The Ukiah Symphony is a community orchestra, with most of the musicians local amateurs. They present four concerts a year at the Mendocino Community College Little Theater. A typical professional symphony orchestra will have 80 to 100 musicians. At a recent performance, the Ukiah Symphony could muster only 37. They played Beethoven's Fourth Symphony with only a dozen violinists. An early Romantic symphony would have played this piece with 50 stringed instruments; here there were 20 or so. As a consequence, the music sounded thin. This is not to criticize; they do very well with what they have. Highly recommended if you find yourself in Ukiah on a weekend when they are playing. Check the website for dates and tickets.

Even…read moreafter I provided proof of payment via a cancelled check, the staff denied receiving it, acted dismissively, hung up mid-call, and ignored subsequent phone calls.Because my proof of payment was ignored and communication was cut off, I had to escalate the issue through multiple channels and mention legal options before receiving a response. Management initially offered only a partial refund. After further stressful negotiations, the director finally issued a full refund but explicitly banned me from future attendance. The director has since acknowledged in writing that the customer service I received was inadequate and stated that this situation forced them to change a refund policy held since the 1980s. While the billing error was eventually corrected, the conflict resolution process was unprofessional, misleading, and required radical escalation just to get an answer. Be aware of how this organization handles billing disputes before you pay them in advance.

The seats in the auditorium (Ruth Finley Person Theater) were basic but not uncomfortable. And the view, even from the last row in the back on the lower level, was decent. Sound from the stage was fine, clear enough that I could hear every single word the comedian used to keep the crowd rolling with laughter, including myself of course. Good times!

They play was outstanding and the entire group was so friendly and treated us like we were very special guests. Highly recommended. Inexpensive and well worth the trip.
