I don't remember how I discovered it, but I remember getting huge samosas there for $1 a piece (this was over a decade ago) and I loved them. Back then they were a small shop selling mostly groceries with some snacks like samosas and pakoras, and Indian sweets. Now they have moved to Barrhaven and their foods now include curries and biryani. I picked up a dozen samosas to share with my parents. I got 6 beef and 6 chicken. They were $1.75 apiece (vegetarian ones are $0.95 each). They are significantly smaller than they were over a decade ago at the Chinatown location, but still a decent size. They tasted good, but not quite as wow as I remembered, but we always gaze at the past through rose tinted glasses ;) They are still legit samosas and very good. The store is in a strip mall. Lots of free parking.

On Saturdays and Sundays, they have homemade Turkish food and the last time I went on a Sunday, they had this live Turkish Streetfood station for Cigkofte setup. (Its apparently really popular in Turkey!) The store also has a meat section with fresh lamb and goat. The butcher cuts it up however you want it and they are really helpful when it comes to making smaller orders etc. Now, things may get lost in translation here so just use pictures or be really descriptive. The last thing I gotta say is that you MUST MUST MUST MUST try their chocolate croissants. Just call before you go if this is what you crave because they get sold out FAST! Their Saturday and Sunday bakery offerings are very different from weekdays so its always a treasure hunt in the bakery section. Go get your Turkey on Kanata / Stittsville!

But you would have to admit that they are sooo nice when they're fresh! I buy spices and a variety of nuts for cooking and baking, and I prefer to buy them in bulk when you can smell how fresh they are, instead of being mass produced, and sold at the grocery store. Who knows how long they have been packaged? The staff at the Bulk Barns I've been to are all knowledgeable and friendly. Bulk Barn has recently introduced a greener way to shop: you bring in your own jars (or you can purchase some here), go to the cash and get it / them weighed, then go fill up your jars with whatever you need. They take the weight of the jar off at the cash. BB also sells reusable cotton bags (ok - with their logo on it, but I use mine all the time, for lunch or whatever). And they give coupons on a monthly basis, to give $10 off for purchases over $30. I will definitely be back.

I've had some apple pastries (several years ago) and more recently I tried one of their cakes, which are sold by weight. The apple pastries ($2 each at the time) were ok, but I found them a bit dry. The cake ($9.30 for a fairly small piece) was delicious, but I found it pricey. However, it had many layers and I tasted a lot of hazelnuts in it, so with the cost of things these days, prices are what they are. The cake was really moist and rich, but not too sweet, which I appreciated. Service was courteous. It's in a strip mall and there free parking in the shared strip mall parking lot.

There is a seafood room with fresh lobsters, fish etc. There is a fresh food area where food goes by weight. I've done this x 2. Good but very expensive. Lots of packaged noodles which I love. So many things I've purchased on a whim. IE soup dumplings and frozen chive pancakes. Yum. Staff upon check out and in aisles... No. Not great but it won't stop me from coming.. and... 4 easy stars.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Asian grocery store at Grant…read moreCrossing. Big, bright and clean. Mostly items from China but they have items from other countries too. The Long Version: My parents first introduced me to Green Fresh when they only had one location (the OG that was on Selkirk, that has since closed down). It was dingy and run down, but had lots of Asian ingredients that they were looking for. And it was the closest Asian grocery store to where they lived. They were thrilled when it moved to McArthur and had a total facelift, it was new, bright and clean. Green Fresh then opened a second location in Nepean on Merivale, closer to my neck of the woods. Then in January 2025, they opened this third location in Kanata/Stittsville. It's in the Grant Crossing, where the Bed, Bath and Beyond used to be (next to the Value Village). This newest location is very similar to the Nepean location. It even has the same bubble tea vendor inside (Y-Not Go For Tea). Which is a bit funny because the first Y-Not Go For Tea location is inside the Hunt Club T&T and T&T and Green Fresh are competitors! The Vanier Green Fresh has a different bubble tea vendor though: World Tea House. I visited this Kanata/Stittsville location shortly after opening, so maybe they don't have all their stuff together yet because although they have a section labelled "Bakery" they didn't have any baked goods :( However, they do have a prepared food section. It's self-serve and you pay by the weight ($2.29 per 100g). They also have a counter where they make Jianbing, Chinese crepes. There was a huge line up for these when I went, so they are definitely popular. They have lots of items, including snacks (my favourite aisles), lol. Most of the products are from China, but they have items from other countries too. They had Kracie DIY gummy kits imported from Japan. And they were only $4.99. The west end is now flush with Asian grocery stores (T&T, Kowloon, now Green Fresh, and soon Sunny Food Mart) compared to the east end (to my parents' chagrin). I'd say the prices here are the lowest generally speaking. However, the prepared foods did not look as appetizing to me as at the other Asian grocery stores. Free parking in the plaza parking lot. I was greeted by a super nice employee at the store who could have been the owner. It's an Eastern European focused market and deli and they have some great items. A lot of them are low on preservatives and when possible, sourced from somewhere in Canada. There are a lot of meats, fish, frozen food items and caviar. They have a lot of pre packaged snacks and drinks that come from overseas. They even have a local baker who provides them with sour dough daily! I heard they sell out every morning so get their early if you want some really fresh sour dough. I ended up leaving with some frozen perogies made from Montreal and some European Fanta. I will come back for some other items in the future

I bought some spicy spices of course, some perogies, tomato paste, high end dried pasta.
