I usually don't leave reviews like this but and my experience today I have to share. I show up to my appointment and tell the barber the hair cut id like (high n tight). 25 minutes in the chair the barber hardly scratched the surface of the cut. The cut proceeded. This haircut took 50 minutes. A high n tight takes from past experience 20 minutes. There's nothing "high" about this 50 minute hair cut. I would have asked for it to be corrected but I had already been sitting in the chair for an hour. For a high n tight. I don't know the name of the barber. See photos attached. Floyd's 99 Barbershop - Barbers Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

Stopped in for a shape-up and was told someone would be right with me. After finishing up with the kid in his chair, the barber disappeared to the back of the store. 20 minute later, additional staff join the barber in the back of the store. The other staff eventually start to make their way back to the front, with the barber remaining in the back. The friendly associate who checked me in apologized for the delay and stated, "he'll be right with you". Another 15 minutes go by and aim still waiting. I then hear staff whispering about, "them" back there arguing. I guess the associate noticed me getting antsy, she again reassured that I hadn't been forgotten and stated, "he will be right out". Being in desperate need of a shape up, I waited an additional 15 minutes. After nearly an hour wait, I finally had enough and left. Lesson learned! I will never again miss an appointment with my barber!! read more

Not impressive. I reserved an appointment on a Saturday morning, and still had a 20 minute wait. The barbershop itself is filled with posters of music stars and other celebrity memorabilia tacked on the walls, and loud music piped into the place as if the management is pumping you up for your hair cut. I perceived that they are trying to draw in "cool, hipster types"- young professionals with lots of disposable income, as the prices reflect that (more on that later). So, I was finally called on and greeted by what appeared to be a teenager- hmmmm, how much experience do you have? She sat me down and I was instantly told my cut would be $30 (they told me $24 on the phone). I inquired why, and was told my hair is "mid-length". My hair wasn't even touching my collar; I'd hate to see what is considered "long"- hair that goes beyond the collar? The funny thing is, I'm not into buzz cuts- I like it short, but not Bruce Willis short. So, getting up and raising a fit was not something I intended to do when coming here, so I agreed on the price rise, even though I could have only wanted a 1/4" of hair cut off (the teenager didn't ask me how much I wanted off to begin with). She tied an apron on me, finally asked me what "style" I wanted, and proceeded to cut. In all honesty, the cut wasn't bad. I've had worse, but I've also had much better, at prices below $20. To her credit, she took her time, asked at one point if I liked it, and I told her (again) to layer it more (I think she wasn't skilled at layering hair), and it finally came out at a 5/10. Then I got the massage (by a machine), and my bill. My final analysis- a lot of show, ok performance, high prices. When I went to pay, the big man at the counter was hawking "product" (is that cool slang for shampoo, conditioner, and hair gel?). I have a message for Floyd's 99- you would impress your customers a lot more if you did away with the glitter and bling talk and focus on experienced barbers and straight talk. Just wanted to give a shout-out to Kemet, who gave me my first haircut after COVID started. She took a mid-length mess and made it into a fantastic short cut--somewhere between a pixie and a bob. Plus she is a beautiful human. I had not been here before. All the staff seemed friendly, place was clean, it was nice to see each person greeted as they entered the store. Whoever I saw must be a beginner. Hair cut looks like I did it myself with a buzzer. I asked the girl if it was even, she said yes. When I get home it's clearly not even. Zero blend from top to sides, just lumped together differently on both sides. Same story with the back of my head. Asked for a straight line up, not straight. Went there yesterday and had a great stylist - very agreeable and did a nice job. It's been a few months since my last cut and this one should last a few more. Very comfortable with the safety procedures - she was wearing two masks, took the temperature, the whole 9 yards. Minimal wait time, great conversation, a small back massage, a shampoo + good music made my first ever trip to Floyd's 99 Barbershop a memorable one. And oh, did I mention that I got a pretty good hair cut to boot? Located within a small mall of stores that has a 5 Guys franchise and next to Brewer's Hill, I had never heard of Floyd's. I just needed a hair cut prior to heading out of Baltimore at the time, and Floyd's was a welcome stop as a walk-in. My stylist (Tiffany from Knoxville) was superb, and the prices were reasonable. Although this barbershop is a franchise chain, Floyd's gives you a pretty good service for the $$$. I'll certainly return. read more

Kara!!!! I have literally never loved my hair more than I do after she did it. I went from brunette to red and she did an AMAZING job. Been to this location 2 times before this visit. I like coming to a real Barber for a high and tight with a face shave. It is pricey, at $28 for the cut and another $28 for the shave. The place has always been clean, and you always greeted by a smile and checked in. My barber this time was Hannah. She did well with the haircut, she was polite and very thorough. However, the shave was not so good. She missed most of my neck and I had quite a bit of stubble under my nose and on my upper lip. Was the razor dull or????? I had to shave again at the house, kind of ruined the whole point really. So 5 stars for the haircut, but only 1 star for the shave. It will be a while before I go back. read more

Overall all poor experience. I didn't feel I was listened to or welcome. Even with pictures my haircut was drastically different than what I wanted. On the way home I discovered my ear was covered with conditioner from the wash that I got BEFORE the cut. I have given this Floyd's a couple tries to get it right with different stylists but this was the last straw and my last cut at any location. They also changed the price of my haircut after arriving without letting me know. I have always gotten the Floyd cut for $29 but when my bill was presented it was $38 for the mid length cut?? So far, it is like almost every other haircut place in Baltimore... a coin flip. On a good day with the right person in the right mood, they do a good job for the cost. I'm extremely particular when it comes to getting my haircut. So after deciding that the hour long commute to my old barber in the DC area wasn't sustainable, I went on a mission to try to find a replacement. After trying out multiple barbers/salons within a 25 mile radius of my house, I found that Floyd's Canton was hands-down the best in the area. From the ambiance to the services, I think that this location has it all. From a technical perspective, I have yet to receive a bad haircut (and I've been going there for multiple years). From a cost perspective, I feel as if the services at this location are competitively priced. I've received better haircuts here than I have at other places, where I've paid close to double the price. What can make or break a haircut experience are the people & environment. This is one of Floyd's greatest strengths. All of the employees are really upbeat and enjoyable to be around, and I've had some great conversations with multiple hairstylists. Earlier this year I got married, and leading up to the most important day of my life there was only one place I knew that I could trust to cut my hair right. I most definitely recommend this place to anyone in the Baltimore area looking for a place to get their haircut. I would suggest that you call ahead/ make a reservation to make sure that you don't end up waiting, especially on the weekend. Decent hair cut but everything costs extra and seemed half assed. It is convenient. However, the barber sped through. Maybe she was hungry. Melissa is the best. She's been doing my hair for over 3 years and I've followed her around to multiple salons. I love that she works with me on my color, she makes suggestions on what she thinks will look great but I'm never afraid to interject my opinion. I've never once left disliking my hair, she always nails it. I also looooove when she introduced me to glazes, because I can come in more often and get a refresher on my color that actually strengthens my hair! Couldn't recommend her more!! read more

I was due for a trim and went here after having a family friend cut my hair for the past decade. I wasn't sure how to describe what I normally get so I just asked the barber to trim my hair up a little bit and make it look a little cleaner. She didn't overly chit chat too much and double checked that the length that she was going for was okay with me due to my own inability to decide what I wanted! No complaints from me. Hair turned out alright. (Only reason for 4/5 is because I got such a basic trim. Prices could be a tad lower but next time I to back I'm going to ask for something a little more in depth - will update) read more

I've been to this location three times. I've left this location with a decent hair cut exactly one time. I've been forced to wear a hat two times. I've asked for the same haircut for the last ten years. Pretty simple request, a number one fade on the side and a quarter inch off the top. The first time, the barber tried "lining me up," which I didn't ask for. What did "lining me up" mean? She continued to shave back my hairline until I was missing an inch of hair on either side of my temples. It was the worst haircut that I'd ever been forced to pay money for. I wanted to give them another shot. There's a bunch of different barbers there. I figured I'd just avoid the lady who wanted to line me up. My second trip resulted in a decent haircut. Nothing special, but I left happy. So I had to drop my girlfriend off at Target and needed a haircut again. I figured I'd swing by Floyd's. They seemed to redeem themselves with the second cut. I go in, same request, one fade on the side and a quarter inch off top. I wonder why the barber keeps trimming higher and higher. I end up with about a third of the top of my hair with a quarter inch. Only if I comb over the other half of my hair does it pass as normal looking. I'm steps away from just shaving all my head to a quarter inch to even everything out and start over. I'm so unsatisfied. This is my first one star review. I have almost three inches of hair on the top of my head that immediately drops to barely enough to grab. Ridiculous. read more

Worst Experience: I went to this shop just for a trim. I have almost an inch longer than shoulder length fine/thin hair. I went there after almost 2 years of first experience. I usually go to other (including Ulta, Brocatos). I always thought the others were expansive and I did not want to spend too much money only for a half an inch trim. To my shocking surprise, I was asked to pay $55.00, just for a trim!!! No shampooing, no hair drying/styling! I am really pissed off and no matter what, won't go to them. I do not mind paying for the good services not for ...just enough. I tried to make sure if I was being charged the right amount but the girl on front dest seemed quite rude and cold. I would try not to go there again! That is my honest opinion. It may be good for a guy's cut but for ladies, I will suggest using other services if you have to pay that much. I've never written a review on Yelp but felt I needed to share my poor experience. I recently moved to the area and decided to check out Floyd's. I was pleased that the wait was minimal, but sadly that was the only pleasing part of the visit. Christy (or Cassie) cut my hair and seemed understand of my specifications and confident about the cut. She didn't engage me in conversation and I am fine with that. Sometimes I'd rather the stylist focus on my haircut than making conversation. She removes the cape and proceeds to tell me that I'm "all set" to which I reacted extremely confused. My cut resembled Forrest Gump's hairstyle, with no attempt to fade the two differing lengths on the side. I explained to Christy (or Cassie) that the sides needed to be blended and she insisted that she didn't notice my concern and assured me that "it's short near the ears and long at the crown, so it's faded". I persisted and she attempted to blend further but this resulted in it becoming a poorly faded high & tight military cut. She then said that because my hair is dark that the fade wouldn't appear as gradual. I eventually accepted it for what it was and went home to fix it myself. Long story short, I wasted $24 on a terrible haircut. Even more frustrating is the fact that she did not understand my concern about the fading or properly correct the issue. Instead she made excuses. I am paying for a service that should be superior to what I could do at home with my own clippers. Perhaps there are other excellent barbers at this location (or the others) but I will not take any more chances nor will I be wasting any more money at that place. read more

This place is garbage. I've had my haircut messed up three different times by two different people. First time my sideburns were uneven so they had to get cut really high to be fixed. Another time they FORGOT to trim my sideburns but did the rest of my head. Most recent time yet again my sideburns were uneven so they had to get cut too high again. Based on a recommendation, I took my boyfriend here today for a cut with Sheila. First off, as someone waiting, I was very happy for a few reasons: 1) A huge wall covered with music posters. I could have looked at it for hours. It was entertaining to see Springsteen next to Brittany Spears next to Bob Marley next to Pink Floyd, etc. It was just something nice to look at rather than a stupid game on TV. 2) Good magazines 3) Free Dum Dums 4) A few blocks from the water (a nice play to sit, read, and wait) On the downside, the music is absolutely blaring (i prefer more of a relaxed spa atmosphere for my own styling) and it was freezing in there. Good thing I had so much to keep me entertained because his cut took over an hour (I don't even think mine takes that long), but then again, he does have some long hair. As for the actual haircut, it was a bit short for his taste, but he was very pleased with Sheila and her technique. He kept telling me how she pulled out each curl and treated it with care. He is telling me to write that Sheila was "great and really friendly but not so in your face." His hair looked really good afterwards, so I'll have to call and find out what she put it in it. All he could tell me was "cream." They seem to use a lot of the Paul Mitchell tea tree line. He was happy, so I think we'll be back. We had a free coupon, but the prices are very reasonable and we were able to get an appointment pretty much right away. read more

Dear Floyds, when your business confirms appointments via both email and text days in advance of an appointment (a practice I find most annoying), when you call me to tell me I am late for my appointment, when I was actually opening the door your establishment (and right on time), then I expect to be seated in a barber's chair within a few minutes of arriving. That is not what happened today. After checking in, I sat for 35 minutes waiting. No one came over to apologize. No one asked if I wanted a water or anything. No one updated me on when my stylist would be ready for me. Only after I had walked out - five minutes after I walked out - you then call my phone to say my stylist was still finishing her previous appointment. It would be a few more minutes. Vicky, when you had your own shop in Federal Hill, I patronized you regularly and exclusively. I always tipped - well, and in cash. Since joining Floyd's in Canton, even though the location is cross town and costs $8 in tolls, I still came to you. No more. No more Floyd's 99. read more

Floyd's is now in a couple places around Baltimore so I thought I'd give it a try. I enjoyed my first couples cuts. You get a free shampoo if it is your first visit to Floyd's. My haircut is simple. They do a decent job. I also enjoy the brief back massage, which you get on all visits. Also nice is the ability to get on the wait list by calling in, and then walking over. I would recommend at least doing that on busy days. The only downside is that the cut is on the pricey side, especially since my cut is very straight forward. Still, Floyd's is now my go to for haircuts. read more

I would never recommend this place to anyone. I went there today for the first and last time. I explained to the barber how I wanted my haircut and was totally disappointed with the outcome. Left the place with a wet head and once it dried noticed alot of hair not cut and out of proportion. Never again and the price was outrageous. read more
