This place is very nice aesthetically and the service is good. BUT the food is below average. We had about 5 rolls of sushi. We had 3 special rolls and 2 regular rolls. You could not taste the fish at all. Wasabi had no kick to it. Everything was bland. I tried really hard to like this place because the reviews were good but this place is sooooo overrated. My husband and I love sushi and try different places in the nova area all the time. I think our ranking stands that sweet ginger restaurant in Vienna va is still the best. Love this place! Besides the fact that it's one of the few good sushi places I in the area (and I love sushi!), I just really like Peter. Great owner! NICE guy who cares about his customers and serves up a quality product at a fair price. I love almost all the rolls and typically order hand rolls with cucumber added (they will customize upon request). I also order salmon to or sushi topped with quail egg. YUM! He has almost everything and says he would carry more exotic stuff like sea urchin if more people asked for it (like me!). Very impressed by the service and serving sizes presented by the restaurant. The atmosphere is very stylish too. I'm used to going to a Japanese restaurants and buying a bento box that is all rice and paltry portions of the other items. The included sushi roll (California or salmon) was actually an entire roll instead of two pieces, some gyoza, a really good ginger green bean side, and of course salad and miso. Sushi was fresh and delicious. I ordered the teriyaki salmon bento box and did not care for it. My mom ordered the beef bento box. The beef was thin pieces wrapped around green onions. If I could rate this place a negative rating I would. I was invited to a BIRTHDAY celebration(called in advance for reservation)... My party was seated 30 mins after reservation time. In the time frame of two hours, our waitress never came to our table after bringing out the drinks initially. So yes, no refills, is everything okay, do you need anything. As my table got a bit agitated we asked how much longer for the food bc at this time we've been seated for a hour & a half. Then food slowly started to come out individually to the point some of my guest were done eating & others hadn't even received their food. I asked my server to speak with a manager (just to give some feedback). I was told that she was busy. I continued to wait for our food to come out to the point I no longer wanted their service. I politely walked to my server at the bar & asked if the young lady beside her was the manager, I was blatantly ignored. I asked again & with a attitude she answered she's busy. I stated she should make time for her guest otherwise I will be walking out. One of my guest still hadn't gotten their food, which they never realized because my waitress stated "everyone has their food" kind of like "what's the problem now". ALL IN ALL, HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! First of all, you can not compare a sushi restaurant in Montclair to high end sushi restaurants in the city. It's good enough to curve a sushi craving, but I wouldn't really go out of my way. Food is barely authentic, lots of your normal fried rice, lo mein, dumplings etc etc. Sushi is better than most in the area, to include their nigiri, sashimi, and rolls. Service is always great. Soooo good! Food was amazing! With the Yelp promo, I also got a Kani Salad which was delicious times 10! Amazing prices. I thought deducting a star for the lighting. If you was lucky to get a booth, you have direct pendant lighting to make such tasks as reading the dark menu easy. But we had to sit at a table which does not have direct lighting so it was quite dark to say the least. But, the hottest, the server (who definitely finding it hard to be comfortable interacting to people, but he was young so he will learn), and who I assume is the Manager or Owner, were amazing. Fo continues to improve. The A/C has been upgraded and the liquor license was approved. They have a great selection of sake and the more I try their menu, the more I'm impressed. My current favorite is the tempura sweet potato roll. The Maki A and Maki B plates are fantastic. I'm starting to expand beyond their great rolls and trying some of the other menu items. This is for our most recent visit. Dinner date with a friend, ordered sushi, shrimp tempura, avocado salmon roll, and I ordered a eel roll though upon eating I saw no eel , figured the waitress misheard me and gave a a different roll. My friend ordered pad Thai and was very disappointed, as she said it tasted as if ketchup was thrown into the sauce. I ordered beef ramen with spicy miso, I had no problem with it other than I couldn't finish it all. Shrimp tempura was very good and crispy but other rolls with avocado were more on the mushy brown side so it wasn't as good. Our previous was really good sushi and ramen was delicious. I may go back but maybe earlier in the day. Another complaint is when paying waitress passed us like 3-4 times and even though we said to split bill she did not. Not major honestly just minor inconvenience. Also I found the alcoholic drinks to be overpriced and honestly not worth it. For thirteen dollars a got a tiny drink barely any liquor. read more

Full disclosure, I've only eaten at Fo Bistro twice, & although it isn't my restaurant of choice, my family & friends have really enjoyed their meals. Then again, they go for the sushi & sashimi; neither of which are really my jam. My most recent meal, & most disappointing, was the Pad Thai. The menu lists the ingredients as your choice of either Vegetable, Chicken, Beef, or Shrimp with Thin Rice Noodles, Tofu, Egg, Bean Sprouts, Scallions, Peanuts, & "Authentic Pad Thai Sauce." I chose the beef. It was sparse, as well as bland, but that's not the reason I'm most disappointed. Both the tofu & scallions were entirely missing, & the real kicker was that somebody felt that whole-leaf cilantro (NOT listed as an ingredient, btw) would be a nice addition to the dish. Nope. I realize I'm in the minority on this one, but cilantro does more than just taste terrible. It gives me an upset stomach, & I must have downed two of them in the first bite. It was dark, & I didn't think twice about it as I thought they were scallions. Had cilantro been listed in the description, I would have either asked it to be omitted, or I would have ordered something different. The other two dishes I've tried are the Beef Negamaki & Yaki Soba. I just remember them being somewhat bland, as well, but I wouldn't say either of those dishes were awful. I have only ordered takeout a couple of times. Here's my take on the food received. Nigiri sushi is undersized and overpriced. The sashimi was fresh and delicious, but come on, size matters. Maki sushi were smaller too. The California roll did not have avocado in it because they ran out. They told me this upon checkout. What the what? That's info I need before not after. The pickled ginger is normal colored, not that unnatural pink. The wasabi had a kick to it. I almost burnt my nostril hairs off with it. We ordered pad Thai noodles. It was not that good. I have eaten here many times in the past few years when I use to live in Stonebridge. So when I went car shopping today I remembered how good it was and called to place my order. The lady gives me the total for $117 and some change... then demands that I give her my card information over the phone. Absolutely not. This had never happened before so I told her it was a security risk and asked why did I need to give my card information over the phone versus swiping my card in person. So my boyfriend and I decided to go to a different (AT FIRST) sushi place near Wegmans on a Friday. There was a line out the door and an angry family stormed out and told us to go eat at Fo Bistro in Dumfries because they just had a bad time. We took it as a sign took their advice. The place was beautifully decorated, the wonderful employees were ALL super nice people, and the sushi was amazing. They weren't too busy for a Friday night and didn't rush us to leave after we were done. (Had to finish our Sake.) The prices are good and the variety is vast. I can't believe I didn't know about this place until now. You guys should do a little bit of marketing for your brand because you're amazing at what you do!
