What a -great- place to stay! It was spotlessly clean & recently renovated. The room had one queen bed and there was plenty of space for the two of us, easy parking and an air conditioner that kept the room cool and comfortable even though outside temps were over 100 degrees. When we arrived in the evening, the gentleman at the front desk was nice, very informative and highly competent. Checkout the next day was just as seamless. It was a last minute trip for my hubby and I to watch our SIL in a marathon. All the HOTELS were booked as Auburn had a lot going on this weekend, marathon, rodeo & bike race. I came upon this motel & it said it was renovated, got some good/ fair reviews on yelp with only 2 1/2 stars. Please disregard any negative reviews, this place was great! Each room has their own parking spot in front of their room plus the spots are a nice size for our F-350 truck. Nice little fridge & coffee pot. They supply 4 k-cups but no cream/sugar, also no ironing board or hair dryer but there is plenty of storage for clothes & whatever. There is a porch also with table & chairs. The rooms have NEW a/c units just open the remote to program it ( we didn't figure that out for a while), it works great We were next to the ice machine but NOT a problem at all. Definitely will stay there again on our next trip to Auburn. Manager Michael was very accommodating & nice! read more

This is a great hotel for the price. The room are clean the property is clean. Bedroom and pillows are all comfortable. The shower water pressure is excellent and it's get as hot as you need it to be. We were in burn for dry diggings and needed to stay one more night and Glen at the front counter was great he worked out a way for us to stay another night even though he was full. Perfect place if you need a quick overnight for the weary traveler. This hotel seems to get a bad rap, but it is definitely improving. The remodeled rooms are small but the bed is very, surprisingly comfortable. Cute little fridges, decent water pressure and I really liked the spacious bathroom sink. On the down side and the reason for 3 stars instead of 4... the coffee sucks and those cheap pastries are a nice attempt but, why bother? Mostly the floor is my big issue. It's swept and looks clean, however on two occasions and in two different rooms I wiped up water drops from my ice chest and the napkins were black! Within a short time barefooted, my feet were also black. Gross. Get a mop! Also, no microwave but I've been told they are in the works. I've found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. Our family has a special history and connection to this motel. We have been coming up to Auburn for years and we always stayed here. Was disappointed to see that the hot tub and pool are out of commission for now. I'm guessing it's Covid, or it could have something to do with their remodling. The new rooms have vynl flooring, lovely bathrooms, and cute cups and other nostalgic items with their name on them. The bathrooms are lovely and new, however the showers don't have a shelf or anything to place your toileries, so you set them on the ground. I'm young and don't mind grabbing my things from the ground too much, but I can imagine this being a real problem for the elderly or disabled. I was also not so happy to see that there aren't any phones in the room. I know everyone has a cell now days, but things happen, and phones, die, get lost, stolen, or forgotten. So, there may be instances that phones are needed and I think they should be provieded. Not sure if this is a temporary thing while they are remodelling? Friendly staff and everything you need for a comfy cool stay. Affordable and clean. I can see myself returning when I need to as I work on my house. read more

This is a great little hotel. Recently remodeled with adorable retro accents in the rooms, VERY clean, and with super friendly and helpful staff (like seriously, you ask for something and if it isn't immediately handy at the front desk they are delivering it to your door 5 minutes later). Area felt safe and the hotel location is quite convenient right off the freeway. Just 5 minutes away is Old Town Auburn with locally owned shopping, restaurants, and free museums. Lots of local history, especially about the Gold Rush. Highly recommend this hotel. **Also, IMO disregard the overall star rating and just look at the recent reviews. The one and two star reveiws are pulling down the overall rating, but most of them are from before the current owners and before the remodel. **Note that not all rooms have the patio that some of the reviews mention, I think only the king deluxe rooms have the patios. read more

We were heading to Reno and needed a place to stay while waiting out the weather. Just wanted some place that was inexpensive is all. Did a search for 2-3 star hotels and I must have tapped a button that erased the filter, and Foothills Motel came up. I called and talked with Bella and she helped my book two rooms. Gotta say, it's a one star hotel with a 4 star vibe. The rooms are remodeled to a totally 50s retro look. Parking in front of your room. No restaurant on site, but plenty of food nearby, most in walking distance. The room not only looked cool, but it was meticulously cleaned and the bed was really comfortable. The new wood-look vinyl flooring helped stop you from slipping, and that's important with all the rain we encountered. The manager was friendly and even upgraded our room without us asking (from queen to king beds). This place is a hidden gem and if I was ever passing this way again, I'd definitely come back here. read more

I stayed here last summer and did not feel safe. The facility is enclosed, there is only one exit. There is no phone in the room. The motel was sparsely occupied yet I was given a room right next to a woman who would not speak or acknowledge my presence, who spent her time out front and did not respect my space. I expressed concern for her wellbeing and was told to MYOB. (Also: if you own an EV it might look as though there's a charger here, but it's not, it's at the far, secluded edge of the neighboring property.) Perhaps it has improved. read more

The price for what we got was excellent. Three times less expensive than another hotel in the area we have used before. The heat/AC was excellent and we were very comfortable all night. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The refrigerator was roomy and cold and had a freezer compartment (unlike many other places we've stayed). We loved the retro red appliances. The shower was nice, I wish mine at home looked like it. The morning desk clerk was super pleasant and friendly and gave us extra supplies when we asked. It was very quiet and clean. Being able to park right in front of our room was a plus. We have family in the area and will stay here again. read more

Please let me make one update / correction from a review that was made four months ago. I was recently there within the last month and at no time was I asked for any proof of the JAB . Would it have a bearing if I stayed or not ?, absolutely yes it would have . And out of principle I would have not stayed there . That said , I must say that the new owners have gone over and above to turn the old dive motel Into something special !. I've been In Auburn for most of my 56 years and I've seen the Foothills Motel go through a few changes and this by far its the most spectacular !. So even if your a long time local check the place out and I'm sure you'll recommend it to any traveler. The only thing I would strongly recommend to the manager is to put in some vending machines . And of course they can feel free to contact me via YELP and I'd be happy ro recommend some great vendors. And here's a little piece of interesting local movie trivia . In the 1986 movie WISDOM staring Demi Moore and Emillo Estavez the Foithills Motel was used in one of the shotouts using live ammunition. The motel was at that time undergoing remodeling so the timing was perfect to blend life with art. read more

The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel/motel beds I've ever slept in; the match for those at even luxury resorts. The remodeled room was pristine and even smelled new. Parking 10 feet from the door of my room was very welcome for unloading my luggage late at night after a long day of driving. The person checking me in was very friendly and personable; and her little dog, Ziggy, coming to greet me and even bringing me his bone because he wanted to play while I was being checked in, put a smile on my face. read more

Weenie little soaps and no ledge to put anything in the shower, but we made it work. The town was booked solid and this "in the process of remodeling," 50's motel was available. What a great find. We were in the front room 101, next to the road and I 80. We didn't hear any of the road noise in the room and I was worried that it was too close. The most quiet and efficient room air conditioner we've ever experienced. (Don't ya just love all the racket those things make when you have to run them while you try to sleep at night?) This mid-century,retro motel is a fantastic value! The entire motel was recently remodeled and brought back to its former glory. The rooms are clean, well designed with amenities you would not expect at motel (including Keurig coffee maker) especially for the low price. Compared to the other options in the area, you are getting a lot more value at the Foothills motel. It is also conveniently located along I-80 and next to the Foothills bowling alley - which has great good and is a fun place to hang out, bowl and have a cocktail or beer. Just what we needed! Retro motel in process of being refurbished. With that said, the rooms have been refurbished and are very clean and nice. Extremely comfortable beds and each bed had 4 pillows. Michael, the manager, was very friendly and accommodating. If he's not in the office he is out walking the grounds. There is no pool or spa/hot tub at this time. Even though it is being refurbished there is not construction noise. In fact, there is no noise at all. Guests come all hours most staying 1 night, sits on hill above I80 but it is extremely quiet. We were there last weekend for 2 nights and it was very restful nights. It is across interstate from Auburn State Recreation Area and is in a great central Auburn location. East access to hiking, lakes, rivers, Old Town and North Auburn. Moderately priced. Would easily stay again. read more

In the Foothills Motel Zoo like an animal that just figured out the glass was retracted and there you are one unattended steak. That tawdry Wild Kingdom spit and shove love should occur in a setting that goes with the inherent tawdry found within your Post-Prison Papi. Think of it like make-up love. Except that you hafta wait 3-5 after the apology for it to actually happen. You got one chance Scooter. Don't screw it up. Get the room at The Foothills Motel with the pre-stained carpet, bed pushed up against the wall and lopsided table held up with The Getmesomes Bible. No one will know you are there because no one will admit going past room 399 and if they said they saw you then who's Man lied about his release date to double dip so it's all good no one talks code of honor thing. Best 60 bucks you'll spend for some time. Tag him in one of the 400's. THEN release him back into the wild. Just leave the room decent and a tip for the maid...we both know it's highly likely you'll need that room again next year and the windows still won't be tinted on the Range. Wha??? I rode in from the highway, on a friends' high praise recommendation. However, had I not been exhausted, I would not have stayed. The staff was friendly, but I was appalled by the duct tape holding down the carpet around the vents and the torn lemon-polyester and the absence of a phone. I was also amazed by the multi-chalked patio and torn screen door. When I checked, the boss was more concerned whether or not I followed his service button rules than whether I enjoyed my flophouse experience. I genuinely empathized with staff. This place could be so much better. read more

This motel obviously isn't the most appealing too the eye but we've been here 3 weeks and Micheal is nothing but helpful and nice. It's a place we called home. Pros: Sliding glass door to a porch Cable (if you plan on staying awhile bring your own tv the one in the room it's alittle outdated) Mini fridge Microwave Close to stores and fast food Cons: Parking is terrible especially when the maintenance guy thinks he owns a certain spot (he is nice tho just rubbed us the wrong way the first night) Showers are old and the water pressure is weird Bathroom is outdated hole in the ceiling where a light I'm assuming is supposed to go. Beds are comfy but check them when you arrive as my sheets looked stained and hair was on them. Good luck getting toilet paper when needed you basically have to hunt down a maid to get some. My biggest complaint is the fact that if someone is smoking marijuana in a room it travels thru the vents and it's strong as hell. I have a 16 month old and not something I want him smelling!! Micheal the manager was very helpful tho and I'm assuming moved them to another room. Also you don't control the air in your room so it's either too cold or too hot! Anyways I'm not talking bad about this motel at all just giving people a heads up as to what to expect. It's not a bad place at all!
