You probably have worked this out by now, but I simply love these old style railway stations, if…read moreonly because they have a feel about them that reminds me of the past, and the days when trains weren't running on electricity. This is the station that you jump off at if you want to go to the zoo, but there are also other things around, such as parkland, and a golf course. Okay, not public facilities are at the station, but it is still pretty cool.

In a way, I have given this station more credit than it is due in the past, namely because of the…read morereally nice buildings, and that it has been quite convenient to me as well. However, it is one of those stations that I would consider a useless station, namely because it only works to basically slow down the trains along the South Morang line, and the two stations to either side are close enough to walk to. Mind you, I highly doubt that the government could get away with removing this station to speed up the trains.

In a way this is a major suburban railway station, namely because it happens to be a stop for the…read moreV/Line trains as well as a number of the suburban trains (well, actually all of the suburban trains that head along this line). It is basically a fully serviced railway station, and quite accessible as well, though I'm not entirely sure if it actually sports restrooms (a lot of them don't, and when they do it happens to be locked). Still, trains are reasonably frequent along here.

Essendon Junction does not have a lot to offer, but it does provide a train station (Craigieburn…read moreLine), tram stop (rout 59), bus depot (many routes), 7 Eleven, a couple of bars and a cafe. Essendon station has a lot of parking, but fills early. It is also close to Windy Hill, if you happen to need to go there for some reason.

I rode my bicycle along the Upfield bike path and I decided to take the train back at this…read moreun-staffed train station. It must be the ugliest railway stations in Melbourne, the freeway runs above it, casting the whole station in perpetual gloom. A couple of benches and the ticket machine are the only facilities here. The only thing reason that I stopped my bike ride here was to photograph the graffiti around the station and get the train back to Coburg.
