I called the store and the owner picked up. The owner, who is Shirley, was very rude. After rethinking our conversation we had, i felt like it was very unprofessional. I called asking if they were hiring for a beginner florist, where Shirley then asked if i had experience. As a beginner, I have no experience and stretched the fact that no one else is hiring with no experience and it's been really difficult and i would really like to get into the industry. Shirley started to laugh and questioned my age, when I told her i was 21 she then laughed more and said I sounded 16. Yes i might sound unknowledgeable, but it's because I am a beginner in the industry. She also asked on the basis of what I am doing with my life and I explained to her I am in college and my previous work history's.. As the conversation continued Shirley explains why no one wants to hire a beginner florist and proceeds to tell me if i want to work, it would have to be for free. That's the only way I'll gain experience at her store. A few minutes after we get off the phone, I became optimistic and was like whatever I can work for free and suck it up, if that's what it takes... So i call back. Shirley answers and I told her i'm willing to work for free and she begans laughing at me, again. I didn't understand what was so funny, maybe my ambition? lol, anyways she goes to say that she's way to busy for that right now and to call her back after the holiday. I then ask for her name and if she was the owner where she became very sarcastic saying "honey the store owns me" and i said oh okay and she hung the phone up. I understand the florist industry is very difficult to get into and I have been advised to look into smaller shops to get started, which i thought this would be a good store. But being treated like this over the phone was humiliating. Very disrespectful and puts a negative stamina on the industry. Shirley, you surely know how to un-motivate someone. read more

I used Flowers West for the two most significant occasions of my life, my mother's and then, my father's funeral. It may sound strange to say that in those difficult days I found "comfort" in something as seemingly insignificant as flowers, but I did. The owner of this shop (I'm sorry I have forgotten her name) made us such magnificent arrangements that they were breathtaking. I felt she respected the importance of those two days and made us something we were be proud to display during the ceremonies. She brought such beauty and class to such a solemn occasion, you couldn't help but admire them. I felt she represented the love I have for my parents with those flowers. And when life seems to be going so wrong, it was comforting that the women at Flowers West made at least a part of it "go right." I remember taking home the arrangements and the vase wreath of my father's. They lasted, looking new a good week later when I locked up the house and took my flight back to the west coast. At the time, I thought it was almost magical, that they were keeping themselves fresh long enough to comfort me til it came time to leave. And even then, they were still lovely enough to pass on to a neighbor. Perhaps the most amazing thing was the cost. Her prices were so reasonable i was left wondering how she managed to afford making such gorgeous arrangements. In fact, when I had an out of state memorial service for my father a few months later, I sent another florist photos of the arrangements Flowers West had made for us, hoping we could recreate the beauty for the event. They charged me more than twice the price and made arrangements half the size and a fraction as lovely. Though this was two years ago now, I can't imagine anyone that has such talent and puts so much care into her work would be creating anything less than spectacular still. I just recommended this shop for my friends wedding and when I realized I never gave the florist the thanks she was due, I sought out Yelp to leave a review. And the quality was better by far. I recently used them again. I called in an order and basically let them do what they wanted. Again, I felt I got an amazing deal.
