The entrance to the hostel is a little ambiguous - I missed it the first time I walked past it. You…read morehave to be buzzed in, which I thought was a little strange, and the elevator is extremely tiny (people in wheelchairs, I'm sorry but it took me a good 8 minutes to help a woman in a wheelchair in and out of this elevator). The lobby is on the third floor, and the workers are very nice and helpful. There's a kitchen that guests are free to use, and free pasta dinner is served at 8pm nightly (but this pasta dinner is literally just pasta tossed in tomato sauce). The rooms are what you'd expect in a hostel. Not amazing but it was also livable. I was in a female-only dorm, which had our own private bathroom and shower which was nice. The complaints I have are that: 1. The wifi doesn't reach the rooms so you have to be in the lobby to use it, and it's very. very spotty. 2. they use card keys but it's VERY difficult to use - i had to have my roommate open the door every time because it wouldn't unlock for me. And I know i'm not the only one with this problem because this happened to our other roommate three times throughout the night as well. 3. having to wait to be buzzed into the hostel can get pretty annoying, especially when no one answers for a while. But you get what you pay for, and the hostel got the job done - a warm place to sleep, a bathroom and shower, and wifi.

For traipsing around Frankfurt, there is no better hostel than Frankfurt Hostel. Only a three…read moreminute walk from Frankfurt's main train station at Kaiserstrasse, visitors have easy access to getting to the airport and other parts of Germany. The subway is housed below the train station and there are many bus stops out in front. I stayed here a few nights, by myself, while exploring the city. I captured a great deal on their website for a single en-suite room. My room was clean and basic with a huge futon like bed, closet, and a small TV. I used the television to listen to the music on MTV as I got ready. I remembered it was the first time I had ever heard Christina Aquilera's, "Not Myself Tonight." I watched the video in amazement. I had been living in Europe for a few months and realized I was completely out of the loop! The first night the rowdy guys next door woke me up around 3 AM laughing about their hoochie house experiences. Supposedly, they went to a whore house and one guy got stuck with a nasty chick. Aw, boys will be boys. I made a plan to come home shit faced or not at all, if I wanted to be able to sleep peacefully the next night. The bathroom had a small stall shower, medicine cabinet, and a hairdryer. Thank GOD for the dryer because I hadn't been able to fit mine in my minuscule carry-on. It also came equipped with towels, which is included in the price, unlike other hostels. The vibe of the hostel is young, laid back, and fun. They house a great selection of beers in the bar, including my fave Spaten. The bar also duties as the check-in counter. The social/eating area was large with enough room for groups, as well as smaller high tables and chairs for independents or strays like myself. There is also a hospitality area if you want to cook yourself up something to eat. Down the hall is a computer lab, if you didn't bring your laptop. It was 1 euro for an hour. Across the street is Reilly's Pub, I met quite a few fun locals. The pub has karaoke and dancing on the weekends. It was ridiculously fun! Also, below the hostel is a sex shop. I thought that was odd to have below a hostel until I was told by a local that I was staying in the midst of Frankfurt's Red Light District. Niiiiiiiice. With all the fancy upscale shops nearby you would never think that was the case. I never had any problems walking around by myself and I didn't see any "ladies of the night" wandering around. When I go back to Germany, I would have no problem chugging a Spaten and kicking back again at good ole' Frankfurt Hostel.

Every hotel/hostel is pretty much the same Check-In is at 2pm, Central Hostel is at 3pm. Damn, that's pretty late especially if your flight lands at 9am. You're welcome to sit and order something in front of the receptionist area and wait but there's nothing to do there except watch Germany news, use your laptop or eat a snack. There's a chess board if you can find a partner to play with. The other room was where I rested a bit closing my eyes after a long flight. The room has an okay five story skyline view and a Foosball table. I was in there less than 15 minutes with no one else around and was told to leave, can't rest in there. Stupid rule number one has just been explained because one of your paying guest is not allowed to rest 15 minutes because his flight landed 6 hours early than Check-In time. At least luggage was allowed to be put in a room. 5 hours later and I am back to find the cost of Check-In linen cost an extra 3 Euros, though I didn't see everyone with that purple linen which is written as every five days must be washed and 3 Euros be paid again. I dealt with two main staff: a very friendly and very hospitable/informative older German lady who spoke English well and was sweet as can be. I also dealt with a older gentleman that was very respectable and friendly host. So, staff are great! The pros of this hostel is that it is clean, pretty new fixtures, nothing run down, well kept with garbage removal and toilet paper, all other amenities void due hostel-basic catering to guest-understandable. There's a Rossman downstairs to get your hygienic supplies (in the morning or afternoon) if one didn't bring it with them. The hostel provides a card for 10 Euros (you get your money back on Check-Out) and yes you can come in anytime of the night but Check-In rules past a certain hour you must call them and deal with reception. Security with the locks and security cameras are good but not 100% from strangers coming in. There are lockers for couple Euros a night. Wifi is free but only for cell or laptop, not both, it has a strong connection. And there's a good handful of power outlets in each room as to provide each person (remember you're bunking with other people) the ability to charge their electronic devices. There are multiple clean bathrooms separating the men and women showers. Hot water is good but the shower head stays in place and can't be moved much. Again no amenities due to affordable hostile. I know you can pay to rent a hair dryer. Extra Note: No eating in rooms, bring air freshener (damn people don't believe in the clean air act of respecting other people's breathing), read the list of rules...host didn't like I had a little electrical heater in the room (of course for electrical safety reasons) - not sure how he knew. But other than a few rules, this is a nice hostel to stay in.
