My husband and I were in Plainfield, Indiana after dropping out son off at college. We stayed in the Embassy Suites which offers made to order breakfast (but it really did not due to Covid.) Based on the reviews we tried this place as well as Oasis across the street. Needless to say, we did not return to Oasis and looked forward to an excellent breakfast at Flap Jacks. We went there four days in a row and would have continued to return but we had to return to California. Flap Jacks has a staff of people waiting to serve you, and food comes out within minutes from placing your order and it is delicious! You don't have to look around hoping that someone will see you to refill your coffee. The place is immaculately clean. I wish I could bring Flap Jacks home to California, but then the service and food would decline and the price three times as much. I am a jealous Californian. read more

This has become the regular breakfast spot for myself and my coworkers. Over the past few years we've tried many of the breakfast joints around, but Flap Jack Pancake House pretty well takes the cake. The food is reasonably priced and consistently tasty, and it's open bright and early for those night shift folks who get off work at 6am. The menu is pretty typical for a breakfast joint, but everything I've had tastes delicious. The aroma of fresh cooked bacon can typically be smelled from the parking lot. The waitresses are friendly and attentive. They recognize us as regulars and can pretty well pinpoint items we might want to order. I love this little place for breakfast. We go a lot after church on Sunday. This is also the same time that a lot of other people go. However, we never have to wait more than 20 minutes to be seated and the food comes up within a 10 minutes of ordering. Food-they serve breakfast and lunch. I usually always go for the breakfast option. They have everything from pancakes to omelets. Everything I have tried here has been so good. I would suggest getting the Greek omelet. It is so good and has so many good flavors in it. Pricing- the pricing is so good. Most meals are between $7-$10 per person. For what you pay, you get a lot of food. Atmosphere- it is very laid back and casual. Most people come in to have breakfast with family or catch up with old friends. Flapjacks is probably the best spot in Plainfield for breakfast. Occasionally come here after work with coworkers. It's pretty much like any other breakfast joint, except for the food. Everything I've had here has always been delicious. If you come here you have to get some bacon. I always enjoy smelling the bacon from outside when walking in to the restaurant. Breakfast is on point here, don't know about lunch never had it.The staff is always friendly and will get your food out to you quick. Ok, I tried this place out when we first moved to Plainfield ages (read: 4 years) ago. I was devastated when a place called Flap Jacks had disgusting pancakes. They were dense and grainy. We gave up on the place until this Memorial weekend. My husband and I were so hungry and just wanted something close. We decided to risk it... And I'm so glad we did! I even had some pancakes and they were GOOD! We even went back the next weekend. The service was better the first time because there was no one in there, but we didn't have bad service at any point. I pass this place every time I take US-40 to Terre Haute yet I never stopped in for breakfast or lunch. The parking lot is always packed and now I know why. Open the large menu and you'll find every variation of eggs, biscuits, sausage and bacon imaginable. But you'll also find veggie omelets, breakfast sandwiches, sweet french toast and chipped beef in gravy (which is what I had) and all of it is authentic and delicious. You CANNOT beat the price. At all. My dad and I ate here (chipped beef with gravy and hash browns for me, he had eggs with hash browns and pancakes, all incredibly large portions) all for under $15.00. How had I been passing this place up?? Flap Jacks has five locations and I will surly be back at one of them to try out their lunch menu. Great food, great service. I went to flap jacks this after noon for brunch. It has always been a local hot spot definitely on the weekends. Nothing extraordinaire, but solid decision none the less. I had the eggs with country fried steak, with hash browns. Like I said before, nothing too exciting here but "usually" decent service and decent food. Not a type of place I ache for. Seems to be consistent even time I go though. I have been here a few times through the years. I like these small chain joints, but it's a typical "small joint" feel. Worth a shot. read more

I had pancakes this last time had much more on my plate than I could handle. They have plenty of pancake "flavors." I visited the Avon location awhile back and my omelet had nice-sized feta chunks in it. Both items were good. Service is pretty quick. Not so good: I ordered strawberry pancakes, I was hoping for strawberries in the pancakes (though looking back, seems more obvious that they would be on top). They were on top, which was fine, but were in that weird strawberry gel I'm not a fan of. Some strawberries in a little sugar with their own juice would have been much better. Our server was fine at first, but after a joking comment from my friend (which I didn't find to be offensive, it was playful, so maybe she perceived it otherwise), she seemed a bit hostile. Average spots get 3 stars, but this spot gets 2 because our booth had water leaking from the ceiling. Apparently it was a known issue because the pleasant (term used very loosely) cashier acted annoyed when I brought it to her attention & she explained the leaking happens from condensation from the AC. I only brought it to her attention so they might reconsider seating other guests there so those guest won't have water dripping from the ceiling on to them, their food or their cell phone...like it did to mine. My son really wanted pancakes! We were quickly greeted. But before I could sit down was asked what I wanted to drink by host/server! What the what?! We arrived 1:15, hour and 45 minutes prior to close...and many guests came in after. Server checked on us after two bites/2 minutes to drop the check...and say "thanks, no hurry, whenever you are ready." I understand needing to do sidework and fills, but when guests can see you ignoring them to get out early...poor service. I start at 50% tip everywhere, knowing seeing a mom and kid at table pisses off server! 10% off asking for drinks before I sat down. Every 5 minutes watching server do sidework while I all needed was a box, 20% off (10 minutes). Instead off $8, server got $3, still over 20%. Food was fast and tasty! This review can be summed up in one word, cold. The pancakes, eggs and hash browns were luke warm at best. Also I said out loud "this is the worst cup of coffee I have ever had" very burnt coffee. Service was not bad and we got plenty of refills. The food is just lacking in anything really special. I could have had a fast food pancake and it would have tasted the same. Ok so I know the last review on here was a while ago so I thought I'd update.... ordered the food and was very surprised as to how FAST the food came out... well I know why , they must have all the common stuff already prepared and just sitting there. I had the western omelet and well my hashbrowns weren't cooked all the way , my pancakes were very doughy and not to mention kinda cold. My daughter had the French toast and I took a bite and was very spongy but her side of bacon was really good. I don't know if I would come back here. Flap Jack Pancake House is a nice place to come and grab some breakfast that tastes like it was made at home (in a good way). I ordered the skillet and thought it was very good. It needed a little salt, but I would rather have to add than have it be too salty. I did not really like the coffee, but everything else was good. I think what most impressed me about Flap Jacks was the service. Our coffee was always full, we were seated right away, the hostess and waitress were very friendly, and our food came out quickly. Simple plain jane restaurant, but not their food! I got the Italian skillet and pancakes with pecans. The skillet was great! The pancakes were a little thick and dense, I prefer them thinner with a nice crunch on them. Our waitress was friendly and the perfect amount of attention. A "good" breakfast is hard to find in the western-Indy suburbs, but Flap Jack's fills the void somewhat admirably. Breakfast - while I enjoy the pancakes, their "fluffiness" can be a detriment if you're not eating at an inhaling speed. The fluffiness comes from the lack of substance, thus it takes only a bit of butter and/or syrup for the pancakes to lose their consistency. You're left with "pancake mush" in short order. The sausage links are incredible. Spiced perfectly and large in size, to boot. Lunch - I've had limited experience with their lunch menu, yet enough to give it a score of "ok." Service - Up & down. I love the homey feel, great prices, generous portions, and nice wait staff. First of all, this restaurant is what it is, and you get what you should be expecting; its a mom and pop-type breakfast and lunch only diner. The inside of the restaurant is cozy, clean, roomy, and inviting. The staff are all incredibly friendly and you get personal attention even during the weekend morning rush. The food is not the most incredible, but everything tastes really good and you get plenty of food. If you're in Plainfield/Avon area, this is one of the best places to eat breakfast. Better than the Cinnamon Rooster in my opinion, with a lot more charm. I also like that its a locally owned place and not a chain, which can be hard to find out here. The prices are good, the restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly, and you're supporting a local business when you go. Even though it was Father's Day, we only waited about 10 minutes to be seated. We found the menu to be quite extensive. Food could have been a bit hotter, but it wasn't cold. We both ordered skillets with pancakes on the side. The pancakes were huge! We could have easily split our meal and been fine.
