Horrible experience!!!! I was HOUNDED after simply trying out a membership. When I finally signed up I told the guy I was moving in the near future and wanted to make sure I could cancel without a fee/penalty. He said absolutely, that's no problem. Now... 4 months later I try to cancel and hey are telling me I need to pay a $100 buy out fee because they waved that when i signed up. They have a ladies preferred area which is nice but I fill like they just out all the over used raggedy equipment in there for us to use. Horrible customer service. Tried to cancel tanning services because services are not available when needed. Got the round and around game from the front desk, payment center and club manager. More finger pointing than I could count. It's consumer fraud collecting money for a service that in not available, period! Beware of this gym. Though the employees are nice, the gym is always dirty, no towels not even paper towels in the bathroom. Good gym for meatheads but maybe not for women. They have a women section but it's old equipment and run down. I tried cancelling a month ago, called and they said everything was good. And that I'd get a call asking some questions (I didn't feel like explaining in detail why I canceled and the employee didn't make it sound necessary) so I missed the call and forgot about it thinking it was cancelled. A month later I'm still getting billed and I called again and they acted like I never tried to cancel! And said they call me in a few days to process it! I signed up for the Gym Pass with my insurance in November and started going to this gym. I really liked going and attended regularly, so when I switched insurance companies and lost my Gym Pass I decided to sign up with the basic membership. Then COVID got me and that was roughly 2 weeks of not going any where, then my child was exposed and that was another isolation. Now we just got hit with natural disaster storm that hit Texas pretty hard and I have decided that having a gym membership just isn't in the cards right now. I called at the first available opportunity considering we are all still dealing with the after math of Storm Uri, spoke to a manger about canceling my membership and he did so with no questions. Great thank you, I knew it would take 30 days to take effect, and was fine with being charged 3 more payments of $11.. However, I am also going to be charged the annual fee of $43 and there is nothing the manager can or will do to stop it, nor will they refund it afterwards. I basically was told "oh well sorry for your luck, have a great day". So I am going to have to pay $75 before I can end my non-contract membership. The manager could of made some changes, called corporate, or worked out something on my behave to try and assist me and did not even try. IF he would have attempted to go the extra mile and at least try, this review would of gone differently. My workout will continue now at home. read more

I submitted my cancellation according to contract via written notice. Supposedly they sent an email following up to inquire whether I had any personal training or other services. However, I never received the email and they continued to charge my account. I called and they even told me they won't cancel until I sent an email to the address provided saying I don't have personal training services. Seems like a pretty shady business practice at best. I have been a member for over three years and nothing is any better at the new location. I have not used the gym in over a year but started back three weeks ago. There is a cable on two different pieces of equipment that has been broke and is still broke. My "enhancement " comes out of my bank every year but I'm not sure where it is spent(definitely not on enhancing anything). There are treadmills that are broke and today four of the ellipticals were down. Either put someone on staff that is hands on or hire it done. Either way get it fixed and keep it fixed. Now let's move on to the "Personal Trainers" lol. Or should I call them ex-hat salespeople. When people spend their hard earned money for personal trainers they expect just that....personal. These guys get the person started on the exercise then spend the next 10 minutes looking in the mirror or looking around instead of making sure the lift is done properly or answer any questions along the way. First off I've been going to this gym for years (for lack of a closer choice) Also NOT 24 hours 7 days a week despite a big sign outside saying 24 hours misleading much?? This has got to be the worst gym out there, the physical gym is alright but not clean for instance the men's bathroom is god awful and sometimes is "flooded" and or stinking the entirety of the rest of the gym up. If you can look past the obvious unsanitary you don't have to look much further to see the people who go there long forgot any type of etiquette. There's a few people who go here and occupy multiple pieces of equipment which is just ridiculous and not possible to use multiple at one time but you will never see any employee ever say anything to them like the gym isn't big enough for that type of nonsense. Any review this place gets thats more than 1 Star is from someone who doesn't attend. The social media pictures are all from different gyms and their tv has a channel that reminds people to dress appropriate lol good one, have etiquette never seen any signs of it, don't take pictures and videos literally that exact thing happens all the time you go to workout and your in someone's video background not cool. Then you also got a horde of punk kids talking about people behind their backs making actual gym goers who are actually in good shape feel discouraged. I just wanted to take the time to tell you a little bit of how I feel about the gym now. Ever since Miss Velvet came aboard people have been coming in the door like crazy. Amongst the awesome staff and trainers we already have, she has also hired new people to make the staff and trainers complete. Miss Velvet has also got things fixed in a short time and has become part of our family. This gym has improved by bounds because of her direction. PLEASE REALIZE... all memberships are for 2 years minimum. I joined the gym letting them know I was moving in a couple months and they still signed me up for 2 years without my knowledge or consent. When I went to tell them I was moving they wouldn't let me cancel and gave me a number to call. I called the number and they wouldn't let me cancel and said I had to physically mail them a letter and they might let me out of it. The salesy girl Jessica ignored me and wouldn't help. I love the new location! It's an awesome upgrade from the previous location. More space, newer equipment, and the locker rooms are massive. That being said, I'm a little disappointed in one thing... The big sign on the building says 24 hours and it isn't 24 hours. So, here I sit on Sunday morning at 0700 and the gym doesn't open til 1000. Enough said. :/ read more

I only put one star because it wouldn't let me put zero. This place is unprofessional and the general manager could really care less if he loses your business. They will lock you into a contract that you aren't aware of using your signature (from a pin pad thinking you're signing something else) and then make you pay $100 if you decide within two years to cancel. Go spend your money at planet fitness where you don't have to wait 30 minutes to use a machine. I have already steered away 3 people from signing at this gym in one day. Joined this gym while living and working around Conroe. I relocated outside of this franchise zone and transferred my membership to another Gold's Gym. This franchise refuses to transfer my membership and is forcing me to go through a relocation cancellation, despite the fact that I am now paying for another Gold's Gym membership. This gym is so annoying the machines are always broken!! Specifically the stairmaster there are only three #1 and then two out of the three are always broken its absolutely ridiculous. It is a small gym yes but poorly managed considering how long it takes to fix equipment! I hope a 24 hour fitness comes to the Conroe area they were a little bit more expensive but at least the damn machines worked and they fixed them in a timely manner . read more

Great customer service. I love Janet (body pump and body attack). She is full of energy and always positive and encouraging. I have also received great customer service from the corporate office. Any additional charges you were probably informed of but did not pay attention to. The front desk is always helpful and friendly as well. read more

Be AWARE that this gym will charge you hidden fees. I had a gym and tanning membership and was charged up to $73 in "maintenance fees". Once you give them your bank information they turn it over to another corporation and wipe their hands of you. You won't get help with any info about your account either. I don't recall ever giving a business a 1-star but Gold's Gym worked remarkably hard to be the first. The trainer was GREAT. He was built like Tom Hardy but really paid attention to my personal efforts. Hell, at one point I saw him kinda tear up because I was trying soooooo freaking hard and progressing NO progress. The setting is September 2016 and my family has just arrived in Conroe. I sign up and begin working with a trainer within a week, health issues that I thought were fitness-related. 3 weeks later, I find out that I have Multiple Sclerosis so ain't NO gym, trainer, regime, gonna help. I bring the medical paperwork of my diagnosis AND the 2nd diagnosis of Spondylosis to Gold's Gym because its time to cancel already. Well, make a long story short... Gold's Gym refused to cancel my contract! First, they wanted more medical proof, (X-rays, MRIs, etc). I didn't give it. Second, Gold's Gym demanded the opportunity to help alleviate/relieve my health issues through training. Nope, no way I trust the important step of the rest of my life with a local gym unfamiliar with my INCURABLE autoimmune disease and degeneration of spine. Fast forward to September 2018. I'm casually checking my credit and see Gold's Gym reported me twice to the credit agencies. Once for 1-mo $30 debt, even though I cancelled within 3-weeks. Second, for the FULL year contract with fees, dues, penalties and everything, $1500! What a shame, sham and 2-years of pure taking advantage. Be careful folks, friends and haters. read more

Hi. My name is Dan. I have been a member of gold's gym since 2005. I enjoy working out here. It's a good gym that has all the basic equipment. I have seen many trainers come and other personnel come and go in 14 years for whatever reason. Lately though, the gym staff seems a good bit more friendly to members. I knew a GM here several years ago named Ronny who was attentive to members. However, there is a new GM or some kind of manager and her name is Velvet. She seems to be in the right place at the right time as she greets everyone with a smile and it does not seem fake, but very genuine. Liars, scammers, gym hours sucks on weekends. Gym is always over crowded and dirty. They will lie about being able to use other gyms outside of the Houston area. I travel all the time and specifically asked for confirmation that I could use any golds gym in Texas. I was told I could work out at any gym other than the original one in California!!'This was a lie. Management sucks and he's super rude if you try to ask questions about your contact he will be a jerk about it. All in all the gym is cheap and won't extend weekend hours, this gym and its staff does not appreciate its customers. read more

By far this is the worst gym I have ever worked out at. The staff is extremely unfriendly , with the only exception Ronnie. The staff is allowed to park in the prime up front parking spots forcing members to walk further, the a/c is either broken or just turned off, the towel dispensers are kept empty so nobody can clean off the equipment (health code violation), the childcare care area has a lice infestation so my wife has been unable to workout, there is equipment that has been broken for several months, if you don't have your card they will not let you in even though they could just look your name up, male members are allowed in the co-ed sauna without there shirts which I would think is another health code violation. If there was another viable option in Conroe this gym would be empty. read more

I have never been so disrespected by a company calling in to get more information about their gym. I simply wanted information about the military promotion that I saw on the website (Conroe Gold's does not honor the military btw) and was treated so rudely, not allowed to speak or ask questions without being interrupted, and furthermore refused me to allow to speak with the manager. If its not bad enough that gym equipment fails, its worse when it happens a second time. On two different occasions I have had carabineer clips fail on equipment in Golds gym Magnolia and Conroe The first time it caused a cut to the bridge of my nose leaving a scar. Management did acknowledge the problem but has never followed up on it. The second time this happened It left a large painful hematoma on my head. When I spoke top the manager about it he didn't even ask if I was ok nor did he act concerned at all. Although these are minor injuries It points to a far greater problem. Their equipment is dangerous from lack of maintenance and the management only cars about income , certainly not about their members well being. read more

I love this place. It has a good amount of equipment. The locker rooms are pretty clean and spacious. The restrooms are usually clean but they have terrible toilet paper. They have clean showers. There is a dry sauna, and it always works. They have a friendly staff. The only problems with this gym are overcrowding, lack of a pool, over zealous soliciting of personal training to a point where it is annoying, and problems with the Golds Gym Contract (they make you pay to quit so be sure to read the contract). But overall the gym is good. read more

Six machines currently broken and unusable two of which have been unusable for 3 months. Other equipment is often in poor condition. Specifically the rails and pulley systems on machines are not oiled and are not balanced and tight = sticky movements = unsafe and frustrating. 2/14 -- same machines still busted:( read more

I've been a Gold's gym member since 2014 and absolutely LOVE it, especially since the move to their new location. I terminated a previous gym membership in favor of Gold's, due to poor business hours and lack of equipment. As a fitness competitor, I train 5-6 days a week consistently and needed more out of a gym. The layout of Gold's and the vast selection of equipment allows me to train even during peak hours when they're the busiest. The staff and trainers are very friendly and courteous, and regular gym members are courteous as well. I also like that tanning memberships are available, which adds to my convenience. My only complaint is that paper towels need to be stocked regularly. The damp cloths they have to clean the machines with are rather unsanitary - it defeats the purpose of disinfectant spray. However, the gym and locker rooms are consistently clean. Overall, Gold's Gym in Conroe is an excellent gym at a great location. Keep up the great management. read more

It doesn't get much better than this for only $30 a month. The selection of equipment could be better but it's perfectly adequate the way it is. Adam is a wonderful result-oriented personal trainer. He's not an annoying salesman-type like some trainers can be, and he puts up with my whining. My one complaint is the enrollment process. It was kind of an inconvenience to have to sit down with the sales/membership guy and answer one million questions. The questions were pretty strange to me. Some examples, "What is something you don't like about yourself and you want to change?" And, "When is the last time you felt like a goddess?" Perhaps this tactic is generally good for sales, but I think a better approach would be to focus less on people's body image issues and more on educating them about the importance of leading active/healthy lifestyles. read more

AVOID!!!! These people lie to sucker you into a membership telling you one thing to get you to sign up then less than 7 days later change it up. The ONLY reason I joined is because they told me they had an organized, trainer led class for kids-11 year old boys specifically. The 1st and 2nd day he went was fine. When I got done listening on the 2nd day to a very poor sign up for a trainer spill from a kid that couldn't even make eye contact they had no issue with me going and getting a glass of tea. The next day we came, I didn't feel good, and was going to sit in car reading and coughing. This little fat woman (not a good look for a fitness center) came trotting out telling me I had to come sit inside with him. Excuse me? The point is to give him some "male' time, not more time with grandma. I told her I was told that he had class from 4:30-5:30 and I could do my own thing. Finally just told her cancel my membership wasn't even a week old, she said you can't cancel for a year. Advised her that Conroe is still a small town and that Montgomery County isn't all that big and that word of mouth matter, to which she said she didn't care-wasn't her job to worry about.
