I usually don't leave bad reviews, but when it comes to businesses dealing with mental health, I…read morefeel this is important. I saw one of Capitol City's psychiatrists, Dr. Esther Elphick, in March for some extreme depression related issues I had been having, and left crying due to how I was treated. She belittled me, made me feel stupid, and left me with a medication I didn't even know what was for. When I would ask her to clarify a question, she would simply repeat the question louder and with aggression, instead of explaining what she meant. She implied that my therapist from back home who I zoom call while studying during the year at FSU (who I have been seeing for 8 years and has helped me so much) has no idea what she's doing and that I should switch to a therapist at this establishment. At the end of the appointment, she listed off literally just the names of four medications and asked which one I wanted to take. I was so confused- I don't know what medications are for based off of just the name! I asked so many questions but she literally could not explain what the medications helped with. I scheduled a follow-up in April, and was terrified to go back. I have literally never dreaded anything more. I scheduled the appointment for April 17th at 1PM, but unfortunately there was a school shooting so I was unable to leave campus to get there. I called them, told them the situation, and they still charged me with a no-show fee. There was literally a school shooting. It's insane that I'm writing this right now. I started to believe that maybe psychiatrists were meant to be mean and aggressive, and that's how they single out the people who are simply just looking to get prescribed adderall or something. I ended up going to a different psychiatrist in my hometown, and she was amazing. She was so kind, made me feel comfortable, and was extremely empathetic. She went on maternity leave so they switched me to a different psychiatrist at their location who was just as amazing. This made me realize a psychiatrist like the one I saw at Capitol City Psychiatry is not what a psychiatrist should be. This experience did not help my mental health at all, it simply gave me more anxiety and made me feel even more hopeless.

I did not read these yelp reviews until after scheduling my appointment, when I saw them I was…read morehesitant but going to give it a try because the negative reviews were all from 2 years ago or more. My experience with their front office service has been great. When I called the first time they picked up and answered my questions, sent me the interest forms right away, I filled them out and received a call from them after a few business days. And then I didn't call them back for a few days (because life got busy) and they followed up with me AGAIN with a phone call. I got my appointment scheduled, they sent me the info for their patient portal right away, and called the morning of my appointment as a courtesy reminder. All the people who left voicemails or spoke to me over the phone were very kind and helpful. It seems like whatever front office issues they were having a few years ago is no longer an issue, at least not from my experience. As for the providers, I've only met with Dr. Marie Myrick once so far but I it was a great experience. She is kind and an attentive listener. She had me call and schedule an evaluation right there in our appointment, which as we had just finished discussing my memory and procrastination issues, was a level of accountability and forward-thinking I appreciate from a mental health provider.

As others have said, they never answer the phone or return calls…read more When you do get ahold of a person, they are always rude, nonchalant and dismissive. In the past two months, I've called around 35 times to schedule appointments or request refills and I've received a call back exactly twice, days and weeks after the fact. When I inquired about the phone situation, I was talked over and both individuals I spoke to refused to actually acknowledge that phones were not being answered. They kept repeating "Well I'm on the phone now. How can I help you?" instead addressing my very valid concerns. It's not worth the time or the frustration. Find a practice that actually cares about its customers. I've filed a complaint with CHP and I've cut ties with the practice. If I could give zero stars, I would.
