This is my regular go-to grocery store and I don't usually consider shopping anywhere else; That is…read moreuntil I met the dreaded "Val". My shopping trip had started as any other, fridge was empty, I was hungry and I had to resist the urge to open the crackers in my cart in the middle of the store and have a snack. Anyway... Everything was all fine and well until I got in the checkout line. As I approached the checkouts I noticed one line was considerably shorter than the others and it seemed like a no-brainer. I proceeded to unload my cart onto the belt; That's when the barrage of questions started, and they didn't stop. I was berated with questions about everything from my weekly menu to my brand of tampons; none of these questions where asked in a casual whisper either; Val was using what I could best describe as her "OUTSIDE VOICE" to ask a series of completely unnecessary, over-personal questions. Seriously, it was loud enough that I'm pretty sure the guy at the milk cooler knew which brand of tampons I was purchasing. Zehrs continues to be my regular grocery spot, because who am I kidding-I'm not going to food basics; but I will never-ever-ever fall for the short line-up at Val's till again. There is clearly a reason it's always a short line-up. I would rather wait in a 40 cart line-up than have another encounter with Val. If she were the only cashier in the store, I would drop a loaded cart of groceries on the spot and go home-I don't really need to eat that badly. Store gets a 5, Val gets a 0.

I stayed in the car, dialed the number, made some confirmations, and waited for the staff to bring it out. I waited about 10 minutes. The employee who helped me load the trunk was friendly and helpful. Our car was PACKED as we were traveling to a cottage with all of our stuff for 5 days. He was nice enough to tie the bags for me so the items didn't go everywhere. We went back to the bakery to pick up a cake for our friends birthday. There was no one at the counter until an employee came out of the freezer. We asked him to write 'happy birthday Allie' on a cake we chose and he said 'I'll try'. Which should have been a red flag right off the bat. The photo attached to this review will speak for itself with how this went..... With wanting to just get out of the store and not make a big deal, we packed up the cake and took it home. It's a hilarious photo and I laugh every time I look at it LOL. It makes for a great story but I feel other people may have been very upset if they took this home for someones birthday.

Although it does never seem to be stocked so well.. Maybe because its in the middle of nowhere are it serves alot of people? They have excellent steaks here in the summer, which taste delicious on the barbecue. Also there is a wine rack located in this store which is handy if you want to pick up a bottle of wine without having to go to the LCBO.

I spotted this new supermarket as I made a left turn from Highway 27 onto Finch Avenue West. I was…read moreheading to Wok of Asia to have some dinner. I needed to pick up a few grocery items, so dropping by Food World Supermarket afterwards was perfect. This building used to Rose Garden Banquet and Convention. I'm guessing that due to the pandemic, this business suffered and shut down. There is plenty of parking in front and around this supermarket. I backed into a spot and walked in. The doors automatically open, which is wonderful. This supermarket is located across from Burger King. I often frequent it when I crave a flame-broiled burger. Both are in the same plaza as Wok of Asia. It's clean and cheerful when you first walk in. You see cases of pop and sparking water. The produce section then greets you. I needed avocados and celery. Prices are either comparable to what you see at grocery stores like No Frills, but the quality is better. Both produce items that I grabbed were fresh and in great condition. This grocery store carries halal items. It features a lot of South Asian products, such as Parle-G and paratha. You also see ramen and Ribena, both of which made me love shopping at this store even more. I saw everything from custard to paneer. It does sell corned beef in cans and rose water in glass bottles. Cool! The meat section is impressive. It's huge with every cut of meat that you can possibly think of. You can get food to go. There's a stall within the supermarket where you can get pizza, shawarma, and more. I paid for my produce. The woman at the checkout was extremely pleasant and nice. I paid with my debit card. This store gives you a plastic bag. I thanked her and headed to the exit. Just before you exit, there's a stall that sells desserts, ice cream, drinks, and more. I asked the woman behind the counter whether their drinks have added sugar. They don't. The store goes with the natural sweetness of their fruit or veggies. I wanted to get the sugar cane and coconut hydrating beverage. She had run out of coconut, so I got a large sugar cane drink. As she made my drink, I looked at the desserts display. There were individual portions of chocolate mousse cake and sponge cakes. You can also get milkshakes, ice cream, and more. She asked whether I wanted ice in my sugar cane drink. I said as much as the cup could fit the ice. It was perfect on a hot day. I asked the nice woman how long this supermarket has been open for. It opened on May 18th. I paid with my debit card. Done! I thanked the woman and left with my groceries and drink. The sugarcane was indeed the real deal. It was naturally sweet and yummy. I was happy with my drink. It was nice consuming it as I drove home. Whenever I was in the area to grab some dinner, there was never a supermarket close by to get a few grocery items. It's definitely more convenient now thanks to this Food World. (174)
