I've been without glasses during quarantine. Not only have For Eyes adopted CDC protocols rigorously, but their communication about new ways of working and expectations for customers was thorough and clear. I was not only reassured but proud of this local business's leadership in navigating what new back-to-business looks like. I'm disappointed by the aftercare experience at Four Eyes. My teenage daughters had appointments with the new optician, Dr Quoc Ngo, for eye test and contact lens appointments. Those were fine, and the doctor seemed knowledgeable and patient. We then chose frames and ordered glasses and contacts for both. Both pairs of glasses arrived within 10 days. My older daughter's needed adjusting, so she took them in the day after we picked them up. Unfortunately, in the adjustment process, the assistant broke one of the arms. My daughter was too embarrassed to say anything on the spot, so I had to take the glasses back next day. After discussion, Four Eyes agreed to replace them. It took SIX weeks for the replacements to come. I set my husband onto calling every week, and he experienced incompetence, confusion ("Are you sure we have them?"), and downright misleading statements (including "you already took them" - Er, no). When they finally called to say the glasses were in the store, my daughter and husband went in - and the frame had no lenses! They had to take the lenses out of the broken frame and put them into the new frame while my family members waited. So what had been happening for those six weeks? Now for the contacts. My older daughter's contacts came in fine, all correct. However, my younger daughter's contact lens order came in wrong - instead of a year supply, she got 24 days worth. Trying to get the store to pay attention to this error was very hard. They don't pick up the phone, or they put you on hold for a very long time (in the end you hang up - being on hold for 15-20 minutes is too tedious). When you do get the assistant, she seems utterly confused. The contact lens order error took the best part of three weeks to put right. All this points to a change in management and staff which has not been accompanied by a period of training. This store used to be a great place for glasses - we've been going there for many years - but now it seems quite chaotic. We shall not be returning. read more

After putting off getting reading glasses for way too long, I bit the bullet. I decided to try For Eyes (despite a few negative reviews here) because it was convenient. I'm so glad I did. I was helped by Bill who was available to help me, but also very willing to leave me alone as I narrowed down my choices. There were so many great frames to choose from and I was *so* pleasantly surprised by the prices that I picked up a pair of sunglasses too (which Bill adjusted, and now to feel perfect). Bill gave me a 20% discount because I had Blue Cross. I highly, highly, highly recommend this place and even more highly recommend Bill. read more

This place is amazing. I have a very demanding older relative who was extremely difficult during the glasses selection process. They worked diligently and patiently to get her what she wanted. And after ALL that, once she got the glasses, the exact ones she wanted, she said, oh I've decided I don't want them after all. UGH. I thought no way would they take these as a return, and not only did they take them back, but they remembered us (probably because she was such a tough customer) but were so kind and helpful. Why didn't anyone tell me about this place sooner? After realizing the glasses I was wearing was my prescription...from 3 years ago...I figured it'd be time to get some new specs. They had huge selection, including designer frames and customer service was decent. But what makes them great is the deal you get! When it comes to vision insurance, I'm not very well versed. The manager sat down and checked my plan online and I was pleasantly surprised to see that I did have some sort of vision coverage. He worked the numbers with some crazy For Eyes formula and I ended up paying very little for my Prada frames and special lenses (it costs more for coke bottle lenses). I walked in Wednesday and placed my order and they called me the following Monday to let me know that they were ready. 5 days! Fabulous! read more

I was referred to them by Robert from Palo Alto eye works where I was planning to get my glasses...at first I was apprehensive since the front desk was not to familiar how to coordinate my wife's and my VSP plan...but she spent time calling VSP customer service and getting the COB squared away. The optomologist spent a nice amount of time with me and i did not feel rush at all...she allowed me to try many Rx options to help me with my eye fatigue with the computer. I walked away very satisfied that she listened to every one of my concerns. One plus thing is that they respected the referral from my optometrist and did not cross sell me their own glasses. read more
