I joined LA Fitness in December 2013, back when they were at the old Bally location. The current…read morelocation on Route 18 opened in summer 2014. I used to do mostly strength training and it certainly offers enough space and equipment, although during peak hours you may be waiting a while for a squat rack or bench press. There may also be a wait for the cardio machines, especially the Lateral X since there are only two. (It's a very expensive machine.) Unfortunately, I've found that it's fairly common for members to not be very courteous and not rack their weights when done using them, or put them in the wrong spot. There have been several occasions where my workout has been interrupted by me having to play Where's Waldo for a pair of dumbbells when the other pair in the same weight was taken. At least the other members don't bother me when I'm exercising or try to rush me off of a bench or machine. I used to do personal training here. I wish there were different packages offered, like 3 months or 6 months, but the only option is a 1-year contract for $200 a month where you need to pay an early termination fee of 50% of the remaining months' cost if you cancel. After the 1 year is up, it's month to month. They'll have you sign your initials a few times on an electronic pad, but insist on reading the contract. (They'll also email you a copy and you can cancel within 3 days for a full refund.) I had my personal training for over a year, with Evelyn. She is great! I've done one-on-one sessions and small group training with her. I eventually cancelled my personal training but would recommend her to anyone. For the past several months I've mainly been coming here just for the classes, which are included with the membership. Zumba is very popular and there are always at least a few men there, for anyone who thought it was just for women. I also enjoy the cycle classes. I had been going to yoga every Monday night but haven't really been going since Sal the instructor left. He also used to do cycle classes and he was so motivating! I also enjoy Sylvia's cycle classes and Stacey's Zumba classes, but I'll go to classes with various other instructors too. The hours are pretty good. Monday evenings are very crowded, so are Tuesdays, then it starts to taper off through Friday, when the place is dead. I have to leave my house quite early for the 6:45 and 7pm classes due to the traffic in the area. Careful in the women's locker room. The floors tend to be wet a lot since women don't properly dry themselves off after using the pool or the shower. I've also, on two different occasions, seen an abandoned pair of underwear on the floor. I've never used the showers or the pool at this location so I can't comment on those. They used to have a smoothie/snack bar but got rid of it a few months ago. They don't even have the vending machines anymore! How is anyone supposed to get a drink if they don't have an empty bottle they could fill at the water fountain, or what if they want to drink something else? Even though there are a few things about this LA Fitness that I don't like, I'm overall pretty happy with it. Unfortunately, I'm cancelling my membership since I'm moving. Cancelling is an easy process; just log into the website, get the cancellation form, and mail it out, preferably via certified mail. (I used an online certified mail website to save a trip to the post office.) Wish I knew that when I cancelled my personal training, since I waited for one specific employee for over half an hour just to get the cancellation form when the exact same one was available through the website. A few days after sending the form out, I got an email alert that they received my request and it specified my last day of service, and refunded me for my most recent monthly payment since I already paid for that when I signed up. I'm not sure what kinds of rates or packages are currently available but I paid $170 due upon signup (initiation fee plus first and last month of membership) and $32 monthly.

The smoothie bar is always a place! I've only seen a handful of them. This gym was clean but didn't…read morereally have much stuff as the new updated LA's.

BUT, am sure there's a pretty good reason why there's no air-conditioning in the workout studio. Oh, there are 2 ratty fans that fall apart when moved, but they only circulate hot, humid air. When staff is requested to fix this, they say there's no manager around, coming later, n that they cannot fix it nor bring it to anyone's attention to do so. Oh, and one cannot keep door open to let the air circulate. The other other door cannot b touched by anyone - sure there's a good reason for that too. For some reason, staff n team seem rather paralyzed about talking any action on this issue. I guess, until someone faints with heat exhaustion, when it'll all b miraculously fixed, one has to add this to the list of filthy floors n questionable cleanliness of bathrooms. As temperatures seem to b controlled at the main office in LA( so we've been told), maybe thermostats can b adjusted to cater to NJ Temps and time difference? The front desk lady, often times snippy, took it upon herself to wish me a good day, after I complained.

I had to move due to work and I have a very hard time finding a gym that would come even close to what Isabella Fitness has to offer. Isabella provides and amazing Foundations class that would teach you about all different Crossfit movements. I found it very important and absolutely beneficial as a first time crossfiter. They have a very personal approach to every athlete and make you feel comfortable during every workout. Before you even start CrossFit classes they will figure out your appropriate weight for every exercise and give you extra guidance during class for at least first 3 months until you feel prepared to be on your own. Plus, they keep a track of your weights for as long as you are a member (not many gyms do that). In addition, their programming is amazing. They include a variety of exercises that can be scaled down but you will feel every time that you got an awesome workout. If you want to have a CrossFit experience of your life - go to Isabella fitness. I truly wish I could come back to north Jersey to be back at that gym! In my search of a new gym I found out that it very hard to find a good CrossFit gym! Isabella fitness set a bar soooo high that I have a hard time finding a decent gym that would match at least 10-20% of what Isabella has to offer. And I went thru 4-5 gyms at this point! If you ever hesitate about joining a CrossFit gym, go to Isabella and you will never look back! And you cannot put a price tag on everything that you learn from these amazing people! Do not wait another day- just go and check out for yourself. My review cannot explain how thankful I am for going to Isabella as my first CrossFit gym. They changed my life forever!

So far so good. For those that have never been to a Y for the purpose of getting in a workout but…read morehave used traditional gyms, there are normally quite a few differences. Some good some just ok. I'll speak about that shortly. The facility itself is fairly new - 2009 I believe and overall all very clean. The staff seems to be pretty good too. I've only engaged with the front desk, some lifeguards and a hello here and there with some other staff. The one person I dealt with at the front desk (first over the phone, then in person) is fantastic - Gabby (sp?). She knows how everything works in terms of memberships, facilities, and the overall YMCA experience and is genuinely kind and willing to help, super customer service! I signed up on the spot, it's really not that expensive and I get access to 2 facilities, OB and Freehold (which has a lot more amenities) as well as a nationwide network - still don't know which centers specifically are included in that tho. It's month to month and there are no contracts or additional fees, but there is process to terminate your membership, such as requesting by a certain time of the month. The price for a family is almost the same price that I pay for myself at NYSC and once you factor in the yearly dues etc at NYSC, probably a wash. Cost aside, the Y may or may not provide you with everything you need in a gym however. The amount of free weights for instance is significantly less than you would find in a traditional gym. Machines for weight lifting are not as abundant as well but they basically have at least one of each that you may be used to. As for treadmills, elliptical and those sort of machines, I think they have a fair amount and their equipment seems to be very current and all in working condition. They actually have a cycling machine (2 of them) that I have never seen in any other gym which I became an instant fan of. This gym has a full sized pool with lifeguards and is primarily why I even looked outside of my current gym. NYSC offers a pool at the Marlboro location but I think this one blows it away, plus the Freehold Y that I now have access to has at least 3 pools, some indoor and some outdoor that I have full access to as well. There is a full gym for basketball (they have leagues you can sign up for) and 2 studios for a wide variety of classes that are all included in the cost of your monthly membership. While the NYSC in Matawan has racquetball which I am a big fan of and the Old Bridge Y does not have a court, the Freehold Y does have racquetball so despite a longer ride, I can maintain that activity as well. All in all, this is a great option for me personally, it has all of the tools I need for the type of workout and training that I am currently participating in. The price is fine and the location is close. I've been on the weekend only so far but will be attending early in the morning and after work to see what the crowd is like at all different times of the day/week. For me I give the OB YMCA a solid thumbs up!

Personal trainers can help you achieve your personal goals. Open basketball and pickleball are available in their gym for those who play. The trainers that work there are just as caring as the owners are.
