There are a few things that are stereotypical American: NASCAR, anti-gay/pro-life rallies, gun…read moreshows, obesity, stupidity, diesel trucks and Friday night bingo. At any of the previously mentioned events, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ali G/Borat/Bruno walk in and every participant not know who they were because they don't have or watch BBC-America because they don't watch "that sissy crap." That being said, last night we went to our first Bingo experience ever. We have a friend that handles the accounting/book keeping for a series of bingo halls and she said she'd get us all set up. We grabbed the wifey's grand mother and off to bingo we headed. When we got there 1984 smacked us across the face with a smokey hand and a raspy , smoker's lung "welcome to Bingo!" I guess Watauga Road Bingo is good... I have nothing to compare it to. It is cheap, new, easy to find and there are some nice folks working there. But the game of Bingo itself ain't what you played as a kid with M&Ms and a single sheet. But, all in all, we had a good old time. (Note: Bingo is HARD.) It's a business. They are going to make money. And as a half-way intelligent college educated dude, I saw right through that. The speaker system is quiet, the announcer calls out the numbers late, there are guys walking around slinging side sale cards right behind you distracting you, and it is all very, very fast, a whirlwind of crazy-town. And to boot, every patron is smoking Marlboro Reds right in your face blurring your vision and giving you a devil of all headaches. Would I go again? Maybe. It was a bit stressful but they sling out some money there. I am sure I can win something some time. Is it the best way to experience "America" (or would it be 'Murica'?) in all its glory? Pretty darn close.

Been taking my disabled mom here for the past month or so to help put some fun back in her life…read morewhile battling cancer. Our family had decided to celebrate her birthday here and was told by one of the lady volunteers that she would get $100 dollars to play all the games. I was very adamant that it was on the 7th, which was also on a high payout night apparently, and she never once said her bday benefit wouldn't be honored that night. She instead sold us pull tabs that she said were only going to be sold that night and we're good for the night of her birthday. We ended up having 2 winners and she said to go up and get 2 free computers and to keep the tabs for when the game was played on the 7th. My moms caregiver was with us and she heard the exact same thing. Well, come the night of the 7th, our whole family goes to celebrate and the front desk ladies tell me that they won't honor her birthday payout because it's a $1000 dollar payout night and she can come back the next night instead for her $100. I also brought the winning pull tabs up from a couple weeks prior and was told those were no good and were only for the night they were sold. We didn't even know that game was even played that night because we were told it was only good for this night. The crazy thing is the lady that told us all this that night admitted to telling us that only she added a "but" to it, and the front desk said it was a miscommunication and that someone else had even brought their tabs in asking the same thing. To top it off, I bought $100 dollars worth of a horse race pull tab, James said it was the only one on the floor, but that was a lie as well, and I had the #11 horse, which didn't win, but it said it was a minimum $50 dollar payout for getting the horse period. I asked about it and of course was told it wasn't worth anything so I threw it away, but a couple of the veteran players nearby said it was still worth the $50. We also all had to play on paper cards because the free computer for a "hold" pull tab was not honored this night either. Owner is trying to say they offered to accommodate the miscommunication, but no accommodations were made whatsoever. So in conclusion, I don't think the staff are very knowledgeable or very honest about what they are trying to sell you if you are an infrequent visitor that doesn't know all the rules like the other players. My moms caregiver is taking her back up their tonight to get her $100 birthday freebies, but after that we will be visiting a different hall from now on.
