The farmhouse itself is lovely, very warm, clean and comfortable and Charmaine and Chris couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly and breakfast was fresh and plentiful. I would love an excuse to stay there again. The only thing I would say to anyone planning to stay here is that you probably need to use a GPS unit to find it: it is right at the end of a very twisting single-track road but my old unit found it from the postcode without any problem.

I arrived late in the evening due to a long journey and it was no bother for the landlady who was 110% welcoming and friendly. She is a bubbly lady who loves a chat. Her husband seems to run the dairy farm and he is a pleasant and friendly man too. I was made to feel totally at home. The accommodation is a converted barn and the rooms are wonderful and olde worldy. The breakfast was a total delight. I couldn't rate this place highly enough.

Contemporary Regency decor for a sense of grandeur, Molton Brown amenities, heated towel racks, Hypnos luxury bedding, the best Eggs Benedict we had on our trip, organic cereals, a wide selection of premium Tiptree jams and curds, homemade fruit compote, perfectly fried bacon and sausages, gorgeous presentation, full French presses of excellent coffee, attentive service, organic peanut butter, different yogurts, plenty of fruit ... this place was a dream. Every square inch was spotless, and a private car park made it worth the safe and scenic 5-minute downhill walk to the town center. The hospitality was friendly, welcoming, personable, yet also professional. Huzzy and I agreed: we would come back to Bath just to stay here! When we arrived at the 139 in Bath, we were shown to the waiting room and served a nice beverage. The host knew exactly who we were and addressed us by name. We felt welcomed. The room was comfortable and beautiful- very classic in look. We had a great sleep on the bed, like I mentioned- comfortable room! Squeamish skip this paragraph... When I arrived in Bath I was deep into my trip and short on socks. The sock bag in my suitcase had reached critical mass and was going to be a new kind of 'Dirty Bomb'. When asked if the 139 had a washer and dryer, they said of course. They braved the bag. I got my socks back the next morning, folded. Thanks! Breakfast the next morning was wonderful- fresh eggs, great bacon, crunchy and chewy bread (ok so I'm not a food writer). Lots more options than a traditional eggs and bacon breakfast were available. Thanks 139 for a wonderful experience. It's been a couple years since we stayed, but the memory is fresh in my mind.

The made to order breakfast was incredible with awesome local and daily specials. Our room was in the Jane Austin wing and provided a great view up above the courtyard outside. The accommodations are incredibly tasteful. It's a good mix of antiques and contemporary luxury, with top notch bedding and beautiful, completely remodeled bathrooms. The breakfast room is charming and the breakfast was our best breakfast in England! The fresh homemade jam is not to be missed! The staff was excellent and very accommodating, even offering breakfast a half hour early one morning so we could eat before our early departure.

Had I been in the company of a desireable man, I may have stayed for the whole weekend, but this is sadly a short stopover in a busy week. It is heaven though. My host is Judith who owns this Georgian pile, and who is exuberant, effervecent and passionate about the place. Breakfast is served in the basement kitchen and cooked on the Aga, the rooms are few but utterly individual, and in the summer the patio with a view would be a relaxing place of an evening. Not so inviting in December. Not expensive, great location and a fascinating home. I will be back if possible!
